1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Another Middle Earth Swap? on: August 30, 2016 01:23:08 PM

Would anyone be interested in doing another Middle Earth Swap? I'm open to any time suggestion Smiley I'm thinking a four point swap would be a good idea and books or movies would be welcome.

Drooling over everyone's packages and book lists!

What kind of stone is the amulet of Samarkand made of? The crafted one, I mean? That one looks fantastic in the picture, really magical.

And I have to wait forever for my and RovingAnarchist's packages to arrive. At least a week. But feels like forever right now...

Sadly, I have no idea. I found it in a thrift store with a bunch of broken bits of jewelry and thought the stone was lovely. It looked magical so it seemed like the perfect fit for the piece.

geekgirl1000100, you'll have to let me know if you like the book Smiley

You made the tea bags, Wizards_Pupil?!?!  Color me impressed!!  I had one for breakfast this morning.  Yum!

My cat once threw up on a recently stenciled tee shirt that I had left out to dry so I feel your pain over the pets and crafting dilemma.  It's a good thing they're cute and cuddly some of the time!   Grin

I did, and it wasn't terribly hard. You just need a stapler, cotton thread, tea (I used loose leaf because that's what I had) and coffee filters. Cut the filters into rectangles, put your tea in the center, fold it, staple it, and boom! Tea bags.

Pets create the most amusing crafting dilemmas, don't they? But darn it they're cute and know how to work us!

I was just talking about the Bartimaeus Trilogy the other day!!! The entire series is phenomenal.  I love how the magician grows and matures through the stories, and how the djinn disguises his true nature from EVERYONE.  Even tries to disguise it from the reader, but can't in the end.  (First person POV helps.)  Highly, highly recommend these ones.

I can never find anyone who has actually read the series so thank you for having awesome taste, lol! I love Nathaniel's process of maturing because it was realistic. Kitty was also a fantastic female to read about. And Bartimaeus is simply the bomb.

I can not recommend Amulet of Samarkand enough. The main character is a Djinn who gets summoned by a apprentice magician and he (the Djinn) is the most sassy, wonderfully sarcastic character. The book is from his point of view and brings an interesting look on magic. It's not like Harry Potter where humans wield magic but the other creatures do and it's by manipulating them that the magicians get power.

I love the series (it's a trilogy with a prequel book) and think anyone who likes fantasy fiction would enjoy it. It's set in London in the 1980's but it feels like older than that.

As for the dog. She devoured the hoop and then tried to make it look like her sister had eaten it. She ran away with my yarn for the scarf at one point and I had to re-knit several rows. She's a little crafting menace.

That was my first attempt at making tea bags and they were difficult with the previously mentioned dogs romping around. They came out nicely though Smiley

6  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: My Favorite Book Swap (S/U 5/16/16 to 5/31/16; S/O 06/25/16) on: June 20, 2016 05:04:13 AM
Five more days till send outs!

Don't forget to post in our gallery with the items you've received. Also PM when you send/receive so I'll know where we're at.

On a crafting front, I've gotten all my books in (finally) but my dog destroyed my medium item. She has a chewing problem and can't be trusted alone with crafting supplies. Thankfully, I'll have some free time this week and should be able to make another one Smiley

I'm about halfway through the crafts. My large took a while to make, but the others will be easier in comparison. I've got one of the books in and I'm hoping the other comes in tonight.

I'm closer to you, anna.wahnsinn. I've started on one item and I'm still undecided about the others. I know the books, and I've ordered them, but they're taking their sweet time in getting here. Or at least it feels like they are. I'm a bit impatient. Wink

I just finished reading 'The Secret Keeper' by Kate Morton. It was the first book I'd ever read by her and I was quite impressed. The friend who recommended it had recommended several dud books so I was a little leery but I quite enjoyed it.
