3601  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Re: Car organizer on: July 08, 2010 06:25:57 PM
Hi Kraftykat! Thanks so much.  Cheesy

I got the idea from another Craftster, so I don't mind sharing at all.  I put the sticky side on the fabric and got it all smooth, put another piece of fabric on top of it and lightly ironed it - no steam.  The first time I tried it, I ironed way too long and it got all crinkly.  I think it should work out pretty well for wipeable stuff, but I wouldn't put it in the washing machine or anything.  A hair dryer would probably work even better though since there's no direct heat.  Hmm, I'll have to try that next time!

For the Geezer swap, I made my partner an organizer that goes on the back of the seat in her car.  It has several pockets of different sizes, included a pen pocket and enough pockets for maps and travel books.

It has straps to go around the headrest and to attach to something under the seat so it doesn't flap away in the car.  It's lined with interfacing on both sides so it should stay flat, especially if the top is hooked to something with two "points" (like the headrest - it doesn't just come to a single point like the picture below, but rather it makes a trapezoid with a flattish top).

I also made her a matching trash bag for the car - the inside is lined in the accent fabric coated with clear contact paper that was (very carefully) melted onto it so it can be wiped out after sticky stuff.

Since rottenlittleboys received on Monday, I'm going to post some pictures of what I sent her since I know she's really busy! Smiley  She said she really liked everything, so yaaay!

The main attraction: a car organizer (which is hanging on my front door).  Her favorite colors are pink and black, so I chose a black base with a black-and-pink flowers on white accent, with pink trim. Smiley  I hope it fits well into her car!

And of course, you can't make an organizer for the car without making a matching trash bag.  The inside is lined with the flowered fabric with clear contact paper melted onto it to give it some wipe-ability.

And since her #1 request was for a shrine, and since my skills do not extend to that (as I discovered), I bought her a little buddha.

And here's everything together:

It was a lot of fun crafting for you, rottenlittleboys!  Smiley

Ohhh! I want to see what you're working on! Why don't you start the thread this week? I'm sure lapoli wouldn't mind.

I started a thread for this week!  Come show us your WIPs!

Okay, lapoli has graciously let me start the thread for this week. Cheesy  I totally dropped the ball last week and didn't post my WIP, so I'm all excited to do it this week!  (We won't get into the gray wrap that I'm STILL working on ... ah well.)

So I'm giving my grandfather a pair of hand-knit socks for Christmas.  Knowing how slow I am to get things done, I started last week.  (I hope the fact that I'm making them for someone other than me will get me to finish them a bit more quickly!) This is my first pair of socks and I'm somewhat dreading the next step (eep, the heel flap!)

Anyway, I've got the cuffs done and a few rows of the leg.  They don't look like much yet, but I'm terribly happy with how they're turning out!  I got the yarn at the MD Sheep and Wool Festival and it's lovely.  I've decided to knit them row by row, two at a time because I see the future where I've got one done and have to do the second and am unenthused by the prospect. Cheesy

So what are you all working on?
