11  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Mini 12 Days of Christmas 2015 (sign up 7-26-17 to 8-10-15; s/o 11-23-15) on: November 08, 2015 12:34:40 PM
One thing I would do differently...not sure on this one.  Maybe get my cards done and sent before Christmas eve  Smiley

I am almost all done.  I have two small and one medium to finish off.  I should be able to send next week!

Sorry I've been absent...I've been sick  Undecided  Haven't done much crafting until today.  I am almost done except one medium that I can't do until the stores have more Christmas items out.

SO I missed a bunch of questions:

my favorite toy was a dollhouse.  It is a beautiful memory
I don't do white elephant stuff
I craft all year for Christmas because I get lazy near the holidays.

I like snow for about 5 minutes then I am all done.  I lived in the snow belt in central new york for too many years. I love living in florida!

Things are coming along well.  Have 2 large, 1 med and 4 smalls done. Just had a very fun trip to Hobby Lobby!
14  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Can you stain a couch? Why yes you can! on: September 24, 2015 03:49:56 PM
Due to a horrific flea infestation I had to get rid of our couch.  It was a tough blow because money is never in abundance in our house.  So I started looking on craigslist hoping someone needed to get rid of their nice couch.  I happened upon a couch for $20 that came from a pet free and smoke free home.  It was ugly beyond belief (see 2nd picture) but I figured that with pintrest's help I'd find a way to make it beautiful. I loaded up the hubby and went to get it.  The couch turn out to be a florida couch (very low to the ground and small).  I convinced the hubby to pay the $20 and off we went.  When we got it in the house the fabric was even worse than I thought.  The low to the ground part was not working for me either.  I lived with it for exactly 19 hours before I had to change it.  I had recently bought some weathered grey wood stain for a table redo.  I thought why can't I stain the couch instead of painting it? I went on Pintrest and found a few examples that look like they worked so the stain came out and the paint clothes went on.

The final product. I was pleasantly surprised when the pattern came through in a purple/red color.

The original couch

After I finished the very messy stain job I got the hubby to add some legs.  Thankfully I had taken some off a table I saw on the side of the road.

The fabric turned out feeling like outdoor furniture fabric which works well for our messy house...easy cleaning.  It is still very comfortable to lay on.

I would recommend this project if you need a cheap way to redo a piece of furniture.

Not opening all the presents at once is hard but I try to hold out.

Stockings are the very best!  I rather have a stocking than a large gift.  Each year we all (5 sisters 2 parents and 3 husbands) buy each other one stocking gift. It makes for a wide range of items.  The husbands go for the candy because its easy. One of my sisters gives all the girls earrings and the guys golf balls that are funny.  Another sister always makes everyone an ornament (they are AWESOME).  My other sister lives in Scotland so she always gives something scottish. Last year we all got loch ness monster magnets. Another sister always gives a wind up toy.  My youngest sister changes what she gives every year.  Last year we all got funny fuzzy socks.  My parents always give maple sugar candy and some fun thing they find at the fair.  Last year we all got alligator jerky. I always give something homemade.  Last year everyone got a reindeer shaped washcloth with a homemade piece of soap inside.

Once again a medium craft is turning into a large (ex-tra large actually) but its turning out AWESOME. I'm rethinking the other crafts because I can't keep making ex-large crafts  Undecided

Favorite Christmas song...if I have to choose just one I would say ave maria by vienna boys choir.  I always thought that they were really angels singing when I heard it as a child.

I have at long last finished my medium to large to huge craft.  I am totally alright with it being a huge because it turned out so well that all those hours mean nothing!  I kind of wish I could keep it...I guess I could keep it and no one would be the wiser but I wouldn't.  I have changed the list of what I am going to make at least 30 times now.  I really need to be kept away from pintrest.

Christmas treat....hmmm do I only get to choose one? I'm a sweets girl through and through. I am going to have to choose the blueberry cheesecake my older sister makes. It's actually a recipe passed down by my grandmother who found the recipe in Good housekeeping years ago. I've tried to make it but it's never as good as my sister's.

I have my final list of the 12 presents. I'm still working on my extra huge medium that has been upgraded to a large. I did finish a fun small one today.

I am currently working on a medium that is actually a extra huge large...glad to read I am not the only one who does this.  I love how it is turning out so its all good.

I've had a wonderful time reading everyones' Christmas traditions!  Our only tradition now is we open gifts Christmas eve because none of us are morning people.   Smiley
