I'm getting started on fall clothes and making an 8-panel skirt with little flares at the bottom (gores?). The pattern is one I made from an old skirt and I have already made one skirt from the pattern that turned out fine. I'm using a beautiful mid-to-heavy weight wool herringbone tweed this time (I used a medium silk before).
I started zig-zag overstitching the edges of each panel (prior to assembling them), and it just doesn't sew well - the thread seems to catch, etc. I'm worried that the skirt won't hold together. I'm already planning on lining it (already made the lining), but am I doing something wrong? Is it the cheap polyester thread? Should I be using a different setting on my sewing machine? would it have been better to line each panel THEN assemble the skirt (as it is my lining is a barely-smaller version of the skirt, minus the gores).
Thank you -
