471  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 9 on: December 08, 2015 03:08:32 PM
I think the idea of a paper-piecing only swap is a great one if it means we eliminate it from the regular swap. I've asked for paper-pieced blocks in the past and have made them for others, but I know they can be too much of a headache for some quilters. I would suggest we also add applique blocks to the "they need their own swap" list.

I'm fine with any color combinations people want, so long as they give me a better idea of what the color is. Mauve is one of those names I still haven't quite figured out, for instance.

When I goof up a block, I'd really appreciate being told, either in the thread or in a pm. That gives me a chance to make things right. I received some blocks that were unusable, but I didn't want to hurt the sender's feelings, so I kept quiet. Giving her another block choice or giving her some guidance in how to construct the block probably would have been better for both of us.

If we made a trial run of our pattern before requesting it or put a limit on the number of pieces a specific block could use, we would be less likely to have 1 hour vs. 36 hour blocks.

This looks like a lot of fun to try! I usually crochet (so my yarn stash is much bigger than my fabric), but it's fun to sew a bit too! I'll be out of state for a few weeks during crafting time, so for my first try at this, I'm gonna just stick with 1 partner.  So...I'm in! Q sent!
**waves hi to kbrison! It's nice to be in a swap with you again!**

Since you don't have a photo on your post, I didn't pay attention to who had made the comment . . . until I hit the wave.  Grin Hope the kids are doing well and dh, too. Looks like a certain girl has really gotten taller. Playing basketball, playing soccer, sounds like an athlete in the making. It will be fun to sew together since we're used to crochet swaps when we're both involved.

I really appreciate that folks are willing to accommodate my blue obsession. Unfortunately I may be waiting till the last minute to sign up because I have fallen way way way behind in my Christmas crafting and December starts tomorrow... seriously, it is December tomorrow.

And from Aspenwall:
I REALLY want to join this one but i'm not sure yet :/ i have a bunch of craft things 'due' this week so I guess i'll see how craft-crazy I feel by the 5th.

"Yes, but Christmas is Dec. 25th so that still gives you 22 days to sew after Christmas. Sign up! You know you want to," said the evil quilter with a grin.

Averia, we made 12 1/2" blocks for donniesgirl that each contained 100 same-color squares. Making a shades of blue block for you would be no problem.

Need to get my questionnaire filled out before life gets crazy again.

I would have gone blind after the first thousand stitches. After 89,000+ my mind would have been fried, too! Great dedication on your part!

Flygirl88, the tags were stamped on a handcrafted paper from India. All the papers from the pack had gold touches, but this particular design just seemed perfect for the Eiffel Tower background. The Eiffel Towers were stamped with Crystal pigment ink pad in Chocolate Brown, then colored with Spectrum Noir alcohol markers.

My paternal grandmother, my Meme, was French, so it was fun to honor her as I made these for you. Glad you like them.

I've shipped quilt blocks to Sparkledust in England, Melladh in Sweden, and Sloth in Canada. Bring on our International friends. Love you all!

For an easy and cheap design wall, buy a flannel-backed vinyl table cloth. Fasten it to a wall with the flannel side out. Presto! Design wall finished. Depending upon how you fasten it, it can be removed when not in use, rolled up to get it out of the way, or left in place. I use Scotch brand clips that can be removed by pulling on the adhesive strip. That way there aren't any holes in the wall or stains on the paint. Being vinyl-backed helps the design wall keep its shape.

Love the way the Icky Thump blocks came together.

Of course you have to sign up, Melladh! How else will the rest of us use up all the blues you usually request?  Grin
