2351  GLASS CRAFTS / Glass Crafts: Completed Projects / Olivian Mermaid on: February 05, 2012 06:20:31 AM
I was in a pinup swap a while ago and was officially introduced to the work of Olivia. I fell in love with this piece and it may be the only image that has ever inspired me to make 2 things from it. The other thing is still a WIP, but this one just took one day. I've had the stuff long enough, though, so it may as well have taken a year and a half. This was part of my Crafting ADD that overtook me when my husband was out of town last weekend.

the mirror with frame is about 18"x24" so the image is about 20 inches long. Used the contact paper method for etching. I was really worried about her face and hands but I think they came out OK.

My question: what to do with it? Can't hang it with a growing 5yo boy in the house. Can't mail it. Well, I guess I could but I would be super worried about my packaging job and I would need a really bug box and who would I mail it to? Can't sell it, legally. Don't know anyone I would be able to gift it to... What to do? I really don't want her to just spend her existence crammed between my dresser and the wall, ya know?
2352  FIBER ARTS / Felting: Completed Projects / Silhouette Hoop on: February 04, 2012 08:13:26 PM
So for the latest Hoopla round we chose silhouettes as the theme and I could not get away from the idea of doing one needle felted. I LOVE how it came out. This may be the first time I have posted something I made for a swap. I really want to do the other hoop I signed up for as a needle felting as well but I feel like I would be cheating my other partner. So torn! When I was done I put some fabric glue on the back just because I'm terrified of it coming undone. I know you more experienced Felters say it's not necessary but I am paranoid so there you.

The pattern was a free paper cutting pattern from Cindy Ferguson. Here she is:

And a close up:

And just for fun, this is how the foam pad looked after I finished her:

I really enjoy this craft! Q,C&C welcome!

Nik, I love seeing people try new things. This is no exception, beautiful! How fun for you.

MLF, What kind of wool is all of this?  It is all lovely. What are you going to do with it? Will we be seeing anything on the FO post?

Hurrah! My hoop was the first up in the gallery! And you all liked it, you really liked it. I'm so happy. It was a lot of fun to make.

You got another J name over here and I'm loving OGDs hooping, as always.

I like how the first 2 hoops we got one good example of each--negative space and silhouette.

I got claimed! That's so exciting! Now I have even more motivation to finish these other things and get going on this one.

I know this joke has probably already been made somewhere but I just thought of it last night so I think it's funny:

We're a bunch of pinheads! AHAHAHA!

I made one for a swap! I thought you might like to know.

Those look like they would be very easy to make. It's no wonder they were so well loved! I bet I could make up a pattern for that if I wanted... If it wasn't already in the 70sF here. Maybe next year?

What does you gaming group play?

I'm really excited to start making claims on people but I really should finish some other stuff first, like my sisters' birthday presents and the other 2 swaps I'm in. Not to mention my BIL's Cmas present *snrt!* and the GIANT felting project I've been putting off for over a month. Those last 2 can wait, but this swap should be good motivation to get moving on those first few things, right? It's also my first no-partners-assigned swap so I'm sure I'll be asking lots of Qs too. Yay! Happy!
2359  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Ongoing Pinterest Swap February 2012! on: February 02, 2012 11:01:07 AM
Hey everyone! I've Jessie. I live in Roswell, NM. Please no lame jokes. Thanks!

I am a SAHM to a 5 year old boy, 2 year old girl, and a little girl who is about -5 weeks. They all love to get stuff in swaps as much as I do.

No allergies. I do have a cat and a dog, though unless you're making something for them I guess it doesn't matter too much, does it?

Not really any major dislikes. I like to think I'm pretty eclectic.

As for the whole pinterest thing: All of my boards are open except the "If I wore jewelry" board because I really don't wear jewelry, though I'm OK if you use that board for inspiration. I prefer function to form. I would really rather get something that is inspired by something on my boards rather than an exact duplicate. I'm pretty sure that's how it goes but I thought I would add that in. Supplies are cool, but I am kind of trying to destash a little so I can make room for this new kid so keep that in mind. "Supplies" off of my "Books" board would be super.

Colors and tastes: I wear a lot of blue, but like purples. Relaxing they are. I already mentioned I'm pretty eclectic elsewhere. Russ is all boy and LOVES orange. Alice is a girly tom-boy. And my husband is straight up nerd. I think that's all there is to us.
2360  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Zelda Swap Rnd 4! on: February 01, 2012 01:17:27 PM
Watching "Daddy" play Zelda is family time so this might be great. The kids would love it. I might find some crafts they could "help" with and get some things for them in return. Then again I am due with child #3 in the beginning of March so maybe I shouldn't be swapping?
