71  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Blue and Purple Picot Necklace on: January 12, 2014 02:00:22 PM
I haven't done any bead weaving in a long time, but was suddenly in the mood. Luckily for me, I got a gift certificate to the local bead store for Christmas. So the next time my husband and I went on a date we ended up at the bead store. I thought he was going to be bored out of his mind, but he was really helpful and actually picked out most of the beads for me.

The necklace is the Picot Necklace from Beaded Allure by Kelly Wiese.

72  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Patched Knees on: December 30, 2013 06:07:15 PM
My little girl wore holes in the knees of two of her jeans, so I decided to patch them.

And a close-up of my favorite pair.
73  COOKING / Dessert / Yarn Ball Cake on: December 30, 2013 06:01:27 PM

My friend who is an avid crocheter turned 30 in November and her husband threw her a surprise party and asked me to make the cake.

I had originally planned on a ball cake decorated to look like a ball of yarn, but then I came across a baby shower cake similar to the one I made, and changed my mind.

In the original cake I believe they wrapped Styrofoam balls with yarn, but I just made small yarn balls and glued a coffee stirrer inside it. Then I used gum paste to make a crochet hook.

The cake itself was a boxed German chocolate mix. Between the layers I spread cool whip and sprinkled it with chocolate toffee bits. The frosting was marshmallow butter cream with almond flavoring instead of vanilla.
74  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Yvonne Neck Warmer on: December 30, 2013 05:55:51 PM
Several years ago I bought the Yvonne Neck Warmer Pattern and some yarn intending to make a Christmas present for my sister-in-law. That never happened and I've had the yarn sitting in my stash since then. Then this year I moved from the warm south to the cold north and decided it was high time I made the neck warmer.

75  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Ribbon and Bow Hat on: December 30, 2013 05:52:07 PM

A little while ago I was in the mood to crochet. So I found a cute pattern online at Classy Crochet, grabbed some yarn from my stash, and made this cute thing. It wasn't quite as long as I wanted for my little girl, so I ended up giving it to my niece.

78  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Bed Book Pocket on: August 27, 2013 02:58:57 PM
My little girl loves reading. Often after she has been put to bed, we we'll find her staying up to read. Because of this she often has books spread across her room. To give her a place to keep her books I made a strip of felt that tucks under her mattress on one end and has a little pocket hanging down under her pillows.

Here it is empty.

And here it is holding her diary and six books.

I got the idea from the blog B. Jane brewing.
79  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Friendship Flower Mini Art Quilt on: August 11, 2013 08:52:04 AM

Craftster is such an amazing place. It's a place where we can show others our hard work, and get inspired by the work of others. But when I though about what Craftster meant to me, it wasn't so much about all the wonderful projects here, but about the community. I love how supportive and friendly everyone on Craftster is. Although I've never met most of the members, and I probably never will, I still feel I can call many of them my friend.

Where else can you come to find others who truly appreciate the hard work that went into your efforts, because they've been there too? If you're feeling insecure about a project all it takes are the wonderful comments of the members here, to realize that your efforts really were worth while.

When I ran across this quote I knew it was the perfect quote for an art quilt about Craftster. The people here really do make me happy, and not only do they make my soul blossom, they also help my creativity to blossom.
80  COOKING / Dessert / Colorful Naked Birthday Cake on: August 06, 2013 09:48:08 AM
My little girl was having her 7th birthday, and really wanted to fun cake. I knew I wasn't going to have a lot of time, because weren't going to be home much right before her birthday.

So I found a fun cake on pinterest that wasn't frosted all the way and let the sides of the cake show through.  It was really quick to make, and turned out great. (She was so excited and helped to put on the flowers.) I just used boxed white cake and added a bit of almond extract to the batter (it really makes the cake taste great). Then I portioned the batter out into bowls and added Wilton food coloring gel to it.  The frosting is a marshmallow butter cream with half vanilla and half almond extract for flavoring. Probably my all time favorite icing ever.

And here are pictures of some of the slices.
