Challenge: Headmistress Challenge - October
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Wonder Woman Dresses for the Season

Brief Description: This year DH & I were invited to a friend's Halloween party.  She loves Halloween and demanded everyone come in costume, but DH doesn't really like dressing up.  I decided to come up with a costume that would feel like his regular clothing, but everyone else would see as an actual costume.  DH is 6'3", and has black hair and wears glasses.  He's also my superhero.  Hence, I made him Clark Kent.  Superman shirt worn under a half unbuttoned white shirt.  Done.  But what to make myself?  Since I'm clearly a superhero in my own right, I decided to go as Wonder Woman!  But as it's cold, even in TN, on Halloween, I wanted warmer clothes than a corset and booty shorts.  I picked up a 3/4 sleeve red shirt at Target, and added an awesome Wonder Woman Rhinestone Iron-on Transfer from Etsy.  The transfer went on like a dream.  I also bought the Wonder Woman Tiara from an Etsy seller.  It was pretty great quality, adjustable, super comfortable to wear all night, and only $6!  The bracelets were made from toilet paper rolls, covered in gold duct tape.  For the Lasso I took some silver trim that I had laying around, and painted it gold with craft paint.  Finally, I spent 4 hours painstakingly drawing out stars on a denim skirt, then bleach stenciling them.  Sadly, after all those hours of work, nothing happened.  The bleach gel pen I used had somehow "gone bad" or gone dead more like.  The paste came out of the pen, but when I rinsed the skirt after letting it soak for 2 hours, there was absolutely no change in the color.  I didn't have time to restencil before the party. Sad  Oh well.  We were a hit anyway, and we were both very comfortable.  Everyone thought DH looked dashing, and they all wanted to try on my tiara.  Sadly we didn't get any pictures at the party, so you'll have to forgive my awful selfie.  (Also, this may be the first selfie I've ever taken.)

Bonus:  I now have a Wonder Woman tee shirt to wear all the time.  Wink

How are you spending the holidays?  Perhaps you are spending the holidays cozied up at The Burrow, wandering the halls of Hogwarts, or having a good old-fashioned Muggle gathering...but really what better way is there to celebrate than with a little Harry Potter Holiday crafting!  For this swap we will be exchanging Harry Potter holiday items like HP ornaments, mini-hooplas, jewelry for the Yule Ball, or a small HP present for your partner.

~*This swap is for 1 small item (1-2 hours crafting time) in the theme of HP Holiday.
***Please note that while many folks in the swap will celebrate Christmas, this swap is open to EVERYONE and swappers are welcome to ask for Yule, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year's other other holiday themes if they prefer.***

~*You can have up to 3 partners.  EXCEPTION: First-time swappers will be limited to 1 partner.  This is to help ease you into the swap process.

~*You can Invite Your Own Partners!  If you obtain an Invite Your Partner (IYP), PM your organizer, Mistress Jennie, after both sides agree.  Questionnaires will not be sent out until signups closing, but you are ore than welcome to start sharing your questionnaire and crafting for your IYP as soon as you are approved for the swap.  REMEMBER: You must be approved for the swap before announcing IYPs.

IMPORTANT NOTES
~* Since this is a holiday swap, if you have not sent by 3 days past sendouts, you will get temporary negative.  I don't mean to be harsh, but it is sad to not to receive your holiday parcel during holiday time.  This temporary negative will be reversed when your partner receives.
~* If you do not have IYP and I am pairing, that will be done by random draw (with appropriate attention to allergies and shipping given).
~* You may agree with your partner to send extras, but remember that is not regulated through me and not part of my feedback.

~*BE SURE TO READ THIS ENTIRE POST.  There is a secret pass phrase within this post, to help ensure that you read all of the information.  You must include this pass phrase in your questionnaire in order to join the swap.

If you want to participate, fill out the below questionnaire and send to organizer.
(Remember to send your info to the organizer via Private Message (PM) and not to reply with it here)

Remember to read the Swap Info Guide and Swap FAQs before participating in a swap.

Note about Personal Messages (PMs) to Organizer: Please label PMs to organizer with title of "HP Holiday" or "HPH".

Note about Communication: For a wonderful swap experience, communication is the key.  Please keep in touch with your partner.  Please note that per Craftster rules, you MUST post in this thread at least once a week to let us know you are still around.  (You can stop in for a quick hello.....or if on holiday or will be without internet access or anything of the such, just post a message....it gives your partner and organizer warm fuzzy feelings to know you are still around).

Notes about Sending, Receiving, and Feedback
  • SENDING: Take pictures of your items before you send.  When sending, you must use a DC# (or for overseas keep that receipt). Keep your receipt until your partner receives.  PM organizer and partner when you send.
  • RECEIVING: PM organizer and partner when you receive.  Take pictures of received items. (Please take quality pictures, like ones you would take of your work.)  Post pictures in gallery in a timely manner.
  • FEEDBACK: Given when a package is received (verified through PM or DC#) Detailed feedback will be given.  Examples: Sent Early or Lack of Communication: No PMs of Sending/Receiving.
.

HPH3 FAQs
---NO, you do not have to send extras.  Do not fret about if you are only sending 1 small item; that is all that is required for this swap.  Yes, some of us will send more, but don't underestimate the glory of 1 fabulous small HP craft.

---NO, your HPH3 item does NOT have to be an ornament; I will not give negative feedback for sending something other than an ornament.  Believe it or not, some peeps don't want ornaments.  Here communication is key!  Find out what your partner wants; first place to check, their questionnaire.  Wink

---The secret pass phrase is: Have a very Harry holiday!

---A small item should take 1-2 hours of crafting time.  YES, you may send a set of related extra-smalls that equal that crafting time if you wish.  (And yes, you can go over that time; I probably will.)

Note from the Headmistress...
This semester I will be offering 3 extra Challenges.  Each Headmistress Challenge will be themed to the season, and will earn 15 House Points just like Classes.  So what's next?

Headmistress Challenge - November
November 1 - November 30

In the United States Thanksgiving is the second event in what is considered the "holiday season" that takes place between the end of October and January.  While all holidays gain their own rich traditions and beloved family recipes, Thanksgiving, is one where family recipes are truly treasured and passed on.  Meals are considered incomplete without a serving of Nana's Stuffing, mom's Green Bean Casserole, or Aunt Fran's Pumpkin Pie.

For this Headmistress Challenge, you must share a beloved family recipe from a previous generation.  The recipe cannot be something you found on Pinterest and started making 2 years ago.  It must be something that you love, that you have enjoyed for years, and has been made annually by someone older in your family.  So dig deep, and share the love with your Craftster family.  Maybe your Great-Aunt Beverley's  Cranberry Bread will become a favorite in another's family too.

Please remember that all recipes posted must include a complete recipe, written in recipe format, and must include a photograph of the finished project.

Please note you are welcome to do any, all or none of these challenges as they come up throughout the semester.  They are not intended to cause stress, but are instead intended to get your crafty Muses singing.  None of the HPC staff will complete ALL the classes and challenges posted this semester.  So relax, and craft what you love.

A new Detention Challenge has been posted!
Be sure to check the Detention in the Dungeons Post to see what it is....

Remember, you can do any, all, or none of the Detention Challenges as they come up each month.  The goal here is always to be excited about our crafting!  Also please remember that you can submit ANY of the Detention Challenges at ANY time during the semester.  For example, you may turn in the September or October challenges in November.  Smiley

Class: Alchemy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Nutcracker Suite Charm Bracelet

Project Page Link:
Brief Description: When thinking about what might embody the characteristics of love, balance, feminine beauty, and artistic creativity, I was reminded of the many talented dancers I know and have worked with over the years.  This bracelet is my ode to those talented artists.  The theme is the Nutcracker Suite, and it is filled with dancers, pointe shoes, Christmas tree, Nutcracker, snowflakes, and the colors were inspired by the Sugar Plum Fairy.
Project Picture:

Class: Astronomy
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Paracord Necklace

Brief Description: Sometimes I feel like there are no new crafts to learn, and then all of a sudden, there is!  My brother-in-law asked me to make him a paracord necklace to hold his wedding ring while he plays baseball.  Too bad I've never made anything with paracord before.   Tongue  I used a tutorial I found online, and made this over the weekend.  (Also, does anyone else have that one member of your family that treats you like their own personal crafter?  Who asks you to make whatever they are thinking about at the moment, and just expect you to do it, without any sort of please, thank you, or offer to even pay for supplies?)

Challenge: Bertie Bott's - Broccoli
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Time Turner Bookmarks

Project Page Link:
Brief Description: A friend who knows of my love of all things HP gave me a beautiful pair of Time Turner earrings.  The detail on them is amazing, but they are a bit heavy for my small ears, and I don't often wear yellow gold.  After asking if it was okay with her, I transfigured them into bookmarks!  They dangle from gold loops on gold-plated steel bookmarks.

Challenge: Detention - September
House: Gryffindor
Project Name: Mischief Managed Bookmarks

Project Page Link:
Brief Description: These have been in-process on my work desk for the last two months.  I had collected all the components, but not put them together yet, since I couldn't quite get the bead colors to feel right.  I finally settled on magenta and lime green as a nod to Fred & George's brightly colored store, Weasley's Wizard Wheezes.

Advanced Studies Friday Saturday Update

I've made good progress on my Transfiguration OWL.  I have completed 19 rows on my afghan.  I was worried that the colors weren't going to work together.  (I knew the russet & green would work, but was worried about the brown.)  But they seem much more harmonious now that I've worked on it a bit.  In fact, I think I'm going to pull the afghan back out and try to get in two more rounds before the night is out.  Cheesy

Class: Apparition
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name:  Trio of Earrings
Brief Description: This project was quick, but not quite as quick as it might seem.  I made a few pairs of each one of this trio of earrings!  Halloween inspired "Nevermore" Earrings, Gothic Skeleton Key Earrings, and Nutcracker Earrings for the holidays!
Project Picture:

Challenge: Bertie Bott's Bean - Shrimp
House: Gryffindor!
Project Name: Happy Holidays Charm Bracelet
Brief Description: This charm bracelet was inspired by the kit that I made for WhistleFish, but is a general holiday theme rather than an HP Holiday theme.  It is certainly smaller than 4"x4"x4"!

450  Harry Potter Holiday Swap Round 3 in New Swap Theme Ideas by Mistress Jennie on: October 10, 2014 09:31:04 AM

ornament by lyndseynicole

Hello folks!  I am planning to do a Round 3 of the Harry Potter Holiday Swap this year and wanted to get the word out early to those who might be interested.

Here are the details I am planning on...

Sign Ups: November 1st-11th
Send Outs: December 9th  (That's 4 weeks of crafting time.)

Requirements: 1 Small crafted item (1-2 hours crafting time), themed around HP and the holidays.
Please note that while many folks in the swap will celebrate Christmas, this swap is open to EVERYONE and swappers are welcome to ask for Yule, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, New Year's other other holiday themes if they prefer.

Partners:  Swappers may choose to have up to 3 partners, but first time swappers will be limited to 1 partner.
You may also Invite Your Partner (IYP) for this swap!  This is a great way to swap with someone you have a Craftster-Crush on.  But please be aware that I will only accept partnerings where both sides agree.  If you ask someone, and they say they are not interested, please don't take it personally.  They may already have a partner in mind they are asking, or may wish to limit themselves in their swaps at the holiday season.

Here is a link to Harry Potter Holiday Swap Round 2

If you are interested, leave a comment in this thread and I will be sure to leave a reminder message when the swap signups open.  Cheesy
