1  Re: HP - I Want to Live in the Burrow Swap - Round 2 GALLERY in The Swap Gallery by sheepBlue on: July 13, 2017 04:02:55 PM
I received a great package from Ant Bee yesterday!

I told her I love collecting fun things to put out on my patio/yard so she pushed herself out of her yarnie comfort zone and made me this awesome mobile that represents the Deathly Hallows (as it is my favorite book of the series).

The first picture doesn't do it justice, but shows the overall mobile - there's two bells at the top and then a really well balanced set of objects dangling below: the invisibility cape, resurrection stone, the unbeatable Wand, and a beautiful suncatching crystal in the middle. The second picture shows this off a little better.

She also included a bunch of fun extras: some super cool postcards that I might have to frame, a witch's hat and Weasley sweater ornaments (the sweater is my FAVE!), and a few extra bobs to have fun crafting with.

I love it all so much Ant Bee, thank you so much for being brave like Harry and having fun with a new crafty challenge. You totally rose to the occasion! Love it!  Cheesy

Thanks bunny!

Here's another mosaic I did for swap that's been received..I sealed in text from some Harry Potter books under the flat marbles with packing tape and the effect turned out really cool.

I also sent a Slytherin themed sun catcher which of course is hard to capture via pictures.

3  Abandoned Art Swap Rd 2 in New Swap Theme Ideas by sheepBlue on: July 08, 2017 06:27:32 AM

Years ago there was an Abandoned Art swap and I'd love to see another one get off the ground!

Here's the discussion and gallery threads.

Who's in?!  Cheesy I'd be willing to organize - maybe a couple of weeks of sign ups in late July/early August, a month for crafting, and then send outs early September? The last swap required 5 small pieces of art to be sent to your partner to be abandoned plus an extra for your partner to keep  Smiley...

Catching up on a few things I've managed to make this year (I'm determined to step up my crafting game)..

Giant mosaic project for me  Smiley

And while technically these yarnbombs were made last year I finally put them out! So I'm counting it!

I got a couple more things to post once a swap package has been received. And getting excited about yarnbombing again I'm in the middle of making a few more to take with me on some adventures coming up. We'll see if it takes me another year to put them out haha.

5  A giant mosaic project to break my crafting dry spell in Glass Crafts: Completed Projects by sheepBlue on: May 31, 2017 04:57:49 PM
I really don't do things by short measures. I've had a bit of a challenge since the beginning of the year finding my crafty drive and inspiration to make things (a fun combo of work and life stress though thankfully that period seems to be waning, yay!). So where the idea and inspiration and, more importantly, motivation came from to tackle this project....I'm at a loss. But it happened and I'm happy it did! Now I have this giant beauty to stare at and ogle....just need to figure out where to put it......

(Damn thing defies taking pictures - I can't help but want to put resin on everything to give it a shiny slick coat and seal everything in.)

We all love progress pictures, yeah? Let's go down the story hole...

The beginning...a collection of coins...that's where the idea started. A mosaic with coins. A big thank you to alteredmommy, LeapFeetFirst, and kwality570 for sending me your spare foreign coins to add the the pile!

I forgot to take pictures until I got as far as laying out the patterns...at this point I decided to also incorporate some beads I had in my stash (though more had to be purchased to fill the board).

This took a week or two of futzing with the placement and whatnot and then it was onto grouting! I learned from the last time I did this that grouting is a huge mess - so I decided to do this step outside....in the hot hot sun. So much fun.

And I conveniently forgot from the last time how long it took to smooth everything out and then having to go back multiple times to wipe off every individual coin and glass shard. This probably took an hour total if I had to guess.

Wipe wipe wipe. Keep wiping.

This picture below is before resin, but after a final polish of the coins and glass. Major difference.

Now all the beauty shots!

Scissors are there for reference. The board itself is 16 x 21 inches. And it's actually a lazy susan, but I'm not sure I actually want to cover it up and have it be used lest it get ruined or something......and I'm still not sure where I'm putting it..

A close up of a couple of cool coins...The one on the right second down reminds me of a niffler from the Wizarding world haha.

And one last close up of the center for a little more detail.

Thanks for looking!
