91  Re: Hand-Carved Stamp Swap--Round 5 (Signups 1/5 to 1/31; SEND OUT 3/1) in The Swap Gallery by Wulf on: February 27, 2014 04:34:57 PM
Koreena sent me an entire set of stamps in a lovely tin.

I love the simple designs of these. I'm never able to do this kind of stamp - mine always end up having too many fine lines!

Thanks, Koreen!

92  Re: Artist Trading Block Swap (ATBS) Gallery in The Swap Gallery by Wulf on: February 20, 2014 09:33:01 AM
Was I the last to receive? I'm sorry I didn't make inquiries while I was away - I could have at least reassured everyone that it'd arrived, even if I still had to wait to see the fabulousness inside. And then I had to wait a bit longer while I read the lovely three page letter that came with it, explaining the process that led to the block's creation, the origin and significance of some of the material it, and lots more.

And it was SO worth the wait...

Linda has identified me very accurately here - I'm not an artist, not really a crafter, I make things! I love the colour of this old map background, and the crazy-looking hat on the top is actually a cabinet handle. The feet are mis-matched rusty screws (carefully positioned so it stands up - couldn't have been easy) and there are rusty nails around the sides.

The sides are beautifully weathered and distressed to match the rusty hardware. One side has an old gate hook on it, which is there to make the piece "interactive".

The hinge is the feature on the other side, with a very important-looking spring below it. But why exactly is there a hinge at all?

Because the entire front swings open! Shocked And inside is more of the map (1966 Philadelphia), with annotations, and on the other side a beautifully antiqued photo of me wearing my pixie hat knitted for me by MamanTattoo in last year's Yule Present swap. This is such a great surprise when you open it up!

The back of the block has another treat - a tiny pair of pliers - and the rest of the vintage measuring tape.

I love this SO MUCH! It's my absolute favourite thing right now. I loved the stories in your letter, Linda, and I can't believe you sort of threw it together at the last minute as you claimed. You've nailed (no pun intended) my taste and interests so perfectly!

So I guess that's it - no more wonderful blocks to look forward to in the gallery. For now...

93  Re: Fabric Art Journal Pages Swap Round 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by Wulf on: February 11, 2014 07:57:25 AM
I FINALLY got my package from cmarion3 today. We haven't received any mail for about a week, so I knew something was up. Sure enough, today the mailbox was stuffed with letters and packages that had been accumulating somewhere.

I made a page about birch trees for heini in the last swap, and now I get one of my own:

I love how the silhouettes of the trees are actually cut away to the backing fabric. Those are actual birch twigs wrapped in thread, and cmarion3 says she had to search to find them. Cheesy

There are seed beeds and French knots scattered over the surface, and even a few tiny, tiny gears!

And right down at the bottom, it says "B I R C H"! It's like a secret message woven into the fabric.

But that wasn't all! It was so worth the wait, because she also included two great ATC backgrounds and a beautiful painted, stamped and collaged card!

Thanks so much for this! I absolutely love it - you've somehow completely got inside my head and nailed all my favourite things in one little rectangle!

94  Re: The Loyal Mutant Swap of 2014!! Send out Friday Feb. 14 2014 in ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED by Wulf on: February 10, 2014 07:31:44 PM
Yes, thank you for the tubing you transported to me, Heir Verbosity, it worked beautifully. I'm sorry the genetic material I sent in return wasn't as successful. I'm afraid a bit of my lunch might have got mixed up in it. Hope the result was interesting, at least.

I'm so close to done! I'm just waiting for a coat of paint to dry before I seal up the last bits. But I've been giggling hysterically to myself for the last half hour, which is a very good sign.

95  Re: WWP Round 47 Gallery - Goddess Shrine Swap (Sendout 1/26/2014) in The Swap Gallery by Wulf on: February 05, 2014 06:49:33 PM
I got a wonderful shrine from phnxreign99 yesterday. I included Celtic goddesses on my list, and she suggested Arianrhod.

I love how abstract this shrine is. Arianrhod was called the Goddess of the Silver Wheel, and was associated with the constellation Corona Borealis (which is called "Caer Arianrhod" in Welsh.) There are silver wheels - rings - on chains, and lots of stars, including the constellation itself.

She included lots of extras too - silver candles (the star-shaped one sheds glitter promiscuously!) and a sweet little star-shaped holder. The sheep fridge magnets are for Imbolc, and the little sun charm has beads of garnet, turquoise and amethyst.

Thanks so much for this, Tammy. I hope you like your package as much as I do!

To help pass the time while waiting for partners, here's the "warm-up" stamps I carved, to use on something for another swap.

I do think I think that Wulf is the only participant who might have maybe said "Smalltacular is bestter.."....or something like that....

I may never have said it before, but I have now.

A sneak peek at what's NOT on the slab. These are some the leftover parts that didn't make the cut. So to speak.

Thanks for the video link, Ludi. I'll see your Farnsworth and raise you an Igor. http://youtu.be/m7-bMBuVmHo

99  Re: Fabric Art Journal Pages Swap - Send out December 16 in The Swap Gallery by Wulf on: December 30, 2013 06:51:07 PM
I finally received my page from Heini! I was getting a bit worried, but it was so worth the wait!

I absolutely love the little gnome, with his fuzzy white beard. (Rather like my own, in fact.) Cheesy The flower buttons and bluebells give a promise of spring that's much needed at this time of the year! And finally, I really like the way you've left so much extra fabric around the edges. This is very smart, because it gives lots of room for me to finish it however I want. I wish I'd thought of that - I'm afraid I cut your page exactly to size, Heini!

WWP Round 47 - Goddess Shrine Swap
The Goddess Shrine Gallery

To celebrate the festival of Imbolc or Candlemas at the beginning of February, we're going to swap shrines to our favourite goddesses. No Pagan, Wiccan or witchy person ever had too many shrines in their house, and we could all do with just one more to make it perfect! Cheesy

For this swap we're going to exchange one small to medium-sized shrine (nothing too large because of postal costs) honouring a goddess of our partner's choosing. This festival marks the point where the Lady, having given birth to the Lord at Yule, returns in her virgin form. The goddess most associated with Imbolc is Brighid or Bride, but it is also very suitable for many other Maiden or Mother goddesses.

Do you need to be a Wiccan, Witch or Pagan to join this swap? No, not at all! You have to be comfortable swapping with someone who may be, but really you just need to have a love of shrines and a favourite goddess! To join the swap, PM this questionnaire to Wulf. You must also be willing to participate here in the swap thread, and post photos of the shrine you receive. (If you can't do that for some reason, please make sure your partner knows ahead of time.)
