Hello!  I finished this project during the bleak winter days and we finally had enough natural sunlight to take a few photos.

This is a cardboard organizer box covered in paper and filled with all manner of items.  Most of the items have something to do with being a place where hidden treasures or secrets are kept safe - nests, the hollow of a baby spoon, the shell shrine, the jar of wishes, the fuse box - all of them holding space for something sacred, significant, or fragile.

I wanted to work with paper and die cuts this weekend.  Here's the result.

Some angl-y shots to show all that sweet, sweet dimension.

These are really cool!

Since I am a member of the SCA, a medieval recreation group, I decided to do this the only way I knew how - the hard way.

9  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Birds & The Bees Shadow Box Collage on: March 14, 2016 01:00:38 PM
I've had a block for a while and this is the first thing I've made in months.  Whew.

It's a wooden cigar box, painted haphazardly with green acrylic and then the inside was covered with various ephemera, commercially produced papers, etc.

I also made a bee hive texture with gel medium and spray inks, then covered areas of the collage with gold metallic and clear encaustic wax.  Some metal embellishments, moss, sticks from my hydrangea, tiny beads, and hopefully the result is an interesting piece with natural elements.

I left the paint pretty rough with some areas of the box coming through.

Upside down.  Oops.

Nestled in with some of my other stuff.
