I received a beautiful little envie from spookygrrrly!

She sent a lovely watercolor(?) piece of art depicting a typical summery day in the Pacific North West, some pretty summery pieces of material, a really cool coaster from a local brewery, and an awesome bracelet with Litha colors and it glows in the dark!!! She said it reminds her of fireflies! I tried it out and it totally does glow!!  Thanks so much spookygrrrly!! It totally made my day!!!

102  Suede Journal in Completed Projects by mandykaye on: June 23, 2012 06:15:21 AM
I made this journal for another swap I was in recently! This was new territory for me because:

a.) I have never bound pages before and
b.) I have never worked with suede/leather

It turned out way better than expected lol!

I bought a bag of suede remnants at JoAnn's and just kind of pieced them together until I found a nice pattern. Luckily there were some pieces that fit together fairly well! SO I just stitched them together on the sewing machine...not sure if that is the proper way to do it but it worked out just fine! I lined it with navy blue fabric with small white stars but silly me forgot to take a picture of the inside before I sent it!!!!  Tongue

I used this tutorial that I found from a blog for the general outline of the pattern. http://pinterest.com/pin/68328119316743194/
I found it super easy to use! The pages are stitched with the ribbons and they can be untied from the cover if more signatures need to be added! I used a nice parchment paper for the pages.

Now I was trying to think of how I wanted the journal to be closed. Luckily, there was a piece of suede already cut and with the holes punched out to make the strap with!!! (Such a lucky find!) I had a suede-covered button in my stash and some gromets to I set off to attach them all!

Now obviously the stiching is a little wonky but overall it was a successful preject and I would gladly make another! (Maybe not with so many small pieces of suede though lol)! I hope you all try the tutorial! It makes journal making easy!!

103  Smaug's Treasures in Completed Projects by mandykaye on: June 23, 2012 05:54:25 AM
I was in The Hobbit Swap last month and knew immediatly what I wanted to create! I've seen a few Smaugs with treasures and thought a little treasure chest would be the perfect podium!

I used one of those plain wooden boxes (cuz its just more economical lol). I painted the outside metallic red and copper. I then found this small roll of snake-like fabric that looked like I imagined Smaug's skin to look like! I wrapped that around the outer bottom. I was looking for gold ribbon and found gold ric-rac. I used that as embellishment and a gold key charm to finish it off.

Now, Smaug I made out of poly clay. I then painted him and added the rhinestones for his eyes and the jewels that his belly was encrusted in from years of sleeping on his treasure!

For his stash, I had several little random gem-like whimsies and just twisted some gold ric-rac for extra gold lol! And because it just didn't have enough glitter, I made some glittery glass pebbles to embellish further lol!

On the inside, I added a bit of sparkly felt to the bottom to protect the treasures and painted this simple design I saw on pinterest!

It's a minimalist pic of Gandalf, Bilbo, and the 13 dwarves!!  Wink

I hope you all enjoy and feel inspired to try your own dragon nest!

I received from Sabertooth Pixie a couple days ago but have ben forced to work overtime the past couple days so I'm sorry for the delay in posting pics!

She sent a lovely package! A refurbished book with nice parchment paper! She adorned it with a gold triquetra! She made some nice recipe cards and decorated with some lovely drawings! A really nice pen with different colored ink cartridges! Another pen and a gold pen! Some crystals as well! A large quartz point, a piece of carnelian, rose quartz and amethyst! And a crystaled "M" sticker!

The spine of the book has some foreign writing..German perhaps? I love this, adds to the "mystery"!

ANd inside she illastrated the crystals she sent and wrote some useful info about them!

Thanks so much Sabertooth Pixie! Awesome package!!!! I can't wait for you to see yours!! Thanks for being an awesome partner!

SOrry for the delay but I received my package from Bunnie Boo over the weekend! She sent me this gorgeous Smaug hoop!

The pic doesn't capture the detail well....I have a hard time photo-ing shiny stuff lol! But she sewed tons of gold sequins and little sparkly beads under Smaug! I love it!

Also she made a Smaug pendant (Tolkien's design I believe..)

And then she sent some cool random extras we decided on!

Thanks so much Bunnie Boo! You are an awesome partner!!!!

107  Button Tree and simple watercolor in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by mandykaye on: March 30, 2012 10:43:08 PM
This is my first post in this category! I have seen a lot of really cool button trees on Pinterest and thought I'd try my hand at a small one. I used a 5" x 7" prestretched canvas. I painted the base with acrylic paint. I used a black background then finished with an extreme glitter finish for extra "magic". I glued on various buttons and filled in some gaps with a few rhinestones. Then I had some flower iron-on patches and some felt flower buttons and thought they'd be a cute addition!

And...I've been sampling watercolors! I love them but am just a beginner with watercolor paint. So here is a couple different "sketches". I hope to improve so I want to "document" my progress here lol!

Thanks for looking!!! Cheesy
