11  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / From Ugly To Fancy on: October 15, 2014 08:49:22 AM
I painted this cat on a cushion for whatthepuck in the, "Mini 13 Days of Halloween" swap.  It was the ugliest white cat, sloppily painted.  Because whatthepuck likes black cats and purple, I painted the cat black, the ribbon around it's neck and the cushion purple, the tassels pink, and the ropes to the tassels gold.  Another thrift store find/treasure.  Now that I've scored a couple of times, I've been on the look out for more ugly finds to turn into beautiful treasures.  Smiley
12  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / It's a bird, it's a plane, no it's skelecat!!!! on: October 14, 2014 07:59:28 PM
I'm so goofy!   Grin  I painted this DOD cat for whatthepuck in the, "Mini 13 Days of Halloween" swap.  It was the ugliest terra cotta looking cat before I painted it.  I had to pull off an ugly dusty ribbon w/an ugly dusty silk flower attached to it.  I lucked out, and the glue came right off w/it.  Lots and lots and lots of layers of black spray paint.  A real labor of love.

13  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Vintage Halloween Shrine on: October 14, 2014 07:03:40 PM
I made this vintage Halloween shrine for cabaute in the, "Vintage Halloween" swap.  When I found this wooden display box at Goodwill, I knew I was going to make into some kind of a shrine.  I hand drew the cat, the bat, the moon, and the little witch.  I drew them on water color paper because it's stiff.  Then I colored them w/colored pencils.  Except for the moon.  I drew his face w/pencil.  The images came from cabaute's pinterest.  I looked up a vintage image for the moon.  The background is an image my oldest son gave me of outer space.  I made the little broom the witch is holding from a stick and some straw I had.  I used acorns I collected last year.  The back is decopauged w/leaves that I collected from our tree in the front yard, and pressed and dried last year.  I had so much fun making it!  I can't wait to make more!   Grin

14  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Bats in the Belfry! on: October 14, 2014 06:55:15 PM
Well, maybe not in the belfry.  And, it's only one bat on a wreath.  I made this wreath for cabaute in the, "Vintage Halloween" swap.  She had an image of the bat pinned to her pinterest. I hand drew the bat onto watercolor paper because it's stiff.  I colored it w/ colored pencils, and cut it out.  I wrapped the foam wreath form w/strips of vintage looking Halloween fabric. Then, I glued the bat onto it.  Pretty pleased w/myself as my drawing skills seem to be improving. I forgot how much I love to draw.   Grin
15  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Something Witchy This Way Comes on: October 14, 2014 06:46:30 PM
I made this witch rag doll for cabaute in the, "Vintage Halloween" swap.  I really love the way she turned out!  She's pretty big too.  1st I reduced the pattern, traced it, then put it in my tracer machine, and super duper enlarged the pattern.  I just don't sew small very well.  I feel like she has a 50's child vibe.  I hope you all enjoy her as much as I enjoyed making her.  I know cabaute loves her.   Grin
16  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / A much loved cat=Another Pet Portrait on: October 05, 2014 02:46:03 PM
whatthepuck's beloved cat, Muggie passed away suddenly and unexpectedly, at the beginning of the, "Mini 13 Days of Halloween Swap".  She and I are partners.  I felt very bad for her.  So, I asked her for a photo and some info.  As a surprise, I drew a pet portrait of Muggie for her.  Once again, done in oil pastel crayons.  Now, I'm in desperate need of brown, black, and white oil pastel crayons!   Grin  I really seem to burn through those colors!   Cheesy
17  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Stuffed Animal Swap on: October 02, 2014 11:36:01 AM
Maybe amigurumi makers could be paired w/sewn stuffed animal makers?
18  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Weekend Halloween Swap? on: October 02, 2014 08:24:31 AM
Anyone want to organize a weekend Halloween swap?  kittykill said she probably won't have time to do so this year.  I just can't get enough Halloween!!!   Grin
19  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Rose, My very 1st poppet on: August 27, 2014 05:34:22 PM
I made this poppet for mamarose in the Poppet vs. Amigurumi swap.  It was my 1st time ever making a poppet.  I'm pretty proud of her.  I didn't think I'd like making poppets, but, I had a lot of fun making her.  My partner's themes were cats and roses.  2 ideas popped into my head as soon as I saw her themes.  I pictured this poppet, which I named Rose in honor of her new mother.  She is, in fact a rose.  I cut petals from red felt and hand sewed them to her head for her "hair".  Then I cut leaves from green felt and hand sewed them to her body for her "clothes".  Thought I was pretty clever.  I didn't have to make her a wig or clothes.  I suck at making clothes.  Sad  The strings that I sewed and knotted around her ankles are supposed to represent roots.  I tried really hard to make her look more like a flower, rather than a poppet/person.  Her facial features are simple.  I hope you all enjoy her, as much as I enjoyed making her.  I think I'll make more poppets in the future.   Grin
20  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / I've been at it again, 2 more pet portraits 2 very loved pooches on: August 26, 2014 08:46:04 AM
I made these 2 pet portraits for alwaysinmyroom for the IYP Swap Round 26.  The black lab is Bear, and the husky mix is her late pooch love, Rowdy, who is now an angel in heaven.  Once again I used oil pastels.  I hope you all enjoy them.
