1  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Folded Gumwrapper and Magazine Dress help on: January 16, 2010 05:30:01 PM
So I've decided to make a dress for an art competition at my school and maybe a dance (if I ever go to one, lol). I'm having issues with deciding what pattern would be best because I'm making it out of folded gum wrappers and magazines. I'm going to sew them together to make them stay connected (i'm good at hand sewing....my sewing machine....hates me). The material itself is pretty stable and flexible but I'm worried about what pattern would work well.

See a strapless dress wouldn't work because of support issues (and I'm pretty uh...top heavy with the boobs, enhanced by the fact that I'm really skinny)

So out of these patterns which would you think would be best for the dress? Considering I'm a bit inexperienced:

Personally I like the first one but I don't know...

I have acrylic sealer that I plan to spray on it to stay waterproof. But do any of you guys have any advice? On anything? Like is reinforcing with hot glue a good idea or am i just asking for trouble there.

OH and I was thinking about knitting some plarn (plastic bag yarn) and using it somehow, but I just have no ideas...the hem? trimming? A bow? I don't know...

Frankly some word that I'm not insane for doing this would be great. Oh and if you know any other free patterns I could use that would work out better, that would be awesome. Cos oy....making a pattern was not as easy as I thought...nor finding a decent pattern.
