361  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Vintage Craft Projects / Re: Sassy Magazine "Making It" on: March 18, 2005 04:02:12 PM
This Sassy thread has made me nostalgic for the Star Hits of yore, before they decided to just come right out and call themselves "Smash Hits" and blew chunks.

The project from Sassy I remember was the DIY very-of-the-moment bubble skirt.

While wearing a long full skirt  (which had previously been the rage), fold the hem under so that it popped out of the top of the inside of the skirt and wear a wide elastic belt around the whole mess.  Voila!  The skirt bottom is now bubbly and the hem makes a "cute ruffle" on top peeking over the belt.

I distictly remember this one because my sister had a subscription and the day after she got her magazine in the mail, three girls at my school showed up wearing that.

No wait, maybe that was Seventeen...
362  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Re: Joann pattern sales? on: March 15, 2005 04:47:38 PM
If you're anywhere in the Los Angeles aea (but I think it's probably a nationwide sale), Joann's is having a sale on Vogue patterns ($4.49 each) from March 17-19, a sale on Butterick and McCall's patterns ($1.29 each) also from March 17-19 and a sale on Simplicity patterns ($1.99 ) from March 24-26.  The March 24-26 sale includes 50% off the notions wall!  Yeah!  Notions!!

Wow!   Shocked  I love, love, LOVE that fabric!!!  Is that the Madison bag from the Amy Butler pattern?  What did you use for the bottom to make it stiff enough?
