21  Two of my Chunky Halloween Houses inspired by "FIDO" in Completed Projects by coocoosnest on: October 21, 2012 07:24:52 PM
I love to throw together little groupings and scenes from some of my favorite movies or books so this year when two of my Chunky Halloween House partners said they liked zombies my first thought was "FIDO".  It's one of my all time favorite zombie movies and I have watched it so many times.  So I thought this would be a good opportunity to make these two partners (and myself Grin ) some houses inspired by FIDO.

So here is the War Room which belongs to Zomcon's new head of security.  His war room is his office in his home where he displays his zombie war trophies along with his many framed photos of himself during the war and his framed newspaper clippings boasting of his many kills.  And then there is the specimen jar that holds the head of one of his kills.......Uncle Bob!  It's that specimen jar with Uncle Bob's head that got me started on this one,  I just had to have one.

Now all of my Chunky Houses that I've ever made have been photoshopped from top to bottom but it took me so long to get Uncle Bob's head right that I almost gave up. In the movie there was only a brief shot of the  right side of the jar and then a longer showing of the front. So I had to take these two shots and put them together in a way that could be stretched and rolled to be placed inside the small plastic tube so that Uncle Bob's head looked like a real head suspended in liquid.  And I wanted it to look right from any angle.  Needless to say, I have a whole envelope full of failed attempts that once printed and rolled just didn't look right.  I think I'm finally happy with the final result though. So here is my War Room and a close up of Uncle Bob.

And a couple more.

My second house revolves around the father in the movie. He was afraid of zombies and wanted to make sue that he could provide head coffin funerals for him and his family.    In the end of course he got his wish and he had a lovely head coffin burial.  My Chunky House has a head coffin containing the Zomcon logo on the front and the front sticks shut with a magnet but easily pulls off for the head viewing.  So here's my head coffin house.

These were really fun to make.  Hope you enjoy!

I received a fabulous house from loves2experiment today and it made my day.  The colors are perfect, the mood is perfect and I love the "wasting away   flirts with life & death"  that's inside the door.  The illustration is so my style.  Thank you L2E, I've loved swapping with you.

And a close up of the door.

Thank you all for your comments on my cards. It's the first time I ever tried to burn on such thin wood.  Actually the first one I worked on ended up with a big hole burned all the way through it. Grin

Where on earth did you find the thin and ATC size wood, coocoosnest? It is awesome work you don't Frankenstein's Monster.

Radmom, I got a bag full of assorted  pieces of Balsa wood at Hobby Lobby. There were a lot of thin sheets that are about 4" x 8" so I can get two ATCs per sheet and still have lots of little scraps to save for other projects.

And now for my last (sigh) card.  I received today from jennden this wonderful little kitty. The colors really pop and there are touches of glitter and shine. And I think it looks really nice displayed against the card she mailed it in with a little kitty cut out.

This has been such a great swap. I love everyone's cards and wish I had each and everyone of them displayed on my wall. Thank you jillybean and Witchhippie!

I got my second card yesterday from Toralune. I love my little jack-o-lantern spider. The picture doesn't show the glitter very well but there is a glittered spider web in the background and the yellow of his face is sparkly too.  Thank you Toralune, he will have a good home here with me!

I'm so glad you liked it. These things are so much fun to make.

And here's the great house I received from ecopp. I love the colors and the Halloween coin. The door has tiny little silhouettes of an owl, a bat and some mice and spiders.  The bats at the top are glittery. Thank you ecopp for a wonderful addition to my collection.

I received my very first ATC ever today from Robinpich and I love it, love it, LOVE IT!  I love the texture and the colors and just everything.  Now I've got to think of a nice way to display because these will stay out all year.  Thank you so much Robinpich!

28  Double headed snake bracelet in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by coocoosnest on: May 02, 2012 08:31:45 AM
Here is a bracelet I just finished. I have been wanting to try this out for a while now  and finally decided to give it a go. I crochet snakes a lot but for this one I wanted to have a head on each end and have the belly of each one twist around to become the head of the other.  I'm happy with how it turned out and now am planning to make some more. I'd like to try one with metal beads.  Maybe copper and something.  Thanks for looking.

Here in different light.

And here's the back side so you can see the twist to reverse the colors.

29  Snow and Ice Snake necklace in CHALLENGE 71 ENTRIES by coocoosnest on: February 03, 2012 09:17:27 AM
Some of you know that I like to crochet snakes.  I'd always wanted to make a solid white one to represent snow but when I sat down to start stringing it with the nice smooth uniformly sized white beads I was going to use it started looking pretty boring.  So I started looking through my stash and found a ton of the beads that aren't quite perfectly shaped and sized.  I thought about how when our dogs go out and play in the snow they come in with all these little to large sized balls of snow stuck all over their legs. And ice.  You can't have snow without a little ice here and there.  So here is my vision of a snow and ice snake. Tiny little odd shaped balls of snow and ice formed by slithering through deep winter forest and frozen fields.

Here is the finished necklace. It measures just a hair over 3 foot long. It is a little on the heavy side since it is all glass beads. It was all crocheted in single crochet except the fangs and tail were strung on.

Here is a better look of the top of the head. This is the only part of the snake that was designed out and had to the strung in a pattern before crocheting. The rest of the snake was randomly strung.

Here is closeup of the head.

Here is pic of the snake in progress. Snakes are crocheted from tail to head and at this point the top half of the head is is almost completed.

Hope you enjoy!

30  Re: 50 Projects 2012--Join here and post your lists ! in Craftalongs by coocoosnest on: February 01, 2012 02:47:58 PM
Firstly, thanks for all your kind comments on my snake and closet. I must say I am happy with how they both turned out.  Nextly, I'd like to say how great everyone projects are coming out.  I love all the yarns and scarves. I especially love those badges. That might be something I could try in the future cause they are fantastic.  And the little owl hats are so adorable.  The bad thing is that there are so many great ideas in here that I now have started a second list in my notebook and I don't know how I'm going to get it all done.

But I do have a couple of WIPs I can mark off my list now. the first is my little Voodoo Doll keychain. I don't know if it's going to work or not.  Roll Eyes Grin

Next I finished my Evil Eye bracelet. I needed to get this finished to wear at all time just in case the voodoo doll should happen to fall into the wrong hands, namely DH.

Hi ho, hi ho it's off to craft I go.
