1  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Wookie Plush on: January 09, 2013 07:37:52 PM
Hi everyone!

So I absolutely LOVE making geeky plushies.  I hadn't attempted a Star Wars one yet, so I settled on a Wookie.  Here he is!

He's about 18" tall, and has an 18" arm span.  I used faux fur, polyfil, safety eyes and nose, and felt.

I have had a few people asking me how I go about making my plushes, so I made a youtube video about it while I made my wookie, too!

2  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My little Pikachu! on: November 03, 2012 12:13:49 PM
My son is going through a huge Pokemon obsession stage, and told me he wanted to be Pikachu for Halloween.  He refused to wear his costume last year, so I learned my lesson and made his costume just a hoodie because he loves to wear those at least.

His hoodie began white, and I dyed it with Rit Lemon Yellow.  The ears and tail are polar fleece!  His candy bag (pokeball bag) was made from felt. Hand and machine sewn. The last picture is of him with his sisters, they were kittens!  I got their hats on Etsy, so cute!
3  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Eevee Plush on: October 25, 2012 08:02:05 PM
My two year old is on a Pokemon kick lately, so I have been designing some Pokemon plushies for his room.  Finally finished my first one!

For size reference

And the little one with Eevee!  I think he approves.

She's made of a minky short faux fur, felt and 1" pile white faux fur.  I wire lined her legs for support and posing, and stuffed her with polyfil.  Only took two tries to get the pattern right, woo!
4  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Button Jointed Plush Lion on: September 20, 2012 05:15:39 PM
So, I really hate hate having scraps of fabric I throw away and waste, and I also have come into a very large amount of vintage buttons that I'm in love with.  I also have been experimenting with making my own 3d plush animal patterns with instruction from whileshenaps.typepad.com/.  EXCELLENT site and has expanded my knowledge of pattern making SO much!  Any way, I decided to start off my animal collection with a lion using those scraps and vintage buttons!

It was important to me that since he had movable legs, he should stand, too.  So I stuffed him really well, made sure his joints were good and tight and it worked!  I'm really pleased with how he turned out.  Thinking about a giraffe to match.
5  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Bride of Frankenstein doll on: September 07, 2012 07:56:44 PM
I had to wait a bit to post this because it was for Monster Swap 4 and I didn't want to spoil the surprise for my partner!!  Not all monsters are furry with fangs...

I used a bedsheet I got on clearance for $2 (because the seam was ripped out) for her dress, 15mm purple safety eyes for the eyes, and ivory alovasuede for her body.  I painted under the eyes with watercolor, and the stitch details I used a fine tip sharpie pen.  Her hair is Caron Simply Soft in black and white.  Enjoy!
6  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Ultros Plushie on: August 20, 2012 07:03:05 PM
Made this Ultros on commission! He's from Final Fantasy VI.

Polar fleece and felt, completely hand sewn.  I had to modify some 60mm safety eyes because I couldn't find the right color anywhere. The last picture is all I had to go on.
7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Monster Plush on: August 17, 2012 08:43:12 PM
Made this a week or so ago and I just love him so much!!

I just love his little pawprints!  He has 6 legs, so I call him a Spyster.

Here he is in the making
8  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Back to School Puppy on: August 04, 2012 06:59:57 AM
Made this for my older sister, who is a fourth grade teacher getting ready to go back to school.

I have a miniature one of these I use as a pincushion, and she liked it so I decided to enlarge the pattern and make her a plushie. I used a blanket stitch on the outer edges, whip stitch down his tummy seam and put her name on her puppy so no one would take him for a walk and not come back with it! Turned out so cute I'm going to have to make one for each of my kids now.

The pattern is free and the link to it can be found on my blog.
9  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Monster Plush (video link!) on: July 31, 2012 09:21:26 PM
Hi everybody!

So I started sketching the other night and I decided I loved my little monster so much I had to make her... RIGHT NOW.

It didn't matter that it was 9:30 at night already, the kids were in bed and I had the sewing urge!  Took me about three and a half hours.  She's made of two colors of 1 inch pile faux fur, felt, glass beads, DMC thread, black cotton fabric and poly-fil.
Here she is!

If you are interested in seeing her made, I recorded the whole thing and made a time-lapse video.  It's 3.5 hours of work put into 3 min and 45 seconds.  Just go http://youtu.be/u7na5CUwYt4  there!
10  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Sir McCloud the Cloud Monster (and his friends, too... pic heavy) on: July 20, 2012 09:01:51 AM
This is Sir McCloud the Cloud Monster

and his friends Trevor the Thundercloud

 and Clyde the Cloud!

I've never made plushies before, but I loved it.  I'm going to have to make more Cloud Monsters... it's going to drive my husband nuts.  Each one is about 12x18 inches, and all hand sewn.  They are made of faux fur, poly-fil, felt and safety eyes.  On the back of each of them I decided to make a little picture out of felt that described their personalities.

Sir McCloud

is of course a proper gentleman, and loves his cup of tea.

is a thundercloud, and a super scary guy (look at those teeth!) so he has a lightening bolt.

is a happy go lucky guy... rainbow!!

I had a ton of fun designing and sewing these. Until next time, Sir McCloud says...
