Newt Submission!!

Subject: Alchemy
House: Ravenclaw
Project;
My knee high Noro socks, mostly made from the scraps leftover from other socks, are finally done! Yay! I'm wearing them right now.

I love that larger knitted items sort of become memory banks for the things you did whilst making them - these are a narrow boat holiday, lots of evenings snuggled up watching the walking dead, and the car trip to Brighton!

Well done on the knitting accomplishment midkiffsjoy!

Challenge; Bean leftovers
House: Ravenclaw
Project: scrapbook
Another 8 pages of smashbook, including a few museum trips, a weekend in Brighton and a holiday in Spain (I sent myself postcards everyday, they are probably my favorite element, even though one of them is still lost in the mail...). All the washi tapes I use ate leftover from other projects, mostly from the sketch book I edged a few terms ago

We've had one amazing donation to Diagon alley this term, Gaudiknight has offered us a set of her handmade HP board game! Any other donations towards the end of term prize giving would be very gratefully recieved Smiley

Diagon Alley needs you!
Donations of prizes (to be drawn for in the end of term feast) are gladly received, please PM noodle-bug & Mistress Jennie if you have something to donate, or any questions...

a few guidelines on what make a suitable Prize donation:
We're looking for handmade items, HP themed items, crafty gift cards/gift certificates, or complete craft kits.
- The handmade items should be either good for any HP fan, or customizable for the winner.  (Ex: A Hedwig bookmark would be good for anyone and is a lovely prize, but a Slytherin bookmark wouldn't work for everyone.  Better yet would be an offer of a bookmark in the winner's choice of House colours!). Alternately, handmade items useful to a crafter are also great, such a handmade 'ideas' notebook or hand printed fabric.
- Non handmade items that are HP themed are great to;  For example, if you wanted to offer a bundle of HP postcards or other merch.
- Etsy gift cards from folks who have Etsy shops, or a donation of a craft store gift card would be lovely - but please do be aware that we are a global community, so a 'big brand' store would be much better than your local independent.... and better yet would be an online craft store (especially if it's your fab local store who we can all support online!) Smiley
- Craft kits are also a lovely donation, which should include all the materials and the directions to make a new craft. The kit doesn't have to include fancy/expensive tools, or tools that are "general supplies", such as scissors.
- However, please, no boxes of general craft supplies... although these are well meant, we find that most craftsters already have enough general stash without an assortment of odds and ends to add to it!

THANK YOU to all our donors - You're part of what makes the HPC the great community it is!

The final philosopher's stone challenge is posed on the board Cheesy

You guys may have noticed a distinct lack of prize prototype showing up - well, it's all designed and ready to go, but there's been a machinery issue is the communal use machine I planned to use had been broken) - but it's scheduled to be fixed very soon - yay! I'm not convinced I'll get time to make my mock up before end of term, but I'm glad to know that there's progress and the prizes for all members of any team that completes the challenge will be going ahead!
I had originally planned to giving you all a colour option between a 'standard colourway' or personalised to your house... But since I haven't been able to show you what your choosing, I think I'll go with house colours as I think that's cooler ; what do you guys think?

Celebrating badass crafting one month at a time
Magician of the Month

Magician of the Month is where we recognise outstanding HPC contributions; it may be awarded for any thing that embodies the spirit of the HPC, for example
~ excellence in crafting and a stellar finished item
~ improved skill in a particular craft type displayed by a member who has documented their learning progress over a number of projects
~ crafting in the face of adversity by continuing and developing a project in the face of crafting disaster
~ any other reason that raises it's head as we go along!
If you feel that a person or project is particularly deserving of being considered for Magician of the Month, please do PM noodle-bug to let her know why you think that

Congratulations to the current Magicians of the Month
Tiamatfire
awesome (not tacky) christmas jumper

This jumper combines some of my favourite things; it's recycling an old thrift store sweater, and it' starting a new tradition as Tia intends to add to it each year - which is nessecary becasue at the minute it's frankly not tacky at all...

Congratulations to the current Magicians of the Month
AnnoyingBigSister
Snail teacup

My favourite thing about this project is that it's such a creative twist on the class prompt, such a fabulous original idea - I bet not many other people have a snail laden teacup on their tree!

Congratulations to the current Magicians of the Month
Mistress Jennie
Magical Portrait Art

This is a step outsode of the things we normally see from Jennie, so once againproves her wonderfulness as she turns her ahnd to another new craft and compeletly rocks it!

Please all help yourself to the Magician of the Month badge

All of this terms winners are welcome to take the MotM badge to display proudly. Your contributions help make the HPC the great place it is!
The badge was kindly made for us by Mistress Jennie

SPEW
The good you can do
[/color]

SPEW crafting is as a great way to help out AND earn yourself extra house points!

SPEW is crafting for a charity. This could mean making items that you can send to the charity for them to use directly (such as the hats which Midkiffsjoy has recently been making, donated to keep refugee children cozy) - or alternatively it could be making items which will be sold to raise money for the charity (such as through a craft fair or bake sale)

SPEW projects earn 10 extra house points each - which means that if you can combine SPEW with a class or challenge your project will earn 25 house points.
SPEW projects can also be submitted even if not combined with a class, and will still earn you the extra 10 points  Grin

Please note, crafting of gifts for friends is very lovely, but is not a charity action so is not SPEW Tongue

Some ideas for SPEW crafting...
These lists are not exhaustive! If you have ideas, please share them in the thread and I'll add them here

In your local community lots of places may be happy to receive donations of crafted items;
- homeless shelters; hats, scarves, gloves, blankets or other warm items  for people sleeping on the streets
- maternity wards at hospitals; very small hats to fit premature babies
- care homes: blankets, cushions and slippers to cheer up lonely folks and keep them warm.
- women's shelters: women's clothing / accessories, children's toys, bath and beauty products, housewares (blankets / cushions, etc)
- many areas now have collection centres for donations to refugees, accepting clothing and children's toys
- Animal shelters always need blankets, animal beds and toys
- In the UK, many NHS trusts ask for donations of knitted 'Twiddlemuffs' which are used as therapeutic care for Dementia patients (Pattern and more details and pattern here)

Use crafting to raise some money for your chosen charity or community resource
- through a bake sale or craft fair stall
- craft and donate prizes for fundraiser raffles or similar events.
- have a sponsored crafting event with some friends, such as a knit-a-thon!
- Run a stall at a local fair teaching a simple craft to adults or children; or run a game, such as 'How Many Meters of Yarn in the Blanket' (a variation on guess the sweets in the jar)

Challenge: PS#9
Team: me
House; Ravenclaw
Project:
I'm a knitter, unsurprisingly I desire yarn. So I spun some! My first go outside the workshop where I learnt, produced 65m of super soft vegan cashmere - yum!

I want to knitter something 'special' with it, but I'm struggling to find anything suitable, any suggestions from you lovely HPCers would be welcome!
