1  String me along! in Beads: Discussion and Questions by pleca on: September 26, 2005 01:50:27 PM
hi there, this is my first time visiting this section of craftster, since I am such a beading idjit.

I'm hoping one of you crafty gals will take pity on me and help with this problem.  I made this beautiful satin purse for my cousin to use on her wedding day:

I decided to add a beaded strap so she could hold the clutch easily, as shown below.

So today as I am getting it ready to ship off, the bracelet snaps and off fly the beads everywhere.  This ALWAYS happens to me when I made a necklace.  Can someone point me to a resource (or just tell me iffin you know) the right way to connect the "string" to a clasp?  They always come untied...is it the string I am using?  Or am I knotting wrong? Am I missing some essential finding?

I just don't want it to break on her wedding day, I would never forgive myself.  My cousin and I thank all of you in advance!

2  Re: classy pleated iridescent clutch TUTORIAL ADDED!!!! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by pleca on: September 24, 2005 03:24:59 PM
Just wanted to thank Laurasaurus for this great tutorial, I made a modified version of the clutch for my cousin's wedding.  I am quite pleased with the outcome, but it was a bitch working with satin & pleats!  I added a zipper to make it more formal, and added a ton of interfacing & filler to stabilze.

Front View:

Lining (I also added a hand embroidered heart)

My purse came today from knightswhosay knit, it is a super cute teeny knit purse.  I really like it...but I must confess I don't understand the handles.  I think I must be too old and unhip!  Huh

4  Re: Will Amy Butler's purse patterns make me crazy? in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by pleca on: August 09, 2005 10:33:28 AM
Well if you have any questions once you get started, feel free and ask me!  Maybe I will even have the pattern and can check it out for you.

One thing I have noticed, when I started sewing I was really paranoid about doing everything PERFECTLY, but the more I sew the more comfortable I feel "coloring out of the lines".  Especially when you are creating purses which don't have to *fit*.  Have fun, be creative and enjoy!

Here is my velma bag...

5  Re: blue purse swap pictures!! in The Swap Gallery by pleca on: August 05, 2005 11:56:46 AM
Yay!  Patience prevails-my package arrived today!  I have a bunch of work to take care of now, but I wanted to let everyone know (I pm'ed my partner already) so we can wrap this swap as PERFECT!

I edited this post to add picture of my loot from Carina!  I got a blue purse (duh), some placemats (?) from portugal that I can use as fabric, some lace, hair barettes and a watermelon magnet (I collect magnets!).  Thanks so much Carina!!

I'm already looking forward to green!  I've used it as an excuse to buy more fabric I don't really need...it's an addiction.

I hope no one minds if I post two more pictures of the purse I made for Carina because I love it so...

And the lining  (which I made out of some fat quarters!)

OK, I finally have pics of the bag I got from Queen of Fancy!  It's very beautiful and you can't really tell from the picture that it isn't a striped fabric but a series of strips of fabric with a cute elephant applique.  I forgot to get a pic of the lining, but it's a palm leaves print with handy pockets.

Thanks so much QOF!  (And I loved the personalized card as well!!) We were each other's first swap, awwwwwww.

And one in action...

I wish I hadn't flaked and forgot to take photos of the one I made her.   Undecided

8  Re: Yet another Pin-Up Girl, but I'm proud of it anyway. in Needlework: Completed Projects by pleca on: May 29, 2005 06:30:25 PM
Thanks for the compliment Queen-I've uploaded a few of my favorites so you can see them.  My library also has some of the Dover Series, which you can borrow and then copy the cdrom for nothing.   But I think I have bought about ten of them anyway...I'm a bit of a hoarder.

These are kind of small, I didn't save the larger tif files to my hard drive and I am too lazy to walk downstairs and get the book.  Undecided Anyway, they should give you an idea-some are so random and bizarre.  I think the last one would be great for a t-shirt.

Thanks Robotcricket!  I just reread my post, and realized I forgot my favorite one!  The Anne Taintor rip-off...

Oh and a closeup because I love it so...
