11  Hot Air Balloon Lanterns (Baby Nursery Decoration) in Completed Projects by PerfectlyBohemian on: March 02, 2017 01:09:32 PM
A couple of my friends had their first baby last year in September. I consider myself fortunate/honored to have had opportunity host their baby shower at my home. I've also helped decorate for a couple other baby showers in the recent past, and I always like to make decorations for parties that can be incorporated into the baby nursery later.

For this shower, the theme was pink/gray, elephants and hot air balloons. I decided it was completely necessary to have hot air balloons actually hanging in my house, and wouldn't that also be super cute in the baby's room? Grin I used some $1 paper lanterns from Michael's value bins, some disposable plastic cups, a boat load of gesso, mod podge, and tissue paper, some cheap/tiny metal buckets, and twine to make them. I'm in love with bunting lately, so I also made teeny bunting for them with scraps of paper from a name banner I made them also!

Here's them in their new home! (yes, my living room and the baby nursery have the same light yellow walls somehow Tongue)

And a couple of detail shots:

I wish I had an earlier in progress shot to show the pre-tissue paper, but you can see I had mod podge aaaallll over the place here! Also, the lanterns started out with hot pink and black stripes and polka dots, so there were lots of layers needed before those stopped showing up...

You may notice a little traveler in one of the balloons! She was crocheted by my terrific friend studioANF with a whole family of elephants for the party! Grin

12  Little Fox Girl Cloth Doll in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by PerfectlyBohemian on: March 01, 2017 07:27:16 PM
I decided at the last minute to bring a homemade gift to a friend's baby's first birthday last year. I had less than 24 hours when I started, so some things came out a little wonky, but I think for a simply play doll, she came out okay. My friend and I both like foxes and have swapped each other a handful of fox themed crafted things in the past, so I thought a little fox girl was a great idea for a doll. I used only fabrics from my stash, so there's quite a mix of textures. It was really fun to throw this together and I'm hoping to make more gifts for friends' babies in the future Smiley

The dress is reversible - woodland fabric with trees and animals on the gray side, and mushrooms on the green side. The skirt is made from a vintage handkerchief.

Her face is all hand embroidered.

I packed her and her extra skirt into a pretty box from Joann's with the hope that in the future I can make her some more outfits and she will have a nice little storage box for all her pieces.

And I also hand sewed on a homemade handmade patch on her little tush.

I did learn several months later that a ribbon belt was a bad idea for someone who might put any small objects in her mouth, so next time, I'll just sew on the ribbon and snug up the dress so it isn't so baggy. Everything was made using free-handed patterns by me Smiley

And here's an "in action" shot of me and the happy little owner of this fox doll - photo courtesy of her grandma Grin

Felicity made it back home this weekend while I was out of town! She brought a huuuuge load of goodies back with her. Waterbaby really spoiled her during her stay.

Some of my favorite things include Felicity's new hat collection!! First up is this adorable sun hat that waterbaby made:

Then a fantastic sombrero that is just right for Felicity's little noggin:

Waterbaby also made us a wonderful set of scrappy quilted coasters inspired by my Pinterest:

And this very sweet mushroom pincushion with a very special ladybug pin hidden among the butterflies:

Felicity also helped paint this lovely little ceramic bowl and scavenged treasures from the beach during her stay:

I can't wait to sit down with Felicity and read through her trip album. There's lots of great descriptions and details. Here's a couple random pages for an idea. I haven't gotten a chance to decide on favorites because there are soooo many pages Cheesy:

Felicity brought tons of other stuff home too which can be seen in the first couple pictures. Hopefully I don't miss anything, but here we are:
- Reusable totes/bags from gardens and communities she visited
- A Magic Cube from the Disney concert hall!
- Magnets from Hollywood and San Diego
- a "Felicity" CA tag keychain that will live on her travel bag now with some of her other travel memorabilia
- lots and lots of vintage lace
- pens from her travels
- tons of brochures, programs, tickets, and other papery items from the things she did with waterbaby
- two HUGE boxes of fudge (yum yum yum!!) <3
- and a Mexican paper banner/bunting string

15  Re: IYP 29: summer swing along Gallery in The Swap Gallery by PerfectlyBohemian on: September 09, 2016 06:08:59 PM
I received a really lovely package from Cackle this week! She and I agreed to make items that complimented other items we had already made each other, so she made a painting of a little fashion assistant for the mermaid she previously painted me!

And here she is with my mermaid painting from Cackle when we did the Make-a-Friend swap - she usually hangs in my master bathroom, but I was getting horrible glares in the photos, so she temporarily wast taken down:

I was spoiled and received some extra items too! This super neat flower that happens to be all my favorite colors. It's quite sizable and has lots of interesting details.

And lastly, a dainty little pendant with a fish which I wound up putting on a blue ball and chain to wear today with my ocean wave leggings Smiley

Alby joined me for a friend's wedding rehearsal on Saturday at the Duke Chapel (at Duke University) in Durham, NC. I was absolutely blown away by the historic look of the buildings and the chapel on this part of the campus. I felt like I was in Europe for a moment. There aren't many buildings like this that I have seen in the US.

And I know Alby isn't actually in this photo, but we had to just look up and be amazed by all the architecture and amazing structural pieces and stain glass in this cathedral. It was so gorgeous!

17  Re: Mini Junk Journals in The Swap Gallery by PerfectlyBohemian on: August 05, 2016 08:09:28 PM
I received an absolutely gorgeous journal from Onyxnox this week! It features a little bit of everything from my themes and it is all so well put together and has so many awesome little details. And there are so many pages! And lots of tags, and charms, and lace! I tried to narrow down my favorites, but that's like half the book. So here we go Cheesy

There's this one page that is actually a Basmati rice bag with the snap still intact acting like an envelope!

And there's an awesome quote at the end <3

Lots of the pages have this very dimensional layering and pages sewn together:

And look! Pressed flowers <3 <3 <3

Ha! A bank, waterbaby? I am kicking myself for not going back into a building last week that I met a client at. I didn't want to pull Alby out to take pictures on the roof or while walking out with a bunch of clients because the group of old men were already not taking me very seriously as a young, female engineer with half of my hair dyed purple and blue. The building we were at is also an old bank with the old vault turned into a vending machine room Tongue

I did get lots of pictures with Alby in Wilmington and on Carolina Beach though! Here's also some pictures from prior weeks that I hadn't gotten around to sharing.

First, we went to Downtown Raleigh a few weeks ago (to play Pokemon Go  Tongue), so I got to show Alby the capitol building, the iconic acorn sculpture, and the cool tree on the conference center. (the last one was a drive-by photo  Roll Eyes)

In Wilmington, we visited the Battleship North Carolina. I have sooo many photos of Alby in the ship, and it was late in the day, so there were no people getting in our way. Although I did feel like I was getting lost on the ship because it was so huge! There were also lots of neat (and scary) things in there.

The hallways were all very narrow (bleh)

We visited a Post Office, too! (on the ship):

I don't think most ships have wishing wells....

Alby and I dropped a few coins in to appease any would-be goblins or trolls that might be on board though:

Also while in Wilmington, we ate dinner on the river.

The condo we rented had a lovely beachfront view! Alby did lots of relaxing while I worked from the condo on Monday and Tuesday.

Lots more photos of our trip are on Alby's photo album here: https://goo.gl/photos/fmHJh8wwt9kT9wvQA Smiley

Alby "supervised" today at a wall build for Habitat for Humanity we did today. We built all the walls for an entire house in 2.5 hours Cheesy

Here are some photos from Alby and me at the Yates Mill Pond a couple weekends ago. They still do tours of the mill, but the friend we were with had to leave before the tour started, so we missed it. We got to see the mill and pond, then walked the trail behind the pond.

Here's the creek that runs away from the dam, and the bridge for the road over it:

And the mill:

The confetti someone left all over the rocks behind the dam:

And the pond!

I forgot to take pictures on the trail  Lips sealed

Also, Alex, I am playing Pokemon Go Smiley I will have to remember to take Alby on my next walk to go hunting for some. There's several "PokeStops" near my office we can check out since most of them are supposed to be culturally or artistically significant - although a ton are in the cemetery which seems a little odd and semi-disrespectful...
