1  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Sizing question for butterick 4790 wrap dress on: April 29, 2011 04:04:50 PM
Hello everybody! I am new to sewing and I wanted to give good old Butterick 4790 a try. My question is, to all you lovely ladies who have made it, which bust measurement should I use, high bust or fullest part? I ask because my one other attempt at clothing thus far was a tent of a shirt, for which I used my fullest bust measurement. This thing was huge and totally unwearable. I'm just not sure which is right for the more fitted, wrap around style dress. I think I would be making a size 20, or maybe 18. Waist is about 35 inches, hips are 40-something (can't remember haha) and I am 36 c bra size, about 42 around fullest part of breast. Help me! I've seen plenty of these dresses on here, but I'm just unsure which size to cut out and know nothing of pattern adjustment. Thanks!

2  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Batman wallet -- my second-ish real sewing project! on: January 25, 2011 05:58:58 PM
Hello, everybody! First time poster, long time lurker. My lovely fianc got me a sewing machine for christmas, and I thought he could use a new wallet as a thank you. It's a simple pattern I found on about.com or some such place. Some stitching is not perfect, but I'm fairly pleased, though a bit obsessed by the flaws. I do have a few questions: 1. How do you curve bias tape around corners? I simply could not make it work. And 2. I got some very thin vinyl that I had wanted to put on the outside to keep the cotton from wearing out, but I couldn't manage to keep it flat against the cotton while sewing, creating air pockets and strange bowing. Any vinyl tips? Anyway, that's pretty much it. Hope you enjoy it and feel free to give me any critique/advice. Thanks!
