this is so beautiful - how long did it take?
43  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Squid-topus on: February 23, 2011 10:42:52 AM
This little guy started out as an octopus, but I think he ended up looking more like a squid. I made him with needle and wet felting - and his legs have pipe cleaners so he's semi-posable.

And my little bit of recycling? The eyes - they are leftover eyechips from a Blythe doll

It took me a couple of days to get this done because I had to keep him away from my cat who thinks this is the most delicious thing on the face of the planet

this is spectacular - your stitching on the letters is flawless! Congrats on having the patience to finish it!
45  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: My first stumpwork experiment - Slipping some tongue on: February 23, 2011 10:19:53 AM
thanks, y'all - I knew it was going to be creepy when I spent a better part of my Friday night poking needles into a big tongue  Grin
46  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / My first stumpwork experiment - Slipping some tongue on: February 23, 2011 10:01:57 AM
I'm fairly new to embroidery and still kind of experimenting with different stitches and making different things happen. After seeing that amazing tentacle stumpwork by Jemimah I decided to try my hand at some 3-D stitching. I decided that if anything deserved to be in 3-D, it was Gene Simmons tongue (another plus was that his makeup design is pretty simple)

The makeup is just silk stitching and the tongue is felt stuffed with batting, then felted a bit to make it a little more solid and then covered in floss.

50  COOKING / Dessert / your best buttermilk dessert recipe? (please) on: February 23, 2011 09:52:51 AM
I bought some buttermilk last week to make chocolate chip bacon doughnuts (yum) and now I have a bunch of it leftover - I never cook with it, but I'm always open to experimenting and I need to make something for dessert tonight - so what would you do with a bunch of extra buttermilk? (I've got the usual dessert-y ingredients; flour, sugar, chocolate chips, cinnamon, butter)
