11  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Re: My Little Mermaid Daughters on: November 05, 2016 07:02:52 AM
GORGEOUS mermaids!  So well done and I love your hubs as a shark!

Aw thanks! I made hubby's costume, too. Smiley I made a matching shirt for myself and glittered some shoes to match my leggings.
12  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / My Little Mermaid Daughters on: November 04, 2016 11:24:22 AM
I asked my 3 year old what she wanted to dress up as this year for Halloween, and she said she wanted to be a mermaid!  So, I decided to make both the girls (and myself) mermaids.

I think they turned out pretty cute!   Smiley

For my toddler's outfit, I made my own pattern and design.  I used a pair of her leggings as a sizing guide and cut around them and ended them a little after her knees.  My mom helped me with the surging, since I haven't quite mastered surging.  We added a yoga-style type band to the top.  For the bottom fin area I cut two layers of stiffer sheer material.  I ironed and hemmed the bottom, sewed the seams together.  I then did a gather stitch on the two layers together, gathered it up, and then sewed it onto the bottom of the stretchy mermaid top.  For her seashell bra, I sewed together some stretchy headband material that would fit around her torso.  I then embroidered a double layer of pink felt together and then tacked it onto the headband material.  I made some starfish bobby pins for her hair, but they were so delicate that they broke really easily, so I don't have nice pictures of them in her hair.  I found a cool mermaid-scale stencil set at the store, and used that for her make-up.

My baby's outfit was inspired by a pin I found on pinterest.  It was just too cute.  Her leggings were made from the same material as her big sister's shirt.  I used a pair of her leggings as a guide for cutting them out and my mom helped my the surging.  We added a yoga-style band to the top of her leggings to her's, too.  For her seashell top, I cut out some seashells on a piece of card stock and used it as a guide for cutting out on some thick sparkly material and some heat-n-bond.  I also made her a stretchy, shiny pink headband to match.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN and thanks for looking!  Smiley
13  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: Will there be another craftster best of? on: October 25, 2016 09:06:35 AM
Let them know we all still want it A LOT (even if it's almost 2017)!  Cheesy  Outside of the crafting world it seems like crafters don't get a lot of recognition, so it's fun to have something "official," and to give a virtual high five to those who make this site so awesome.  Plus I think the "I'm a Best of" winner badges that people can pin and put on their blogs is a great way to get some free Craftster advertising around the web.

I agree, whole heartedly!

They are very detailed and bright. They look ready for lots of playdates. The box is very beautiful too. Is there an age limit to play with peg people? I would love to take them on adventures.

My nephew turned 11 and he still loves them. I want a set for myself, so definitely no age limit! Wink

16  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Even More Super Hero and Villian Peg People! on: October 05, 2016 03:10:29 PM
I made my nephew a ton of super hero peg people a few years ago.  He was carrying them around along with some comic books this summer so I asked if he wanted more for his birthday.  He said YES!  So, off to work I went!  Each peg person is painted with acrylic paint and then a spray clear coat to seal.

Ironman, Captain America, and Poison Ivy!

Batman, Cat Woman, and Thanos!

The Joker, Deadpool, and Hob Goblin!

Mystique, The Flash, and Wolverine!

I wasn't sure if he had room in his other box for more, so I decoupaged a new one for him with comic book pages.

17  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Baby Bean's Tutu Party! on: October 05, 2016 01:58:58 PM
My mom and I had just a TON of leftover white tulle from my wedding a good 7 years ago just laying around in the basement calling out for use.  So, we decided to do a princess dress-up party for my daughter's 3rd birthday.

To start, we dyed a bagillion yards of tulle.  We had red dye that was made for polyester and nylon.  The other was just a regular blue fabric dye, but still worked just fine on our tulle.  We boiled them outside on our gas camp range, rinsed a few times with cold.  Afterwards I ran them through the wash to make sure all the extra dye was off the tutus so they wouldn't mess up any of the girls' clothes.  Then we hung them outside to dry.  We boiled different lengths at different times to get lighter and darker shades, and mixed the red and blue dyes together to make purple.

To make the tutus, I used wide loose woven headband material, sewn into toddler waist size circles.  I used my rotary cutter to cut the tulle into 5" wide strips.  I pulled and knotted the tulle through the headband material in two layers and then added a bow at the end on the back of each tutu.  I made 12 tutus in total!  Whew!!

The extra tulle (which there was a lot of), I used to decorate for her party.  We were going to have the party outside, but it rained so we had to move it indside.  I still got to do what I wanted with the extra tulle, though.  We used our collapsible canopy (minues the fabric canopy part) and put it up in her playroom and draped tulle over it.

I haven't painted a lot of shoes this year.  I blame in on the baby I had in June.  Wink  But I managed to do a pair for a mom friend for her son's 3rd birthday.  He loves Plants vs Zombies!  These little guys are canvas shoes with fabric paint, painted on with brushes.

Is there still no 2015 Best of?  I keep checking but I haven't seen anything.
20  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Baby Bean's Toddler Quilt on: July 15, 2016 01:43:06 PM
It took me forever, but I finally finished my daughter's quilt for her toddler bed.  Its a simple design, but I'm a simple sewer.  My daughter's room has base colors of black, white, and gray with bright colored accents.
