31  Re: Paper and Mixed Media Craft-Along in Craftalongs by geekgirl1000100 on: January 16, 2017 10:16:42 AM
more tutorial video pet peeves:
- the music being louder than the person talking.  If you have talking in your video just don't do any music at all.  It's distracting.
- angle your camera so your hands aren't in the way of what you are showing!

mandykaye - nice gelli prints!

audio - like youre crow art.  the gelli print background is really nice.

Smmarrt thanks for all the video recoomendations.  I used to avoid watching videos altogether but they can be useful and I don't have a long list of favorites yet.

noooitaremybirthday - cool idea with the paperclips.  The most I've ever done to a paperclip is to put a little washi tape flag on it.  And great way to use up blank labels.  I have a big assortment of odd sized labels that I bought as a packaged deal for a couple dollars at our local scrap exchange/reuse center.

Here is what I did for the Friday the 13th challenge.  Friday the 13th makes me think of black cats.  I'm a cat person and whenever I adopt a new cat I go through local rescues and black cats have a lesser chance of getting adopted.  Sad
So I tried out my new charcoal pencils and did some cats.

32  Re: 50 Projects More or Less...2017...Let's Create and Have Fun! in Craftalongs by geekgirl1000100 on: January 15, 2017 06:37:14 AM
About the January challenge:

I have a TON of craft supplies.  and for all kinds of different crafts.  But I could not think of a craft/craft item I would want to get rid of.  Even if I don't do it very often, I pretty much do use everything I have.  But I did make myself throw out a bunch of old acrylic paints and some ink pads that had dried up.  I also threw out some bits and pieces of ephemera I knew I would never use and weren't nice enough to pass on to others.  I ended up with 1.5 trash bags full of crap  Shocked

For a new to me craft, I decided to try charcoal drawing.  I have some nice charcoal pencils that were given to me (thanks PerfectlyBohemian Smiley ) and I had never really tried using charcoal pencils.  It was fun.  And very messy.  I wouldn't say I'm great at it but I can see me using them on occasion.  Both pictures were inspired by pictures I saw on pinterest.  They are pretty simple but I wanted mostly to focus on the shading which is not something I've even been good at no matter what the medium.

35  Re: Ongoing ATC Swap -- January 2017 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by geekgirl1000100 on: January 14, 2017 08:45:16 AM
I received 2 lovely ATCs.

First from mandykaye for artist's choice.  A really pretty watercolor background with a stamped tea image on top.  I love the colors.  The picture doesn't show the background off as much as I would like. Thanks for the cool background extra!

And from curiousfae for my herb theme - a coriander watercolor.  Great job on the coriander! And it's one of my favorites Smiley
I think I almost have enough herb ATCs to start thinking about how to frame them and put them in my kitchen.  I was looking at some of my options at AC Moore this weekend.

37  Gingerbread Muffins in Dessert by geekgirl1000100 on: January 12, 2017 07:42:19 AM
These One Bowl Spiced Gingerbread Muffins were really good.  I tried the recipe because it only used one bowl and I am lazy   Cheesy

Of course I had to alter the recipe a bit,  I rarely make a recipe as is.
While I love ginger I am not a big fan of nutmeg or clove so I almost always cut back or cut out those ingredients.

Here are my changes to the ingredient list
-   Instead of mashed banana I used canned pumpkin
-   No orange zest
-   No cloves
-   Used 2 tsp cinnamon
-   1/8 tsp nutmeg.

I took these to work and they were devoured.

and with maple glaze

38  quilled dragon in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by geekgirl1000100 on: January 12, 2017 07:32:34 AM
I used to do a lot of quilling but got away from it.  The personal swap I did with mandit1990 inspired me to drag out all my quilling supplies and make this dragon.

40  Re: Personal/Private Swap Gallery, 2017 in The Swap Gallery by geekgirl1000100 on: January 12, 2017 06:16:09 AM
Jasper is an awesome name!

I had a lot of fun crafting for mandit in our personal Christmas stocking swap.

In no particular order here is what mandit made/got for me:

(I didn't get a picture of the  felt fish cat toys she made for my cats!)

This really awesome watercolor of the Great A'Tuin from Discworld ( And the 4 world elephants: Tubul, Jerakeen, Berilia and Great T'Phon)
I love this a lot.  I need to find a good place to hang it

This hilarious and math-geeky hoopla.  I wish I could take it to work but the mild profanity would be frowned upon

A Rory ATC (from Doctor Who).  Rory is one of my favorites.

a mixed media cat canvas.  Mandit said this was her first attempt at mixed media and I think she did a great job.  Love the colors.

Super cute earrings

a River song no-sew tote bag.  It's a good size.  I'll be using this a lot

The actual stocking - it's in the shape of a paw and is made from Doctor Who comic fabric

opposite side

double-sided headband
one side is wine themed

and the other is coffee!

Tons of extras in the form of ephemera:
There's stamps, papers, ribbons, beads, gears, a bamboo crochet hook and lots of other stuff

One of my favorite extras - a steam punk owl stamp

And a person stamp.  I've been wanting one of these and I was with mandit when she found this at a thrift store and bought it.  I was jealous because she found it first.  I didn't know she planned it for me Smiley

And I had a hard time getting a picture of these without glare but on the same thrift store outing she also found these awesome looking cards.
