1781  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Felt Badge Swap Gallery!! (Send Out April 30) on: May 01, 2012 10:57:33 AM
I gasped at the lantern fish and then started excitedly babbling to myself when I scrolled down and saw the lighting-up. Then I scrolled further down and everyone is squealing and exclaiming exactly as I was! It's just like being in the same room with you all!

I'm probably going to join, but I'll have to see what my swap volume is like by the middle of the month or so. Thanks for the long sign-up to accommodate us indecisive ones!

1783  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Embroidered rainbow hoop clock on: May 01, 2012 10:23:15 AM
That is nice, and the hoop clock is such a good idea. I only recently tried embroidering on felt (for the Felt Badge Swap) and loved it. The evenness of the felt fibres doesn't push your stitches around the way woven cloth does.

Of course ordinary craft felt doesn't have a lot of strength, especially once you've punched it full of tiny needle-holes. I bought some wool-blend felt and it was much better to work with. And of course for anything larger you could back it with cotton or some other lightweight cloth for strength.

And I especially like the way the colours work against black. It reminds me I must try more of that myself.

Amazing job, I am so jealous of your knitting/crocheting

I know, me too! I've been imagining what I'd do with the knitted pentacle panel if it were mine.

I love the bee and hive too, Lime. Especially your choice of colours, which I always have trouble with. That brown is perfect with the yellow and white.

I don't think I knew about the HRP movie, though I remember seeing the TV show. Mama Cass? Wow! And Witchypoo's house is great - it'd be great as a garden shed.

My megalomaniacal idea was to make a matchbox that was embedded in a tree, as if the tree had grown around it. I was going to find a dead tree with a suitable knothole, cut out a manageable section, carefully split it in two, make an opening for the box and glue the halves back together again so Cackle would have to use an axe to get the matchbox out. But I've moved on to less weighty plans.

That Goddess shawl is amazing! Is that a pattern that's available, Radmom, or did you create it? Not that I can knit at all, let alone well enough to do that!

And I really like your idea about making a shadow box with eight divisions for the sabbats, Quasior. Actually it would be easier to use a nine-box frame with the eight sabbats in order around the outside and the centre for something else. (Now that I've said that, it seems like such a good idea I may have to put it right into my "to do" file!)

Like...I still have that sparkly new-witch smell, I'm that new.

Cheesy You can buy that as an aerosol body spray now, I've heard!

You heard your Maman, fence-sitters: hop down on our side and join in! Let's make this the biggest WWP swap this year!

Looking back over the Round 1 Gallery, I remembered that there was a new-found male member in that swap too. I wonder what happened to muyhippie - I liked his stuff.

Looking forward to getting partners and getting started. I've already jotted down several great ideas that I will do regardless of what else my partner wants, but I really want to get going on the main course, especially as I'm going to be starting my summer holiday on Tuesday.

Coral has been a protective (anti-Evil Eye) charm for babies and children all over the world. That's probably what the Swedish-American charm is for, too. American Girl probably just didn't want to have to explain the Evil Eye! Cheesy
