281  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Octopus Cuff - needle felted on: September 11, 2013 05:51:58 AM

Prototype for a workshop I will be teaching in November. I'm very pleased with how this came out. I want to do some variations. When I get a chance I also want to look for beads that might be used for the tentacle suckers. Octopi can do some amazing colors and patterns so there are lots of possibilities!! =^..^=

No frame involved.

I'm in the process of making this into a class for CraftArtEdu. Had a good time making these three and expect I will make more sometime - wonderful surface for bead embroidery or other forms of embellishment. I really need to get some more beads!!

Thanks again for the suggestion.

Wire hangers would certainly be sturdy, but I wonder if it would have to be completely sealed. Their strength would be excellent. I'm not looking to make "poseable" pieces.

Unfortunately I don't happen to have any wire hangers. Sad

I've time to figure out what would be best to use. I have a couple ideas for pieces that would require a very good armature, but I am not likely to be making them in the near future.

Thanks for the suggestion, P_E_S_T. Do you know if the metal used in chenille stems (pipe cleaners) is archival? I wouldn't really want the chenille so I'm not sure they would work for me. Doing a google search, I couldn't even find a definitive answer as to what metal is used in chenille stems. I think a heavier gauge wire will probably work if I decide to do anything else with an armature.

Working on some ideas. I don't often work with armatures, but needed one for this guy. His pose isn't really stable which is something I would need to resolve when doing a more detailed version.  No doubt it would help a lot if I had a thicker wire from which to make the armature! lol!!
