231  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Harry Potter Memorial Charm Bracelet on: July 11, 2011 01:00:46 PM
I have been organizing the Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Part II swap.  My lovely partner amor_fati requested a piece of jewlery that would serve as a memorial to all the characters who died throughout the series.  I thought that if I was making a memorial to them, that I'd prefer it to be serious, but not sad, much like Rowling's books.  So I went with black, silver, white and clear glass beads, with tiny touches of red, yellow, blue and green Swarovski crystal for each of the Houses, since all of them lost members in the Battle of Hogwarts.  I also tried to have the charms commemorate the best and happiest parts of each of the characters.

The charms include: a full moon for Lupin, wolf for Tonks' patronus, the Hallows symbol, owl for Hedwig, vial of Snape's memories, Hogwarts castle, wizard for Dumbledore (how Harry always saw him, venerable and old in magical robes), courageous token for the trio's journey, socks for Dobby, cemetery gates for  Godric's Hollow, glass eye for Mad Eye Moody, stag for James and a doe for Lilly, Claddagh (symbol of Love, Loyalty & Friendship) for favorite Hufflepuff Cederic, motorcycle for Sirius, and a mischief managed charm for Fred.

And I hope that any of you going to the midnight release this week enjoy the show!
232  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / New Bottle Cap Pendants: Mermaid, Mucha, TARDIS, Lady of Shalott, Ravenclaw on: July 11, 2011 12:03:26 PM
I made a few more bottle cap pendants about two weeks ago.  (I've been behind posting here!)  I like how they came out, and think I'm going to keep a few of them for myself for a change.  (I always seem to be giving things away!)   Cheesy

233  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Fit for a Princess Charm Bracelet on: July 11, 2011 11:51:13 AM
I always seem to be making charm bracelets themed around books, movies and tv shows that I love.  This weekend, while staring at my craft desk, and the boxes and boxes of beads and charms stacked on it, I decided to do something completely different with theme and color.  To try to make something that isn't really me even.  I dug through all my boxes till I came up with enough goodies to make up a fairy tale themed bracelet.  And even though it isn't my personal style, I'm very happy with how it turned out.

The charms include: a pumpkin for Cinderella's coach, the Frog Prince, a Fairy, spinning wheel for Sleeping Beauty, a crown, a heart for your true love, Fairy God Mother, a key, a royal coach, a rose for Belle, a Princess, a French coin, a gnome for Rumpelstiltskin, a castle, a dragon, Cinderella's slipper, an apple for Snow White.

The beads are a mix of AB cut glass, Swarovski crystal, AB pressed glass leaves and stars, and pearls in shades of violet, plum, rose, lemon and gold.

234  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Ice Cold Pumpkin Juice on: July 11, 2011 10:48:35 AM

While trying to find good recipes for a party before the premier of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1, I was really disappointed in the selection of Pumpkin Juice recipes online.  Since I was going to have a house full of people all day long, I didn't want to be trapped in the kitchen roasting a whole pumpkin.  (Let alone squeezing all the pulp!)  Orange juice, canned pumpkin and pumpkin pie spices didn't sound like a great plan either, because the ratios of the recipes online would have made it too thick to sip.  After all, it's not called Pumpkin Smoothie.  It's Pumpkin JUICE!

So I did some creative thinking....  I remembered that Jello makes a Pumpkin Spice pudding, and thought that Jello might have some sort of beverage recipes online.  (Jello Recipes)  I found one for "Creamy Orange Citrus Breeze", which called for Vanilla Pudding, orange juice, and Cool Whip.  I simply substituted the juices & pudding flavors for a more autumnal themed beverage.

Ice Cold Pumpkin Juice

1 gallon cold apple cider
1 pkg. JELL-O Pumpkin Spice Instant Pudding Mix (4-serving size)
COOL WHIP LITE Whipped Topping (thawed)

Pour 3-4 cups of cider into the blender, along with about 1/4 of the pudding mix, and a few spoonfuls of cool whip.  Blend till creamy.  Taste.  If you would like a more pumpkiney flavor, add more of the pudding mix and re-blend.  I like to start off with a little, and see how it goes, as everyone's tastes are different. If you would like it icy, add 4-6 ice cubes into the blender.

This really tastes like Autumn in a glass.  Creamy dreamy good.  And before you all freak out that I've given you a recipe, that you can't possibly make in the middle of summer (since Pumpkin Spice Pudding only comes out in the fall), I'll let you know that while I was in Walmart last month I found a huge amount of Pumpkin Spice Pudding mix.  Granted it was in that weird aisle of mixed-up things that are on clearance, but still.  They had tons.  I bought 2 extra boxes while I was there.   Cheesy
235  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Harry Potter Recipes Collection on: July 11, 2011 06:20:25 AM
Hello Harry Potter fans!  While organizing the Decked Out for Deathly Hallows Swap Part II, I realized that there is no thread of Harry Potter recipes here on Craftster!  Shocked

If you have an HP themed recipe you want added to the list, you can do one of two things.  If it already has it's own thread, please send me a link to it via PM.  If you have not written up your own posting of it and do not plan to, you can post it as a reply here.  I will provide a link directly to it in this first post.

So c'mon friends!  Send me your best Butterbeer, or your most wonderful Fizzing Whizbees.  Favorite Fever Fudge and most luscious Licorice Wands.  We want them all!

236  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Queen of Space Bracelet & Earrings on: June 27, 2011 08:37:01 AM
I recently participated in the "I Really Need a Friggen Crown, or other Lofty Headwear" Swap.  I was partnered up with the lovely Innaura, who has been named the Queen of Space by an old friend.  Sadly, I forgot to take pictures of the crown before I sent it.   Sad

I really wanted to make something extra for Innaura, who sent me the most beautiful beaded wire crown.  So I created a Queen of Space bracelet and earrings to go with her crown.  Thankfully, I did manage to get pictures of them!

The beads are a mix of jet black glass, black AB, black star shaped shell bead frames, soft smoky lavender pearls, slate, and Montana blue fire-polished glass.  The charms are a collection of fairy tale and celestial themes, including suns, moons, stars, key, dragon, crown, castle and fairy.  The bracelet is finished with a star toggle clasp.

237  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Doctor Who Earrings - Ood, Impossible Astronaut, <3 <3 the Doctor on: June 17, 2011 06:59:53 AM
In addition to being unable to stop crafting Harry Potter jewelry, I also seem to be addicted to making Doctor Who themed goodies.  These are some earrings I whipped up last night.

238  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Pureblood Pride Charm Bracelet on: June 16, 2011 10:04:13 AM
I'm still on my Harry Potter crafting kick.  I am apparently unable to stop.  Though I'm a Gryffindor, I seem to most often craft for Hufflepuff & Ravenclaw friends.  In an attempt to even the score I've been trying to create a few new Slytherin themed pieces.  This one is sort of an ode to Miss Cissy & Miss Bella.

Pureblood Pride

The bracelet is full of Druk & fire-polished Czech glass, Swarovski crystal, freshwater pearls, and hematite beads.  The charms include: Evil eye for protection, textbooks and an apple, key, Celtic knot, dragon, wand, castle, snake, star, inkwell & quill, owl, shield, skull, moon & spider.

Enjoy!
239  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Browncoat Bracelet (Firefly themed charm bracelet) on: June 16, 2011 09:41:20 AM
The other day while talking to a friend I suddenly realized that though I have made tons of loaded charm bracelets, with many varied themes, I've somehow NEVER made a Firefly bracelet.  That's when I started plotting this one.

I wanted a less fancy feel than some of my other bracelets, so I stuck with all glass beads, no pearls or crystals.  Amber, brown, opaque red-brown and black beads fill it.  There are 17 charms, each a nod to a character or episode.  They include:
Cow, who sadly may have forgotten how to be a cow
Chinese coins (x4)
Dancer for the ever graceful and sometimes deadly, River Tam
Space suit
Caduceus for the good doc, Simon Tam
Strawberry for sweet Kaylee

Vera, the man they call Jayne's very favorite gun
Shepherd Book's bible
Guitar, for the often nomadic feel of the show's score
Horse for the ranch where Mal grew up
Inara's fan

Zoe's pistol
Apple, for the many war stories the crew shares
Dinosaur for Wash
Star, one of many out in the black

All in all I'm pretty darn happy with how it turned out.  Hope some of you fine folks enjoy it too.
