1  McCall's 6800 in Sewing Pattern Reviews by Chymaera on: February 18, 2014 08:03:41 AM
At the begin of the Winter, I was looking for a new wool coat but couldn't find any in my budget. So, I had the crazy idea of look at pattern and fell in love with the high/low hem of McCall 6800 view B

I bought some wool blend and a really cool satin for the lining. I had no problem with the pattern. The instructions were pretty clear and the result is really close to the pattern picture.

The lining was a challenge, satin is evil and I had a hard time cutting it so the fit isn't perfect but close enough. (must buy a big cutting mat and rotary cuter) I don't really like the way the sleeves are made and next time I'm doing this, I might try to do it in one piece instead of 2. I would also had something to the back, a simple tab with 2 buttons or maybe a corset style lacing. Other than that, it's an awesome pattern.

Here's some pictures

I'm planning to sew that pattern again but as a trench coat for Spring, I already bought black twill and need to find the right colorful satin.

2  1 pattern, 2 dresses in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Chymaera on: July 02, 2012 02:18:19 PM
Hi everyone,

With the beginning of the summer, I started to sew some more dresses to wear since I don't like the fashion you can find in stores right now. Last time that McCalls patterns came in sale at my fabricville, I bought the 5094 and gave it a try. After making a muslin with old sheets I bought at the second hand store for that purpose, I ended up making this one with some fabric I bought last year.

I was not happy with the zip in the back, so I decided to make another one with a side zip. I'm pretty proud of it. I made alot of modifications : I made the neckline a bit lower in the front, I added a contrasting band to the skirt and I had to use a different kind a skirt because of the pattern on the fabric, I use to rectangle that I pleated to the top. Here's the result :

I made a new skirt. An a-line in black twill. I drafted the pattern all by myself.

It has a surprise in the back.

6  some more piranha plants jewelry :) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Chymaera on: September 30, 2011 01:51:07 PM
Weeks ago, I post some piranha earring I made out of polymer clay. My friend asked for a pair, so since it's her birthday Sunday, I made her one. They're not as good as I wanted them to be and I don't have the patience to make more, I'm a sewing person, sculpting is a bit out of my league!!!  Undecided Anyway, I'm going to give her those for the moment and make some more in the future. I also made her a necklace pendant, which I'm proud of  Cheesy and I made myself another pair of earrings  Wink

7  piranha plants earring in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Chymaera on: September 05, 2011 02:22:44 PM
Back in the beginning of August, one of my friends posted something like this on facebook http://www.geeksaresexy.net/2011/08/05/super-mario-piranha-plant-earrings/ . I fell in love with it but they were back order till September. I didn't want to wait so I decided to try to make some. I went to the arts and crafts store to buy some polymer clay but I couldn't find the earring studs  Embarrassed I bought some of Etsy and waited for them to arrived. I didn't had time to make them till today.

It is my first time playing with polymer clay. It's a little sloppy, I know, I'm planning to do better next time  Wink

8  sweetie dresses :) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Chymaera on: September 05, 2011 10:10:41 AM
2 years ago, I bought this exact dress for a wedding http://heartbreakerfashion.com/dresses/sweetie-dress/sweetie-dress-classic-cherry.html . I love this dress and it is one of my favorite to wear, but it's a little bit pricey for what it is, a simple cotton dress. So, when I heard we had a wedding to attend the Labor day weekend, I decided to try to replicate the sweetie dress I love.

I started by trying the masking tape method.

not really a success because it came apart when I removed it from the dress. So I used tissue paper and trace around each of the 7 panels of the dress. I transferred it on a easel pad with grid lines and added the seam allowance all around. Then, I made a quick old sheet version of the dress to see if my pattern was alright.

It was a success  Cheesy

So, I made this one

It's a Robert Kauffman fabric with lovely gold outline butterflies. I line a whole dress with red broadcloth to which I added a ruffly trim to make it a little bit more dressy (I might cut the lining in the future) and I made regular straps instead of the halter ones (much more comfortable to wear all day). I even made a purse to go with it https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=390075.0

I am so in love with that dress and how quick it is to make (it's basically a 7 gore dress) that I made another one the weekend after.

Sorry, I don't have a picture of me wearing it.  Undecided

9  simple buttercup bag. in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Chymaera on: September 05, 2011 10:08:25 AM
I had a wedding on Saturday. I made my dress and couldn't find a purse like I wanted. So, while looking around here, I saw a lot of those buttercup bag and decided to try to make one. Here are the result.

It's my first bag I ever made. It is a bit flimsy, I should have put interfacing on the lining of the purse, but it did its job of holding my wallet and cell Wink

10  another 6557 dress :P in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by Chymaera on: July 31, 2011 08:33:34 AM
Yesterday, we had the stay home and wait for the internet tech so I decided to make a dress  Wink Went to the trusted New Look 6557 and made the view C this time around. I also made the bust 2 sizes smaller since I had to take soooo much in on my red bandana dress last weekend. I'm proud of it Smiley My boyfriend isn't sure if he likes it or not but I think it's because light blue and pink aren't my usual red and black Wink

Sorry for the heart but I was making an ugly face  Cheesy
