21  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Kitties Tiny Book on: December 27, 2011 12:38:28 PM

I haven't posted on Craftster for ages Sad I want to make it a goal this new year to be as active as I used to be over here... So many good, uplifting, inspiring people to interact with! I've gotta start again sometime, so behold, a kitties tiny book I made for Audio!

The book page bases were cut out of cereal boxes with my cricut machine, then I covered the printed, shiny sides with paper and painted the plain brown sides.

The kitties and words were cut out of an old kids poem book for the most part. The pages are bound together using big ol' jewelry jump rings. The book measures about 2.5" if I remember properly...

I have several other tiny books that I haven't done official posts for here on Craftster... Perhaps I will sometime Smiley Thanks for looking!

Details of swap:
This swap is in the same spirit of other OTT swaps. We'll be making tiny books! Each participant will have one partner and exchange one tiny book. Books must be smaller than 4" x 4" and crafted with a high level of skill. Since you're only preparing one item, focus on the details Smiley Altered tiny books, or handbound tiny books are just fine. You'll have 3 weeks of crafting time, so make sure your book displays your very, very best effort! We want a gallery full of awesome little books.

Here's the gallery from Round One:
https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=360138.0

Because many of the tiny books can be sent in an envelope, a DC# won't be required for this swap, but you may choose to still get one if you wish. If your package for any reason becomes lost in the mail without a DC# and your partner does not receive, you will need to re-send in order to avoid negative feedback.

Make sure to notify your partner and organizer promptly as soon as you've sent and/or received, and respond to your PMs. Please post in the thread or PM the organizer at least once a week. Poor communication will be reflected in your feedback.

As the organizer, I'm reserving the right to turn away any swapper who has a history of chronic late sending or poor communication. I'd like this to be a flake free swap!

24  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Skeleton Bird Art Doll on: June 23, 2011 07:43:18 PM
I've been kinda bad at posting my projects over here on beloved Craftster! Well, might as well swing back into it Smiley

Here's the art doll (bird doll?) that I made for Lanikins in the Dia De Los Muertos/Mexican Folk art swap:

The body was sewn using the wren pattern from "The Artful Bird" which is an excellent book to have if you wanna make any shape of plush bird. I recommend it! Anyhoo, I used a canvas type fabric, then painted it black with craft acrylics once it was all sewn and stuffed. It made the body nice and solid and stiff to paint after sewing.

I cut the wings out AFTER painting, though, then glued them on. The paint really keeps the fabric from fraying... See his cool back skeleton? Smiley

The crest is a guinea feather dyed with alcohol inks.

The beak is sculpted from polyclay, baked, then glued on nice and snug!

Thanks for looking! Cheesy
25  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / One Tiny Book Round 2 on: June 12, 2011 08:17:11 PM

I'm wanting to organize another One Tiny Book swap with signups towards the middle of August... The first one was just too dang fun!

The requirements are just like other OTT (one tiny thing) swaps, where you send only one item under 4" in any dimension, crafted with a high level of skill. Partners give a theme list for ideas on how to craft a wee book! Here are links to the first round:

26  POTTERY, CERAMICS, POLYMER CLAY / Polymer Clay: Completed Projects / Ruby Slippers/Wicked Witch Bookmark on: April 22, 2011 07:41:22 AM
Hooray! My first project in the polyclay board!

I was reading "Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West" and had this idea for a funny bookmark Smiley I'm sure someone else has to have had this idea before, but I couldn't find it via google, so I had to make one.

The legs are formed of polyclay, but I had to paint em white after baking because they turned brown in the oven :/ Oh well... Then I painted the rest of the details with acrylic inks. And I made sure to cut a slit in the top of the legs before baking, so I'd have a place to attach the rest of the bookmark!

I could have made a more awesome bookmark part of the bookmark, but it was late last night, and I couldn't be bothered... If I decide to make another, I'll definitely papercraft it up and make a legit Oz-themed bookmark.

Hi ho, the witch is dead!

Thanks for looking Cheesy

27  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Coptic Stitch Mini-Journals on: March 18, 2011 11:53:04 AM
I've been wanting to learn to coptic stitch for a long time now, and finally after going googly-eyed over jolenemarie's handmade journals a few weeks ago, I decided it was finally time to learn!

Each signature is only one page, since I wanted there to be a lot of stitching!

I made this one last night (my very first!) and I embellished the front of it with an inchie that says "Home." This one is about 2'' x 2.5''

I put this one together this morning! I was pretty excited about the orange thread.

For this book, I used the same kind of painted watercolor paper that I use for my inchies, but for this, I painted both sides of the paper so there wouldn't be a white side.

I used my new metal punch set to make the "big ideas" thingie out of a piece of pop can. I've been making some fun embellishments with those alphabet punches lately! To color the letter indentations, I just colored the whole thing with sharpie, then sanded it down.

Thanks for looking!!!

Oh, and I used this youtube tutorial to learn the coptic stitch:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHAJyzzb4EE

Also, I used a dremel knockoff little rotary tool from Harbor Freight Tools with a teeny tiny drill bit (the whole set cost me $10, much cheaper than a dremel!)to punch the holes before stitching on the 2nd one I did (the colorful one). It made it WAY easier, and the holes lined up much better than when I punched the holes with a needle!

28  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Baby Sloth Plush! on: March 07, 2011 03:04:16 PM

I made this little sloth guy over the weekend, and finished up stuffing him today. I flippin love sloths, and I had that terribly funny SNL "SLOTHS!" song running through my head the whole time I was working.

The paws have velcro sewn on so he can climb all over the place...

I made him out of an old brown towel that was destined for a landfill. Sewing the thick material was a pain, and my sewing machine failed more than a few times, but hey! Cute is worth it!

Thanks for looking Smiley
29  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Inchies Dice! on: February 24, 2011 03:06:40 PM
I set out to make an inchies dice this afternoon. Since I usually do inchies in sets of six anyway, I figured the 6 sides of a cube would be perfect to make a little novelty dice thingie.

Here are the inchies before I glued them to the wooden cube.

Aaaaand close-ups of each, in case you wanna see:

Thanks for looking, folks Smiley I kinda wanna make a Harry Potter one... I'm sure I could come up with references for each number. That would be pretty cool. Or Mythbusters, since I'm kinda obsessed with them right now. Alright, enough rambling.
30  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Inchies - Tiny squares of yay! on: February 17, 2011 01:46:26 PM
It's really been FOREVER since I've posted a project on craftster, but I'm trying to really get back into it... Starting with the papercrafts board, my personal favorite Smiley

Here are some inchies I made last night and this morning. All of the backgrounds are cut from random watercolor texture I painted a while ago. I like to do a big sheet of random colors and then use the cricut to cut out a ton of inchies for future use.

You can hardly see in the photo, but the border is super shiny craft foil, a new thing to me that I'm super excited about...

Anyhoo, thanks for looking, fellow craftsters!
