1  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: New (Tiny) Art Journal on: February 11, 2017 04:37:37 PM
Glad I could help, and sorry if the first attempt of an explanation was more confusing than anything else.

I'd love to see the results if/when one of you actually ends up doing a journal this way Smiley

Erdbeerblau I would find it helpful to see pictures if you have time to show what you mean. I'm trying to imagine what that looks like but I haven't got a lot of experience book binding so I'm a bit confused...

Alright I don't have a book to show you right now, but I tried to make a quick sketch. (blue is the spacer, green the regular paper)

Basically you can insert as many spacer layers as you need, I guess it needs a bit of experimenting to see what works best. I have made a few books using a spacer around every other signature, and what works fine too.

I hope this makes it a bit more clear? Smiley

That's such a nice project Smiley

I know it's a bit late for this one, but I have a tip for the spacing and collages:
When I'm binding a book that will get a lot of stuff glued into, I "cheat" by making spacers out of thick paper or very thin cardboard:
I just get strips of the thick paper that are about 1 centimetre, or half an inch or something - and wrap them around the signatures. Then sew the signatures as you usually would. So each signature will have it's own small spacer paper layer that accomodates for the collage materials.

Just binding a book very loose never really works as it will get all floppy and tear apart because a loose sewn binding is not very stable.

Have fun creating your journal!

I was really inspired by your needle case, so last week I made my own.

Yours is so much cleaner and neater, but I thought you might want to see it: http://www.angela.is/erdbeerblau/2014/10/needles

Thank you so much for the idea Smiley

That looks great! Do you remember where you found the pattern?
If you're doing steampunk, you could also use buckles instead of buttons. Small ones are pretty cheap when bought in bulk  Smiley

It's great that you are feeling better now! *hug* (if consent)

These are totally awesome. I am jealous of them. I should make some, no?

Thanks!

I think everyone should make a pair. Or a few Wink

I imagine some thick felt would work great as well
