1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Moby Dick embroidery for Dad on: December 24, 2016 11:33:48 AM
Aww thanks for all the compliments everyone! I'm pleased to reported the gift was a hit!

I gave it to my dad yesterday and he happily muttered the quote to himself and then immediately hung it up on the wall next to his computer.

Hope you're all having a great holiday Smiley
2  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Moby Dick embroidery for Dad on: December 18, 2016 10:03:38 AM
Made this for my dad for Christmas, he loves Moby Dick! Pattern is from UrbanThreads, they have a whole set of tattoo-style art with book quotes. Stitched on linen (used Sulky Solvy to see the lines), using a mix of split stitch and stem stitch.

I marathoned half a season of Dirk Gently and Z Nation finishing it yesterday and didn't want to get the sewing machine out, so I turned under the edges and hand-stitched in place with a blind hem stitch.

Wow! Beautiful work, the details are just wonderful. I'm sure she'll treasure it.

Aaah!! I'm so glad it arrived, I've only sent letters to Canada before and the lack of delivery confirmation was starting to stress me out. The wrinkles from me cramming everything into the smallest box possible should come out with one quick steam iron (you can put a thin piece of fabric or a presscloth over the embroidery just in case).

A couple quick notes about care (you probably already know all this): the material is cotton with cotton batting inside, and is prewashed so you should be able to machine wash it no problem (I'd probably wash it on delicate or warm...but I wash everything I own on that anyway). There's insul-bright in the potholders but I'm pretty sure that is also washable.

I'm glad you like it, I had so much fun making them! The potholders are adapted from a Martha Stewart pattern for heart-shaped potholders, I found I really like the way they stay on your hands. I also discovered by accident that if you drape the apron over a chair it looks pretty amusing:

Haha, that LSP bag is genius! Hoping my partner gets her package soon...it's been 2 weeks, but I guess international mail is known to take forever?

I'm sooooo tempted by this swap! But...I'm worried that once I finish my journal I won't want to give it away. Undecided

Aaah, me too! I don't normally have much issue with that but I feel like it would be worse since I'm just starting out and I don't usually get around to journaling every day.
