1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Reversible Car Seat Canopy on: May 12, 2017 11:43:18 AM
I made this car seat canopy for my friend who is having a little boy at the end of the month. I wasn't sure which fabric she would like the best, so I made it reversible.

2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Cloth Diaper Burp Cloths on: May 12, 2017 11:38:20 AM
It seems that there are lots of babies being born this year, and while sometime a lightweight burp cloth is all you need, other times it just doesn't cut it. So I made these using Gerber Prefold cloth diapers. The three in the first 2 pictures I gave to my friend who is having a little boy any day now.  I'm keeping the bottom 7 for myself.

3  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Green, Blue, and Gold Rolags on: May 12, 2017 08:38:45 AM
My 5 year old has been begging me to use the "spiky board" aka blending board, so the other day we got it out and then dug through my odds and ends of fiber.

With her help I came up with these:

When I first looked at the green I didn't really like it, but I love how these rolags turned out.

We had some amazing things posted during the first quarter of 2017 to the Dolls, Toys and Playthings board. Here are just a few that people thought rocked.

5  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Purple Cabled Dog Sweater on: December 12, 2016 01:04:59 PM

I made this for my little Chihuahua mix. She was actually very patient with my trying it on her to get the right fit.

The pattern is Cabled Dog Sweater from A Crocheted Simplicity.  It was a tiny bit tricky at first, but once I figured out the pattern it was really simple to memorize and go.
6  FIBER ARTS / Weaving: Completed Projects / Black Opal Shawl on: December 12, 2016 12:59:51 PM
I made this shawl for my Mother-In-Law for Christmas.

The warp is black tencel doubled in a 12 dent heddle for 24 ends per inch.  The weft is some of my handspun yarn that I posted here.

It is about 80” long and 18” wide plus 6" twisted fringe.
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Black Opal on: December 12, 2016 12:50:23 PM

This is two skeins I spun from HipStrings Black Opal.
There is just shy of 1200 yards two ply. I also have a bit of singles left over that I may chain ply at some point.
8  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / "In his house at R'lyeh, dead Cthulhu waits dreaming." on: November 03, 2016 10:59:19 AM
My six year old decided that this year for Halloween he wanted to be Cthulhu.

I made his pants from green fleece. (I used another pair of pants he had to draft a rough pattern.)

The shirt was purchased.

The wings were both easy and challenging at the same time. I used this dragon wings tutorial. For the wing shape, I just eyeballed her pattern, but made it slightly bigger. I didn't have any old wire hangers to use for the "boning" so I just used jewelry wire I had on hand. This ended up not being sturdy enough for the wings. So I then twisted to pieces together and sewed them on top of the wings, covering them up with a ribbon. This still didn't make it sturdy enough, so I sewed a small length of chain to the wings and safety pinned it to his shirt. This helped, but they still weren't as stiff as I would have liked.

The wings are worn by elastics that go around the arms. I didn't want the elastic to show so I cut slits into the back of his shirt so the elastic would be underneath.

And last but certainly not least, Cthulhu's head.  I searched Ravelry until I found a pattern I liked the best. You can find it here.  Unfortunately, when I started crocheting it, I found my hat/mask at the eyes and eyebrows was not turning out like the pattern image at all, but more like other pattern images I had seen. To make sure I wasn't doing it completely wrong I went and looked at the project pages.  Everyone else who had used the pattern also had masks that looked like mine, and not the pattern image as well. So I ripped back what I had done for the eyes and played around until I got it to look similar to the pattern image.

And this picture is because he wanted me to take one so you could see he was smiling.

He loved his costume! Too bad he got to hot and ended up not wearing the hat/mask for most of the evening.
9  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Verbeena Yarn on: October 24, 2016 10:33:18 AM
Several years ago, I bought some 100% Merino hand dyed fiber by Frabjous Fibers in the colorway Verbeena.  I had planned on making felted soap with it. Well that never happened and I finally decided to I was just going to spin it instead. I don't know why I waited so long. I loved spinning this. I tend to gravitate towards sparkle, and this had none, so I had ignored it, but it was so amazing to spin.

The colors are more vibrant in real life. Closer to this picture of the single on the bobbin then the picture of the plied yard.

10  CLOTHING / Clothing for Kids: Completed Projects / Little Geranium Dress in Navy and Green on: October 20, 2016 08:26:42 AM
A friend was having a little girl, so I decided to make her a Little Geranium Dress minus the pockets. The pattern is available free of the 0-3 months size at Made by Rae, if you want to make one of your own. This is my third time making one and they always come out so cute.
