Now that the lovely sheepBlue has received her swap package, I have a ton of homework to turn in!

Class: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Solar System Art Quilt

Project Page Link: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=424559.msg5050667#msg5050667
Brief Description:  This art quilt is inspired by the solar system, and includes a spectacular view of Saturn, which we are learning about this semester in Astronomy.  The background is made of layers of burnout velvets from the scrap bins at work. I added some silk dupioni planets, sheer metallic mesh, sequin trim, lace, beads, and a lot of rayon embroidery thread.

Challenge: Bertie Bott's - Onion
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Vintaj Turquoise Earrings & Bracelet

Brief Description: These little earrings and bracelet look simple, but if you look close you'll notice that they include several layers!  The earrings are made of Vintaj art metal disks, which were embossed, then painted, sanded, and coated in a clear glaze. (3 layers!)  The bracelet is a layer of beading wire, covered with river shell beads, and ended with a needle & thread charm to help get the crafty muses singing.

Class: Care of Magical Creatures
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: TARDIS Bookmark

Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: Like the jobberknoll, this little treasure is blue, and is also known for making an particularly awful vwoorping sound when the parking break is on!

Class: DADA
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Black Jasper Protection Bracelet

Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: The Hinkypunk, or wil-o-the-wisp is an especially dangerous dark creature.  In order to protect my friend sheepBlue from them on her travels, I created this bracelet for her.  It is made from black jasper, which is said to bring good luck and has a healing and protective energy.  The Hamsa is a talisman against the Evil Eye, or any other ill intent.  The skull earrings are also charmed so as to deter any dark creatures bent on mischief.

Class: History of Magic
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Geode Charm Necklace & Geode Earrings

Project Page Link (if available): https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=424562.msg5050676#msg5050676
Brief Description: In my studies about Midsummer celebrations, I discovered symbols of thriving flora and fauna.  This is my ode to the wonders of the Summer Solstice.  The necklace features a deep purple geode, a shell heart for the ocean, a birds nest and bird for forest animals, and an acorn, flower and leaf.

Class: Muggle Studies
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Acorn Hollow Pendant & Earrings

Project Page Link (if available): https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=424563.msg5050679#msg5050679
Brief Description: I'm not really a camping kind of girl, so I was nervous about this field trip.  In preparation though, I decided to take along my flower press.  Mr. Weasley has been helping me improve up the simple Muggle contraption, so that I might be able to magically store and preserve some of the flora seen on our trip.  Upon returning, I transfigured the items I had gathered into this necklace, bracelet & earrings!

(The leaf pendants were embossed with the Acorn Hollow Deco Emboss Folder from Vintaj, then painted with emerald and onyx Vintaj paints.  I sanded off the paint to relief the design, then paired it with some brass ivy and oak art metal leaves, as well as some acorns made from fancy jasper stone beads and brass bead caps.  The bracelet is also fancy jasper, with brass findings.)

Class: Transfiguration
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Red Coral Heart's Blood Bracelet & Earrings

Project Page Link (if available):
Brief Description: This bracelet & earrings set were inspired by the Chinese Fireball dragon.  Dragons are known for breathing fire un wizards to dare to cross them.  In that vein, I chose to use red coral, which is believed to heal the body by heating and stimulating the blood stream.  It is finished with a human heart charm to remind the wearer to emulate the fearless heart of a dragon.

These were created for the lovely sheepBlue in the IYP Swap: Round 23.  sheepBlue asked for a charm-style necklace that represented her home in the Pacific Northwest.  The base is a deep purple geode, and the charms include a shell heart for the coast, a birds nest and bird for the forest animals, and an acorn, flower and leaf for the fauna found there.

Once I was on a roll with the geodes, I couldn't quite stop crafting, so I created a set of earrings too. Green geodes and silver trees.

3379  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Solar System Mini Art Quilt on: June 13, 2013 09:03:55 AM
I just completed this mini art quilt for the lovely sheepBlue in the IYP Swap: Round 23.  She requested an art quilt for her wall of Craftster-made art, but left the subject up to me.  While digging through the scrap bins at work (I run a costume shop at a university), I found some great burnout velvet fabrics that I knew I wanted to use.  Added to that some silk dupioni planets, sheer metallic mesh, sequin trim, lace, beads, and a lot of rayon embroidery thread, and you have the solar system!

Sun was created with layers of metallic mesh, primitive pleated silk organza, and some metallic spandex, covered with free-motion embroidery and gold beads.

Saturn is made of a gold and pink silk dupioni that we used on stage in Dangerous Liaisons this year, and lots of AB glass beads.

Earth was made of cotton, and free motion embroidered.
