351  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Washing yarn? on: January 02, 2011 06:57:26 AM
I'd suggest putting one of the skeins/balls of yarn in a pillowcase and running it through the washer and dryer with a delicate load and seeing what happens. I'd be worried that the yarn might get all tangled.

You could also try putting the yarn in a plastic container with something that smells nice like cinnamon sticks or a car air freshener for a couple of days to see if that helps at all. (this is an untested theory) Another thought is an open box of baking soda supposedly helps keeps the refridgerator from smelling so perhaps putting the yarn in a plastic container with a box of baking soda or other store bought de-oderizer for a few days might help.

If all else fails you could put up with the smell while you crochet knowing that you can wash it once you've finished.

The wreath is very clever!

I really like the headbands. The little pearl beads in the middle of the flowers are the perfect finishing touch.

This looks amazing. That's sooo sweet of you to write up a pattern. I've never written a full pattern before, just some editting scribbles to remember how to adjust slipper patterns. I can't wait to get some blue yarn so I can make this for my hubby. I think I might make it as a pin that he could put on his backpack.

When I'm doing a really simple pattern I get a bit mesmerized and start dozing off too.

Totally awesome idea and pattern. My hubby and son would love me to make this hat. In the pic is the boy wearing a scarf that looks kinda like a lightsaber?

In the words of the 9th Dr Fantastic!

If i had blue yarn I'd make one right now. Thank you so much for sharing. This is just the ornament for my family's christmas tree and probably for my hubby's desk at work.

That is such a cute winter scene! I'd love to make that as a centerpiece for the table!

And idea for a spring time one: a green base with flat flowers and butterflies on the end of a pipe cleaner so they would 'fly' around as the car is moving. (that's just the first thing that came to mind)

As the 9th Doctor would say: Fantastic!

That blanket looks fantastic. How did you maintain sanity while doing such a monotonous stitch? I'd better not let my hubby see this project or he will want me to make him one! I peeked in your Etsy Shop and saw that you are selling the pattern for it there. That's very dangerous information that is. Smiley
