this is an embroidered portrait of my friend abigail. i did the design from a blind drawing i did of her at an art show. it ended up looking not so blind, so i just cleaned it up a little and made it into an embroidery.
just a little something i did awhile ago ... embroidered a letter to a friend. this is a detail from it.
i was inspired by the chicken building at the ohio state fair.
what this actually is, is the wrong side of a punch needle embroidery, my latest obsession. i wanted it to be as much a freehand embroidery as possible, though i did sketch a very rough outline in pencil before sewing.
the face cards are linoleum cuts with the colors stencilled. the ace of spades is also a lino. all the pips are stencilled.
detail of the king of clubs:
it is done on card catalog cards. it's for the university of iowa's cARTalog project using their old catalog cards. you can see other work for this project at their site: http://www.lib.uiowa.edu/pr/cartalog/
aka the infinite cleavage valentine gift bra ... i did this about a year ago, it's a bra i got at wal-mart and carefully shoved about 500 balloons in each cup using a seam ripper and (by the end of the project) my very sore fingers. i was experimenting with different ways to apply latch hook. i think the result came out very fun. and it's *really* fun to squeeze!!!
