1  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Origami Blossoms mini quilt on: February 01, 2017 06:05:36 PM

I recently made this quilt block as my mini quilt for my partner in the Mini Quilt swap. I found the pattern online. It is called Origami Blossoms by Valerie Rigney.

I am a novice quilter, so I was pleased to learn the half square triangle, and miter corners on the border (even though I only did 2 that way cuz I messed up and cut fabric I shouldn't have) and was super excited at how the binding came out.

The back has pocket corners for hanging. Size is about 16" squared.

Love love love it! Thanks for looking.

2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Beginners Hand-Carved Stamp Swap? on: December 30, 2016 09:46:26 AM
I have recently been learning about and making some Hand-Carved stamps and thought it would be fun to do a beginners swap for others who wanted to try it out, but are new to the craft. If there is interest, we can discuss logistics as to stamp size, and how many. I was thinking this should be a small swap, perhaps medium, swap where you carve X stamps, then create an item with the stamps (card, tag, etc) then send both the stamp and created item to partner.

3  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Braided-Edge Crochet Cardigan on: December 06, 2016 07:12:52 AM
I have been expanding my crochet skills into making clothes, and I thought this Braided-Edge Crochet Cardigan by Linda Dean Crochet, pattern in the Oct 2016 issue of Crochet World would be the perfect pattern to work! I ended up using a heavier weight yarn than the pattern called for, so I had to adjust the pattern several times to make it work. It turned out amazing!

My son's 3rd grade teacher is an amazing woman, friend, and teacher! I can go on and on about how great she is.  For many reasons, I wanted to make something fantastic to show my appreciation for her, so this cardigan was my gift to her! She and I are very similar in size, so I knew that if it fit me, it would fit her.

My family and I going to Disney World next week (!!!) so I decided to bring this in and give it to her today! She loved it, and it looked beautiful on her!

You will have no idea who your partner is, until "Address time", which will be at the end of the crafting period.  You also have to "check in" with me, the organizer approximately a week after the sign ups close - this lets me know that you are ready to send. If you do not check in, you will be removed from the swap. You will only know their address and proper name. You will have approximately 1 week after check in period to ship your personal art off!

Here is the time line broken down:

~ Crafting period: Starts NOW Sept 30-Oct 24th
~ You are required to check in with the organizer via pm between the dates of October 18-20.  Anyone who has not checked in by 10 PM (EST) on Oct 20th will be dropped from the swap and will not receive an address to send to.
~ Addresses will be distributed no later than October 24th.
~ You must ship October 25-27th

Swap Rules:
~You must post in thread at least once before being accepted into the swap.

~ No extras please!  Since the only communication will be through this thread, and there will be no discussion among partners, we don't want anyone feeling upset they didn't send an extra!

6  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / School bus button art hoopla on: September 12, 2016 12:03:39 PM
I made this, my first ever, school bus button art hoopla for quaggy in the Giant Multi Themed Swap. I was inspired by a very similar pin she has on Pinterest.

I love the school fabric I found for the background. I think it tied it in nicely.

8  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Legacy Afghan on: July 31, 2016 11:02:12 AM
My grandma passed away May 2015, and when I went to her funeral,  I inherited her yarn and crochet/knitting stuff.  This included almost 150 granny squares she had made.  She had 6 connected,  and I spent this past week connecting it.  The squares are 6" and the afghan is 10x12 squares. We lived hundreds of miles apart my entire life,  so I didn't get to spend much time with her,  but we had an amazing connection and I loved her deeply.  This is an heirloom my family will treasure for generations to come.

9  CROCHET / Amigurumi: Completed Projects / Scottish Sheep-Baaa! on: June 28, 2016 12:30:38 PM

In 2014, a friend of mine shared on her timeline the photo in this photo. What cute sheep they are! If I recall correctly, and I may not, they are Scottish Blackface. (I was corrected, they are Valais Blacknose from Switzerland) So I then said to myself, I can make those! I started the project. I crocheted the basic amigurumi, and started to individually place, like latch hook, then separate hundred upon thousands, now probably tens of thousands of strands of hair. I had put it away unfinished for half a year or more, and recently brought him out again. Today, I added his ears, and he is done! (Even his face is furry!)  I'd like your opinion....what should his (or her) name be?
