61  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: Limey goodness tote bag for my textbooks! on: September 05, 2005 12:02:01 PM
Thats so cool! I love the applique, and the fabric was a great find. Great job!

Yeah I fell in love with the fabric, too bad it was $9.95/yard!

Thanks for your nice comments.

The tie is amazing!  Sucks that it's heavy though, so not too practical.

So I made this tote bag to cart around my textbooks and notebooks for school this year to make it a little bit less of a drag.  I saw the lime fabric and it inspired me.

The bag itself.

Close up of the lime appliques I made out of felt and handsewed on.

The wonderful lining fabric.

One of the two pockets I put into the lining; they close with flaps with snaps on them and are both sized to fit my iPod, so I can throw the iPod in whichever one I feel like and throw my (smaller) cell in the other.

I'm thinking of putting a buttonhole style slit in the top of the pockets so that I can plug my 'Pod in through the flap, but this is all I have right now.  I hope to make a matching pencil bag too, but for now I'm focusing on school and with gas prices I really don't want to drive home just to sew a pencil bag.
64  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Misc. Gift Idea Brain Blockage / Re: House/Apartment Warming Gift on: August 23, 2005 07:13:17 PM
I just bought my boyfriend an apartment warming gift.  It may not necessarily be "fun" but it is definitely useful and something he probably would not have been able to justify buying himself.

His roommates are horrifically messy and he hates it so I bought him a good mop (one of the $10 ones, not a crummy sponge on a stick for $2) and a cleaning bucket which i filled with cleaning supplies--things like floor cleaner, 409, ajax, sponges (make sure you get the ones with the scrubby side--they're more expensive so boys usually won't buy them but oh my gosh they're so much better).  I arranged them in the bucket with some strips of paper in his favorite colors that I cut and crumpled up in the bucket.  When he saw it he got this huge smile on his face and said, "...A decent mop!!"

Where did you get the lamp from, originally?  Did you just modpodge the work sheets to a regular white shade or something else?
66  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / Re: soda can lantern on: December 23, 2004 08:13:27 PM
i was thinking that the 'rustoleum brand' heat resistent spray paint would be good for this project...i might just have to try it...

Isn't punching holes in aerosal cans a big no-no?  I hope I'm wrong, because I definitly have several of those around....If it works with spray paint cans, please tell!

I don't think she meant using the spray paint can for the lantern... I think she was talking about spray paint to use on the soda cans.  A spray paint can wouldn't bend easily enough anyway.
