Aahh, this makes me so happy!! I love Tom Robbins and Still Life With Woodpecker was the first book I read of his -- I picked it up specifically because I loved the cover so much!! Unrelated to that, I have an old as the hills copy of Whitman's Leaves of Grass that lost its cover long ago and I keep meaning to embroider a new one for it, but never do....I think I'll use your project as inspiration!!
As everyone before me has said....the fringe on this piece is WONDERFUL!!!! I'm making a bag right now that will hopefully include a fair amount of fringe at the bottom....I hope mine comes out as well as this!! Love it, love it, love it.
I just taught a basic sewing and design class and one of my students made a wrist cuff out of crayon bits by sewing/hot glueing them to a bit of fabric -- it looks fantastic, I have to say!! You could also make a fun crayon crown....
This is wonderful!! A friend of mine has done something similar, but with knitting needles instead. I absolutely adore the color combos you have going on, the piece has a nice fresh edge to it. I can't believe you did this BY HAND!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thought I ought to stop lurking about and finally post something....I've been getting my long-neglected crafty habits back up and running oh-so-slowly, so I thought I'd start with a few warm-up projects....namely, unicorns and narwhals. Have a look if you like, links below!!
