41  Bird Silhouette Triptych Paintings in Interior Decorating: Completed Projects by SkyyAngel on: February 15, 2009 02:45:10 PM
Something I whipped up for my new craft room (haven't moved in yet but I'm already going nuts with "nesting" so to speak). Total cost was about $10 for the 3 pieces and some acrylic paints and brushes. Would've been cheaper but most of my materials (paints, brushes, etc) are still in transit somewhere so I had to pick up some new ones.

Anywho... here it is. I got the idea and general design from the internet somewhere. Could be here on Craftster or random internet searching. I forget where and am really sorry I can't give credit to any original. Just know it's not my design at all. I chose colors to go with my new room and that's basically all my input.

42  Feather Painting in More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works by SkyyAngel on: February 15, 2009 02:22:16 PM
Some feathers I painted quite a bit ago (about 4 or 5 years I think):

My favorite:

My not so favorite:

And two I gifted to my grandparents (sorry for the glare, they've long been framed and hanging on the walls and I didn't want to take them down just for one shot):

Just finally got the chance to take photos of the grandparents' so I figured I'd post and share.  Grin

43  First attempt at punchneedle in Needlework: Completed Projects by SkyyAngel on: February 07, 2009 06:25:10 PM
Just a little Dimensions kit....

I think I kinda like punchneedle. It has some definite possibilities.... I'm still working out getting the backside to look neater but I think it's good for a first try.

44  Weathered wood fence into beautiful frame! in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by SkyyAngel on: February 07, 2009 06:22:09 PM
So I finished this flag cross-stitch piece I've been working on for about 2 years or so recently (more details here: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=288236.msg3268845#msg3268845) and begged my grandpa to make me a frame for it.

He finally finished it today and here's the photos!

It's made from recycled wood fence. The neighborhood homeowner's association was replacing a perimeter-type fence with some newer wood and my grandpa got a whole bunch of the wood for free. I talked him into using a couple pieces for my frame but he still has oodles out in the garage. He's going to use them to cover the garage wall which will become a sort of paneling when he turns it into his poker room.

He's upset because it's not *perfect* but what can you do with weathered/warped wood? Besides, I like it and think it gives it character.  Tongue

My only real tip is to clip the corners diagonally. The less fabric there, the "smoother" the corner lies when you flip it rightside out and the more professional everything looks.

47  Another messenger bag for my BFF - Love Owls and Froggies oh my! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SkyyAngel on: December 23, 2008 12:24:31 PM
I made yet another messenger bag for my friend this time (thank God, she doesn't really like pockets). Just thought I'd share a few quick photos.

Without the flap on:

Inside pocket and keyfob:

Back pocket with buttons for the removable flaps:

Flap with "love owls":

Thanks for looking!  Grin

Oh... PS - can someone please reassure me that the frog at least looks like a frog? My husband is somewhat unimaginative as it is but he worried me when he said he didn't see a frog at all.  Undecided  I mean, that looks like a frog, right?

48  Re: How or where do you store your embroidery supplies? in Needlework: Discussion and Questions by SkyyAngel on: November 30, 2008 12:48:05 PM
I store singular projects in their own "UniKeep" (plastic binder with 2 sections). One side has the floss in DMC stitchbows and their page protectors, while the other side has the pattern in page protectors along with a small pencil bag for scissors, highlighters, pens, extra needles, etc. The bag migrates from project to project and isn't shown here.

Patterns are printed out and stored in labeled binders (off to the left in the photo):

Unikeeps are lined up and labeled with active projects. I have the stitchbow binders semi-organized with the extra DMC floss stash and am trying to find something for my silks. Fabrics are separated into solids and patterns and stored there as well. All my hoops/Q-Snaps are in the gold/black bag hanging in the front. All the other stuff (extra needles, more silk floss, extra scissors, etc) are in a few boxes here and there that I'll eventually decorate and probably label again... lol. I love my labellings.

49  Hand Turkey says hello!! (+ hand wreath, hooties and country windmill) in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SkyyAngel on: November 16, 2008 09:09:21 AM
So I made my mom a purse: https://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=268968.msg3031190#msg3031190

Among the changeable flaps she requested were a windmill country scene, something with cardinals, and some seasonal ones for the holidays. So here's what I ended up doing....

I emailed my little brother and sister (20 and 22 years old respectively) and had them mail me tracings of their hands. I made my own as well. Scanned them into the computer and reduced them all to 40% (they're slightly larger than an infants hand) and reprinted them out. Using wonder-under and my small hand cut-outs I cut our hands out of fabric to make a facsimile of those cheesy kindergarten holiday crafts we were always bringing home as kids.

So here they are:

Hand Turkey!! (yeah, that's my right hand with the brown felt)

Hands wreath:

And a windmill country scene I painted. Also used leather cording to create "barbed wire" for a 3-D effect.I haven't finished this flap yet, it still needs another side. Plus, I'm not a painter by any means so it's not as nice as I hoped it would look....

Finally, some love hooties I did for my best friend's purse. I still need to finish the other side of this flap too.

The hooties are inspired by a post I saw here. Someone had done a laptop protector with porcupines on it in a similar fashion, and posted they'd gotten the idea from some pillows and included a link. A version of these owls were on another pillow at the same link.  Tongue

Anywho... that's all I've gotten done for the day.  Grin
