11  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / My Brother Gave Me His Wardrobe...Now What? on: January 10, 2011 10:19:05 AM
Okay, so my 19 year old brother finally realised 2 things, 1) I sew and 2) He's finally normal sized and his clothes don't really fit him.

He's 6'3 and up until recently wore size 28 or 30 pants. Also because he's so lanky he has to wear large shirts, and he gave me a bunch of tshirts he doesn't like or fit funny as well.
I have...
- 5 pairs of kakhi pants
- 3 pairs of kakhi shorts
- 2 pairs of jean pants
- 2 long sleeved tshirts (very warm!)
- 2 Polo shirts (one's uber ugly, the other's not too bad)
- A bunch of tshirts (They shouldn't be too bad to find something to do with them, but new ideas are always nice!)
My question is...What can I do with all these new clothes?

I'm a size 3 chick pants (or 28 in boy pants) and size small in shirts, if that helps.

Smiley Thank you so much!
12  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Men's Jeans To Woman...Anything! on: December 29, 2010 01:52:05 PM
So my brother finally became of normal size and now a bunch of his old jeans/kakhis don't fit him and he decided to give them to me (finally he's realised I like to sew things!) The problem is that I don't particularly like the fit of men's jeans because, well they're made for men and make me look even more ass-less than I already am!
The particular pair of pants he handed me are size 30x38 (How in the WORLD did he find 30x38 I don't now because most are 30x34 and too short) and just boring plain "Relaxed fit" pants.
I don't really want to make a tacky jean bag, but other than that I don't have any particular ideas! He plans on giving me more pants/shorts that are the same 30x34ish size. I wear size 3 in chick pants, so the pants fit if there's a way to make them fit the way chick pants do, that would be awesome as well!
13  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Sequins And A Mustache OH MY! (Picha Heavy) on: December 14, 2010 05:10:32 PM

I haven't been overly busy with sewing...And I really should be studying for my College Algebra final (meh, I'm a Junior in high school, who really needs College Algebra)...
Anyway! The school play is...ahem...2 days from now and I just now decided that MAYBE I should make a costume for the main character. She's about my size (except the top of the dress will fit better on her, it's a little loose on me), so I was going off my measurements.
SO! It started out a VERY 80's prom dress...Dark blue sequins, white...stuff with tulle...
BTW! Apologies for the crappy quality of all the pictures, my house is poorly lit and they are cell phone pichas!

After I cut all the tulle off (Horray, underwear!)

Oh, if they flag that picture (meh) with SHORTS!

I hemmed it (EVIL!) and added a spaceman silver (no like, really) skirt...It's really fun, it's high-waisted and has "lining" and is just worn under the dress (or with an awesome shirt which will happen in the future).

Next!! My best friend (and wife, we got married over the summer along with my other wife) likes mustaches! So, instead of making her just a boring shirt with a boring mustache, or a shirt with a BUNCH of mustaches (and screwing it up) I found a picture of...well this! And I like it mucho, it turned out well. It's a Ninja riding a mustache (that has a Fu Manchu mustache) with a cloud!

To show that it's off center.

And finally, my outfit for my Christmas Band Concert (that I reconned). It's a I guess prom dress that had like 4 tiers and went to the floor, so I chopped 2 off and made it a cute above-the-knee dress. And I have a creame button up shirt (silk ftw) and it said Small and apparently it meant child or something, because the sleeves went mid-forearm and the shirt went to my belly button...So I cut it to be purposely short and wore the sleeves pushed up (because I was scared to cut them, they were uber tight on me)

And to end the post...
I broke a needle hemming the sequinss (and the middle layer of fabric, and the lining)...Surprisingly it was near the end...Anyway, I had never bent a needle like this before it broke!

14  CLOTHING / Costumes: Completed Projects / Victor/Victoria Costume on: October 17, 2010 06:06:26 PM
At work we have themed days randomly and for the month of October. Our old staff would dress up and go all out...The new staff is quite boring, sadly enough. However, one suggested Fusion Weekend (after watching too many marching bands)...So I wrote it down, made it official and NO ONE DRESSED UP! Except me!
After watching an episode of Glee I decided upon a Victor-Victoria outfit! And off to the pictures!

Full outfit!

Man side.

Female side.

My makeup. (I'm proud of it gosh!)

And a before picture of the dress.

I made it out of that dress, a pair of men's pants and a light blue button up shirt. It took about an hour of actual work time.

15  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / Fabric Dye In Blonde Hair? on: September 22, 2010 05:54:53 PM
Okay, stupid question but I have to ask...
I just dyed my hair from brown/ginger to blonde...Which is totally awesome! But I just realised today when I was dying fabric (something I rarely do) that the dye stains my skin (which gave me an awesome dead blue tint) and then I was sorta scared to touch my hair.
Will fabric dye dye my light blonde hair?
16  CLOTHING / Clothing for Curvaceous Craftsters: Discussion and Questions / Making A Dress For My Very Plus-Sized Teacher! on: September 06, 2010 06:09:01 PM
Okay, I'm making 6 costumes for the Speech & Debate float for Homecoming in 3 weeks...All the females are really tiny or a little bigger than me or me, so I can plan accordingly (I try things on to make sure they look good for lack of a dress form).
My problem is that my debate teacher wants to be the Queen of Hearts and is VERY plus-sized. I'm chill wit dat yo, but...It's sorta impossible for me to try on her dress and make sure everything works right.
So...do any of you fabulous people have any tips on how to/not to make the dress? It's made out of knit fabric, its a heavy knit and it (as I found out less than 5 minutes ago) is a tube (which was fun making a giant cowl-neck dress without armholes). For the different fabric I'm using this awesome burnt-out velvet stuff...But it's see-through-ish and I only bought it because my mother was insisting I needed it even though it went with nothing.

And my teacher.

Btw, her measurements are 64, 56, 66 if that means anything.

Thank you all sooooo much!!!!
17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Homecomming Costume Help, I Need to make 6 Costumes in Less Than A Month! on: August 27, 2010 05:00:49 PM
Okay...Homecomming this year is Disney themed. For the debate float I've decided upon making all the costumes of Disney villains. Now...It's the last Friday in September and next Friday I'm going to get the fabric. I just need help with how screwed I am!

Hook. I need to know how to make highwaisted front-button pants. I have a pattern for the jacket. How do you make a ruffly shirt? I mean I presume it's simple.

Gaston. The female wearing it is UBER tiny, but I think I have this one down.

Cruella. I don't quit know how to go about this, but if I make it out of a stretchy fabric would it still be nice?

Hades. Pretty simple to make I believe.

Ursela. This one's for me. I'm planning on making it out of a jersey-type fabric so it hugs my nonexistant curves.

The Queen of Hearts. Okay, my debate teacher wants to be her and let's just say she isn't very skinny. I drew this in class and I presume I should make it better but...There will be an under-skirt portion that will be made out of heart fabric and the sleeves might be puffed and have heart fabric insets...And then there's the really big heart. But...Would he puffed sleeves look good? Here's a picture of her just so you know.

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Child-Size Lime Green Overalls Fit Me! on: August 17, 2010 08:20:00 AM
I can fit in child size XL clothes and I love overalls...So when I saw lime green overalls, I had to have them! The problem was that the straps only went to my shoulders...So I needed to make straps...I'm pretty sure I used some of my mother's vintage 70's fabric, but she hasn't noticed yet so I'm good for now.
Anyway! Here are pichas!

I don't know why my pictures are sideways...I assure you they shouldn't be! I made them normal Sad

And the fabric.

19  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Plush Moyashion Germ! SO SOFT! on: August 17, 2010 07:59:43 AM
Okay, my friend and I had both watched a live-action Japanese show about a guy who can see germs. Those germs are sooooo cute looking! I told him I would make him a doll of one of the germs!
I've never made a doll before, but my mother used to make dolls...And I make clothes all the time, so I'm good at sewing. I don't think I'll be making another doll simply because HAND SEWING IS EVIL!!!
But here's pichas! Oh yeah, he's more yellow in real life...I had to take the pictures in Sunset mode in my camera in my poorly lit room...Then I quickly edited the pichas to make them look a bit better.

It's supposed to be a cute sun with like sun rays? It's not perfect but I think it's okay looking.

The "tentacles"

AAAAAND What it's supposed to look like.

20  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Discussion and Questions / Moyashimon Plushie Toy...How Can I Make It? on: August 16, 2010 12:36:55 PM
Okay, my friend watched a Japanese show called Moyashimon: Tales of Agriculture. It's a live action show about a guy who can see germs but the germs are animated and so damn cute! I saw the show as well and wanted to make a toy of the germs.
Thank god, the Japs made a plush toy of it already! The problem is that I make clothing, sewing a toy isn't exactly the easist thing thing to me. I do know how to sew well and my mother used to make dolls, but I don't quite know exactly howto go about making the things attached to its head...My mother's getting me polar fleece, probably not the best fabric but it's all soft and such. Since I'm making this for someone else, I'd enjoy some help.

Thank you!
