211  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Ongoing ATC Swap on: March 16, 2009 06:32:59 PM
I was exploring the ATC boards recently and stumbled upon the Ongoing ATC Swap and thought how brilliant it would be to do that again.

https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=116380.0

It would operate like the other Ongoing swaps where it would be in chain style and you would be restricted to 10 unfulfilled claims at a time. Each person would post between 3 - 10 themes to pick from, and the claimer would pick a claim and then list their own themes.

Anyone interested? I wouldn't be able to organize for a while, but if anyone else wants to I'd love to jump on board. Otherwise, I'll probably wanna jump start this swap in May sometime.
212  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Swappers not communicating, next step on: March 15, 2009 10:30:08 AM
I am currently organizing a swap that has two participants who have not posted at all or only once in the discussion and I'm growing concerned that they may be flakers. I've sent PMs to these individuals as well as their partners to see if there is any communication going on that I'm not aware of. I have also asked their partners to hold off on sending their packages until further notice.

If they turn out to be flakers, what should I do with the partners who have fulfilled their obligations to the swap? Would their feedback be taken off and they can keep their swap packages?

I'm still waiting to hear from the silent swappers but I just want to be cautious and take preemptive measures to avoid flakers for this swap.

Thanks!
213  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Chunky Pages Swap Rd 2 (SIGN UPS CLOSED send out 4/17) on: March 08, 2009 09:07:49 PM
SWAP GALLERY: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=297619.0

Swap name: Chunky Pages Swap Rd 2
Craftster member who is organizing this swap: sheepBlue
Co-Organizer is TwiztidBlood
Sign-up date range: March 9th - 20th
Date to send item by: April 17th
Limited to a certain number of people? (optional): No
Restricted to people who all live in the same country? NO
Age requirement? 13+

Swap Organizer himself/herself meets these conditions:
- Has fully read the Swap Info Guide: YES
- Has successfully completed two swaps as a participant: YES
- Is not organizing more than three swaps right now: YES
- Will recruit a co-organizer or give all details to a Swap Moderator if this swap has more than 25 participants: YES

Swap Organizer will check each participant to make sure they meet these conditions:
- Has been a member for at least one month: YES
- Has posted at least 15 times: YES
- Has completed one swap successfully before signing up for multiple swaps at a time: YES
- Is not currently signed up for more than five swaps: YES
- Does not have any negative feedback: YES
- Participant has agreed that he/she is at least 13 years old: YES

Details of swap:

We will be making 4x4 inch (10x10 cm) chunky pages following each swapper's theme choice. This means each swapper will decide a theme(s) for the chunky pages they wish to receive from each of their other partners. People will be grouped in groups of 5 and will be making one page for each of their partners. This equals 4 chunky pages made with 4 weeks of crafting time - there should be no excuses for sending late! It is up to each person whether they want to send each page as they are completed or as a group, as long as all are sent by the deadline. Swappers will also have the option of being in more than one group; first-time swappers will be limited to one group only for this round (sorry!).

What makes a page chunky?  Two things:  the paper and the embellishments.  You should use a sturdy base for your page -- mat board is ideal.  Lightweight cardboard (think cereal boxes) also works well, as does heavy watercolor paper (140 lb/300 gsm) or multiple layers of cardstock glued *securely* together.  In addition, you can use all kinds of embellishments: buttons, fibers, glass, chunky chunks!  Keep embellishments to a maximum height of 1/4 inch (about 0.6 cm) off the page. Each page should be decorated on the front and the back.  Your major effort should be made on the front, and your artist information will go on the back (at a minimum: your Craftster UserID, the name of this swap, date -- but you can include other information too, as you like).  Please decorate your backs too, but it's not necessary to make them as detailed or elaborate as the front.

Binding Preferences

Left or None:  leave 1/2 an inch (1.25 cm) on the left edge of the page free of embellishments, but design and decorate it all over to your heart's content.

Corners:  leave all 4 corners free of embellishment.  The recipient can then attach the pages by the corners and make a wall-hanging out of them.

Top left corner:  leave the upper left corner free of embellishment, but all other corners and edges are fair game.  The recipient will be punching a hole in the upper left corner and using rings to bind them.

In your questionnaire, you will be asked to specify which type of binding you want, and everyone should follow their partner's preferences when making pages.

Posting: You must post in the swap thread if you join.  It will be our main means of participation, and it will help your partners get to know you.

Mailing:  DCNs and other proof of mailing will not be required.  However, if any of your partners do not receive your page, you must remake one and send it again. Please make sure you send all PMs for sending and receiving to TwiztidBlood. All participants will be required to ship internationally.

Communication:  Please don't hesitate to ask me or TwiztidBlood questions.  It's not possible to communicate with us too much! Make sure to PM TwiztidBlood and your partner when you send and when you receive.  If you are going to send late, make sure to let TwiztidBlood and your partner know.

215  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Card-issues: Why I am addicted to making cards...also chunky page fun! on: March 06, 2009 06:44:09 AM
It started when I joined the Valentine's day card swap...Now I can't stop  Roll Eyes Here's some more  Grin

In case you can't make out the text it says (from L to R, T to B): "The problem with cats is that they get the exact same look on their faces whether they see a moth or an axe murderer." "A little birdie told me that you suck." "My God, what's that smell? That is the smell of desire my lady. God no! It smells like a used diaper...filled with Indian food. You know, desire smells like that to some people." "Would I rather be feared or loved? Both. I want people to be afraid of how much they love me."

The pink rabbit says "Apparently binge drinking causes brain damage." Blue rabbit replies "Whatever. Lots of things cause drain cabbage."

The cat exclaims "OMG Where's the exit?!"

Here are some mini cards  Grin with glue for size reference. From L to R they say "Robots are cool; any by cool, I mean, sweeter than Ninjas and Pirates put together." "The tooth fairy teaches kids that they can sell body parts for money." "If knitting were an exercise, you'd be able to bounce a quarter off my ass." "Putting the 'ho' in housewife." "Zombie boyfriends love you for your brains."

From L to R they say "I'm a junkie but at least I don't share needles." "Boy: You are the most beautiful girl in the world. Girl: You're just saying that. Boy: No! I'm madly in love with you and it's not because of your brains or your personality." "Bunny 1: I made some more candy today! Bunny 2: *sigh* For the last time, your 'brown jelly beans' are not candy!" "Put your big girl panties on and deal with it."

Here's a set of chunky pages I made for a swap. My fave is the last one; I stitched together tiny scraps of cloth to make a ocean of color and the little boat on top finishes the whole thing. There's also a small bead fish in the "water".

Here's a chunky representing the love of words. The writing itself is hard to make out even in person so here's what it all says "Language is the blood of the soul into which thoughts run and out of which they grow.  There is nothing to writing.  All you do is sit down at a typewriter and open a vein.  Words - so innocent and powerless as they are, as standing in a dictionary, how potent for good and evil they become in the hand of one who knows how to combine them.  Language exerts a hidden power, like a moon on the tides.  The pen is mightier than the sword.  I am a galley slave to pen and ink.  Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart.  Words, once they are printed, have a life of their own."

Lastly here another chunky page about Bees. I made the honeycombs out of cut up rubber tubing that I painted and then stuffed some of the holes with this weird beaded foam stuff I have to make it look like wax or something. I like how it turned out minus the fact that I ran out of room for the quote! It says "The bee is more honored than any other animal, not because she labors, but because she...(ran out of room! continued on the back) labors for others."

Please let me know what you think! C and C very much appreciated!
216  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Cross stitch funnies on: February 27, 2009 07:55:29 AM
Here's a handful of my latest creations. A few were turned into valentine cards.

The little picture in the corner is my first attempt at this card. I'm so glad I gave it another go, it looks so much better.

I love this line because its so true! My boyfriend even agreed.

I admit it, I'm a closet romantic.

Made for a swap partner - Snorty is her bitch - literally  Cheesy

Curse donuts being so delicious!
217  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Chunky Book Swap Rd 2? on: February 24, 2009 07:14:56 PM
Here's the link for round 1: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=222843.0

I'd love to be involved in a round 2; I'll organize though I'm not sure I get the "tip-in with a twist" concept though concerning the dates?? Maybe just extending the crafting period and having everyone send all at once would be easier? Or people could have the option of mailing as they go but have to have all chunky pages sent out by the deadline.

Also maybe everyone could decide what theme they want for their own books rather than having one theme for everyone.

Just a few ideas. Anyone else interested???

 Grin
218  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Hand-drawn cards completely random and hilarious on: February 22, 2009 10:01:04 AM
Here's another bunch of cards I've made for a couple of swaps that I'm loving. I need to invest in some really good quality heavy stock paper but until then I think I'm doing alright with the paper I'm using. Its a nice quality but not the heaviest and when I do watercolors on them it gets really wrinkly - I end up sticking them in a phone book overnight to work out the majority of the wrinkles. Anyway, on we go... Cheesy

Here's a bunch that I randomly made but I love them. The knitty ones were made specifically for the lovely lady I was swapping with who loves knitting. For anyone who can't read the cards they say "Really all you need to become a good knitter are yarn, needles, hands, and a slightly-below average intelligence. Of course, superior intelligence such as yours is an advantage." "The only place where housework comes before knitting is in the dictionary." "Sticks and stone may break my bones, but sticks and string excites me."

The pink unicorn is saying "Just give me a gun and an opposable thumb..." (not the happiest camper), the bottom far left is a small comic that shows a boy giving a girl a flower and then in the last square saying "Let's go to a hotel!" (kids move so fast these days), The angel and devil card declares "Come to the Dark Side (We have Cookies)", and the crazed green cat thinks "I think I just had an...evilgasm."
219  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Sharing the LuV! Valentines for adults and kids alike.. on: February 14, 2009 02:03:14 PM
I made a ton of valentines this year, most for the Valentine Classroom card exchange, and I had to share some of my favorites on this board.

Squirrels! Who can't love them? Especially when they sparkle. I found the template for this valentine on a crafty website...I'll have to go back and look up the link.

This dinosaur loves you! And I love him too!

This valentine is more of a hang on your window valentine than anything else. I edited my first attempt to be put next to the second. I like the second a LOT better.

Who doesn't love cake? And you too  Grin

Bunnies spelling out "love" are too cute to miss. The little square of pink in the corner is a picture of the card folded up. Nothing fancy - I let the inside of the card do all the talking.

I found this saying somewhere online and couldn't resist making a card to go along with it.

A simple heart flower on pretty chinese paper (or at least I think it's chinese).

I have even more cards to put up but I'll take more pictures later..

Comments and crits are very welcome! I'm just a newb still but I think these are pretty cool.
