1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Christmas Hutch on: July 06, 2017 08:23:40 AM
Seeing lindyv321's awesome Mini Christmas Scene inspired me to post a Christmas project I finished a while back.   This hutch came from Gypsy Soul Laser Cuts and was very easy to assemble.  The top shelf has a tiny Christmas tree, some porcelain mice I bought at Disney World when they first opened, a book of bedtime stories and a snowman snow globe I made out of poly clay.  The middle shelf contains a jar of starlight mints I made from poly clay, a tiny tea set, a tin of Christmas cookies and a JOY sign made from painted scrabble tiles.  The bottom shelf holds a glitter house village made from poly clay.  The della robbia spray has poly clay oranges and nail art fruit slices.

The wreath is made from beads and nail art glitter I found at Dollar Tree.

The drawer opens and contains boxes of miniature Christmas tree decorations, including lights, tinsel, icicles and ornaments.
2  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / A Big Improvement on: June 14, 2017 07:21:48 AM
We've been on a spring cleaning binge for the past week or two and came across this print in our attic.  It was something our family inherited but isn't really our style.  I did a little research on it to determine if it has any value and came up empty.  We didn't want to get rid of it and didn't want it hanging in our living room.  I decided to figure out a way to improve it without damaging it just in case it is valuable.

Here's what I came up with.  Grin  The dragon is an image cut from paper and is just laid on top of the print, not glued.  The frame holds it in place.  Now it's truly something we're happy to display.
3  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Homemade Egg Rolls on: June 11, 2017 08:30:59 AM
Because of living so remotely, if we want something special for dinner I have to make it.  We felt like having egg rolls last night.  Luckily I found egg roll wrappers at WalMart so decided to give it a try.  It ended up being easier than I imagined.

I started by sauteing shredded cabbage, carrots, minced garlic and sliced snow peas in a little olive oil until the vegetables were softened.  I would have included bean sprouts if I could find any around here.

I added a splash of white wine, 2 T. oyster sauce and 2 T. soy sauce to the softened vegetables.  I was going to make veggie egg rolls but remembered I had a dozen shrimp available so I sauteed those separately then chopped them up.

I mixed a T. of cornstarch with a T. of water then added it to the vegetables and cooked that for about a minute until it thickened.

I added the chopped shrimp to the vegetable mixture and placed a few spoonfuls on a wrapper.

It gets folded up like an envelope then rolled upwards.  A bit of water at the top of the wrapper makes it stick to itself.  These were fried for a few minutes on each side in 1/2 inch of oil set on medium high.

My favorite dipping sauce is a T. of soy sauce, a T. of rice wine vinegar, a splash of sesame oil and a clove of minced garlic.
4  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Pottery, Ceramics, etc: Completed Projects / Small Dishes on: May 28, 2017 05:14:09 PM
I adore kiln opening day!  I've been experimenting with a new glaze and made a few small dishes to show it off.  The round one is about 2 inches across.

7  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Pee Wee Big Top on: April 01, 2017 07:13:42 AM
As opposed to Big Top Pee Wee.  Here's a teeny project I made using HO scale figures.  The ringmaster is commanding his dancing bear who's balancing on top of a colorful bead.   Smiley  The circus posters are from a U.S. stamps catalog of a set of commemorative circus stamps they circulated a year or two ago.

8  SEWING IN GENERAL / Machine Embroidery: Completed Projects / Moon Phase Scarf on: January 01, 2017 10:52:42 AM
I got out my embroidery machine to make a few holiday gifts this year, including this moon phase winter scarf.  The material is a very soft wool blend.  My original plan was to make it into an infinity scarf but it wouldn't lay right so I went to plan B.   Smiley

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Chocolate Frog Wizard Card Ornaments on: December 13, 2016 02:07:58 PM
I sent these as extras for my partners in the Harry Potter Holidays swap this year.  Chocolate frog cards featuring one of their favorite wizards.  I found the card templates online.  The hardest part was cutting out the window where I secured the wizard photos.    Cheesy

10  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Miniature Wicked Fireplace on: October 27, 2016 09:46:10 AM
This little miniature was based off of a full size decorated mantle I found while cruising Pinterest.  The owl is sculpted out of polymer clay and there's a potion brewing in the fireplace.  Thanks for looking!  Angry
