1  Hamster cage shelving unit in Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects by tacitcat on: August 24, 2009 11:04:02 AM
My cat Phoenix managed to knock one of my roborovski hamster's cage off the dresser on Friday, so this weekend my boyfriend Matt and his parents endeavored to make a shelving unit that would allow the hamsters to be visible yet inaccessible to my cat.  I think it's cat-proof, but we shall see when I bring him home this evening.

The hamsters are all moved in to their new cages. Ender, the one who was almost killed on Friday, is on the top.  Bean, the one we just moved into his new cage this morning, is on the bottom.  (FYI, each cage consists of two small units connected together with tubes and attachments.)

Close-up of the doors.  The top one swings up, the second door opens downwards.  They close on the sides.

The whole unit before the hamster cages were in their final set-up.

It took a lot of time and money, but I am so pleased with it!

-Graco baby changing table
-Attached plastic mesh to the sides with staples
-Made doors out of poplar frames, mesh, brass joiners in the corners, hinges, hook and eye latches on the sides and brass handles

Oslo Socks done! (2/4 pairs)

The foot is a little longer on the right foot, but I love the stripes.  Grin

Now for a little sock siesta before completing the last two unfinished pairs!

Hello!  My friend finally sent me the pictures of the baby spider monkey I knit him back in August.  I was rushed to complete it before he left the state, so the face looks sloppy and the edges aren't woven in as neatly as I would've liked. (And boy were there ends! look at all the fingers!)  Still, he's cute...Monkeys are cute.  And his favorite animal...

Please trust that Robin does, in fact, have 4 hands, not 3.

(That makes 3 animals I've knit from that book: snake, adult pig and baby spider monkey.)

Oh, and he's knit in Knitpicks Merino Style (dk weight) in Cinnamon and Nutmeg. Soo soft...I couldn't find any fuzzy yarn for the body.  Smooth yarn works just fine, I think.

Hi Horsepower! I'm definitely in with my (gulp) 4 unfinished pairs.  Well, one of the first socks needs a toe, but I hope that still counts as finished.

Oldest to Recent

Sock One:

Sock Two:

Sock Three:

Sock Pal Sock:

I just cast-on for the second Sock Pal sock this afternoon, so that one will be completed first, with the rest to follow.  I have a May 2nd deadline on that pair, at least. Smiley

I knit one at the last minute for my half-sis.  Here's my contribution:

Yeah, I know the ears are off...Don't know what happened there. Grin

She really liked it, all the same...

Here's my third FO from this book: the adult pig.  I also made the baby spider monkey, but my friend keeps forgetting to send me photos of it. This was a Christmas present for my step-mom who collects pigs. She really liked it, though the finishing kept me up until the wee hours of Christmas morning.

Here's my Kate, with a candy cane colored shirt.  The ears are a bit weird, but all the same...
