3091  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: My first yarn! on: March 15, 2011 09:19:33 AM
This makes me happy for several reasons:
1) you did so good! Joining just takes some work, you'll get it.
2) Thick and thin is my favorite. Hang around here long enough and you'll hear all the "experienced" spinners saying how they wish they could go back to beginners thick and thin sometimes. Not me, though, I'm still there. I don't know if I'll grow out of it but that's cool, it makes a great texture when you work it up!
3) New spinner! Fresh Meat! I love it! Share your excitement! Don't miss our Fiber Friday threads, they are my favorites.

You other guys need to take it off your to-learn lists and just learn it already! It's wonderful! Join us! Join us and together we can rule the universe!

:-\Or it could be the pain meds with the antinausa meds ROTFL.. Cool
That makes so much more sense! I've been worried about you. Your posts are kind of, um, misshapen (?) lately. Hurray for drug mixing!

I know I'm already in, but an update nonetheless. The merino/bamboo that was on my bobbin I finished and Navajo plied this weekend, then I spun up the other 2oz of the roving trying for thick  but managed a thick and thin. Man, I don't know if it was the bamboo or what but that stuff would NOT let me spin it thick! Sucks, it would have made a great fluffy yarn. I've heard of steaming it to set, maybe I will try that? I plied it with white sewing thread so I guess it's not bad. Actually, my husband really likes it. I also grabbed a bunch of my Sheep Shed roving and spun/Navajo plied (I love that method) some white/blue variegated. I didn't get any bumps of fleece done this weekend because i ran into a bunch that had a lot of lanolin still in it so I scoured it some more and let it dry, but I did get 6 more bumps done TODAY. Yeah, it was much faster too! Only about 20 min/bump rather than 30. Sweet! OK, that's all. My husband doesn't understand that while I'm typing I can't focus on him and this so I'm sure I've typoed plenty!

I almost did this, but decided you can be the swaps biggest dork. For now.
3095  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Great Big Swirlie Swap Gallery on: March 14, 2011 06:23:20 PM
So that means we have just one more that needs to receive? Sweet! I think this would have been a really big swap if it had been timed better. A lot of people said they would have joined but had no space. So are we going to do it again?

She made you a basket?! That's so rad. Hey, I think I have some tutes bookmarked for making baskets. I should try it some time. Maybe on the next Swirlie round?

I love it when a swap thread reached 100 pages! I think this one did it faster than the last round even though we're what, 4 swappers less? Sweet!  Grin
3097  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Amigurumi Addiction 2 (send April 11) on: March 14, 2011 11:19:32 AM

I still have some other swaps I have to finish before I really get cranking on this one. Soon though!!

Yup, me too. I haven't ever started stitching my hoops yet! *gasp!* And I have a personal swap that I am itching to do. I don't want hoops! I want hooks! *sigh* I will get them started today so I can bust a move with my hooks soon. VERY soon.

I finished spinning up my bamboo/merino blend January Spinning the Seasons yesterday but I still want to ply it. I did the first 2 oz reallt thin because that's all it would let me but I tried doing the rest thicker and it didn't work. It fought me the whole way, so Have a thick and thin. I'm digging it, I just need to ply it. I heard setting the twist with steam makes it plump, I may have to see if I can try that.

I've not been doing any spinning these last few days. My tendinitis caught up to me and I could no longer draft. Tongue I'm planning to start up again tonight, though, as my wrist is feeling more its usual self.
This seems to be contagious. Had another doctor's appointment today and am not allowed to do anything (no typing either... *coughs*). Just wanted to tell you: Hope you'll feel better soon! And spin more cool yarns! But be careful, don't strain it too much...  Undecided

(My right wrist has been stiff for weeks/months, I can't bend it the way I should be able to. My fingers look like a claw sometimes. And they told me that it might stay this way. Yeah. So much for "I'll start knitting socks again as soon as I can".)

3099  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday: March 11 on: March 12, 2011 08:01:11 AM
As I like using natural products, I'd also like to dye some of my white fleece with natural pigments. Does anyone have tips/websites on plants/fruits/other that would be useful?

Try Resurrection Fern. She dyes with naturals all the time, I'm sure browsing her blog will give me many great tips.

OSPREY WIFE I love plying with thread, too. I just spun up some thick and thin bamboo/merino yesterday and I think it's getting some white thread to go with it. It makes it all wavy!

LAUGHING LARK I love those colors! They do look like a sunset, or a really yummy frozen treat! SHERBET! Mm, I haven't had breakfast yet!

And Angry Hippie, as always, you make me happy. That giant yarn would make a fun rug, but I don't know how it would hold up to wear.

Like I said in the FF (that seemed to have gotten started really early today!) I have 2 yarns in the works, one spindling and one wheeling, but I'm not going to post pics until I finish them. I do have my updated photo of bumps however:

I've been trying for at least 3/day, or to average 3 a day, and this week I got 26, which is over average. I manages 3+ every day until yesterday, when I only got 2. It is starting to hurt my pulling finger, though. Maybe I need to wear some protection? *snicker* I think a bandaid might do the trick, so I'll try that today. If not I don't know. gloves will NOT work, I'm too tactile for gloves.

I'm also saving all my "waste." We decided it would work great as stuffing, so I want to make a BIG dragon to stuff with it, because it would be fitting. Dragons eat sheep right...? I have so much already!

I don't know how I'm doing on my over all goal this month, Each time I pull some wool out of the box I have it in, it just expands to fill the gap! That's what happens, eh? And I didn't weigh it so no help there. I guess if I really wanted to be difficult I could weight the bumps, the waste, and what I Have left to do but meh, I'm not too worried about it. I don't think I will get it all this month. Can I live with that?
