1  Help! How can I make this thrift store dress fit me? in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by GimmickAndBeasties on: July 10, 2010 06:31:47 PM
Guys, I'm feeling pretty lame right now.  I really hope someone can help me out with this conundrum  Undecided
I bought this awesome albeit weirdly designed Gap dress at a thrift store, foolishly thinking that tailoring it would be a breeze. WRONG.
Check it out.
It's a tube-shaped dress that's strung on a ribbon.

Cute, right?  But the thing is a bleeping sack when worn because there's NO darting and it's basically just hanging from the ribbon (which was gathered in the back, sewn in place and then pulled through the front rolled hem and tied to create the straps and ribbon front.) *sigh*
Here's what it looks like on me:

Very upsetting indeed.
Here's what it looks like flat, pulled to its full width:

So whaddya think?  I was mulling over the idea of back darts but have never tried them before and have NO clue how to go about that.  The armpit area fits perfectly so I don't want to just take the side seams in and muss that all up.
Please help! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
