1  I rocked so hard I had to cozy my guitar! in CHALLENGE 30 ENTRIES by Vulvaline on: September 04, 2008 03:41:51 PM
This is my first challenge and while pondering what I was going to cozy (art?, window fan?, printer?, keyboard?, tv?, beakers, stove?, tv remote?) I rocked some guitar hero and it hit me like a ton of bricks!  Doi.  My remote guitar, of course!

While in the middle of a good long streak, lars' fingers caught fire and I thought 'that dude sure could use a cozy, and since finger cozies are also known as gloves or mittens, i figured the guitar was the next best thing!

So I made him one...it's not quite as norse metal as him, but it's cool nonetheless.

2  What a weekend! (includes pictures, shrinkies, needlepoint, resin, and buttons) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: August 03, 2008 12:56:40 AM
I am starting to think that perhaps I, your friendly Vulvaline, am growing more ADD everyday.  I just haven't got the attention span that I used to for working with one medium at a time, so here's a sample of some of the things I got busy doing this weekend.  (which is kinda surprising as it's my birthday weekend and my dudegirl was in town...between the tattoos and sightseeing, it's amazing that I got any darned thing done!)

critiques welcome.

first: a couple of shrinkydinks that are fixin' to become pendants.

the weirdness on her is a bag that stuck to the back of her...she's in process of being repaired at the moment...

second: button earrings.  green chandeliers, slate teardrops, pink danglies, and multi- danglies.

third: needlepoint (with buttons).  the pink canvas shows on acci-purpose!

and fourth but never least!  my true love, resin. (with fabric and solder)  although, i think the solder ones are going back to being pendants...

the little one doesn't look nearly as good as it does in life, i'm afraid.

thanks for peeking!

3  my (fairly) productive evening...(includes some resin and tons of photos) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: July 27, 2008 06:05:13 AM
i got the crafting bug again last night, and while we watched movies, i needlepointed, drilled, and strung...

may i introduce to you the fruits of my most recent labor:

these are gorgeously dyed deep blue alpaca yarn needle pointed and strung...i know they're a bit fuzzy, but i guess that's the joy of alpaca, either trim it or stop bitching! hhehehehe

orange n.p.

and some expensive hand dyed variegated that i never liked in projects until now

and now for the resin:

i found these super 1/2" x 1/2" molds that hold about 100 pieces...so yes, ma'am i cut a buncha fabric and started on my earrings! these are 2 piece skulls...

and the houndstooth made famous in my previous belt buckle post...

more 1/2" cubes in drop loops...i know all about the bubbles, it was ambitious of me to try to embed hundred pieced of fabric, plus my normal pour...

and finally...dinner service...

thanks for taking a look, comments/critiques welcome and very much appreciated.

4  inspired by fellow craftsters... in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: July 25, 2008 03:38:55 PM
due to ridiculous time constraints laid upon me by having to work full plus plus time and my desire to make mountains o' things, these are fairly simple.  they were inspired by postings of button earrings and the comments made about them...

buttons, chains, and one set of resin earrings.  they are splayed out for photo taking, but i've included some action shots so you can see how they hang. (fine, thankyouverymuch.)  heheheh

thanks for peeking.

first, the resin...the requisite needle and thread.  not quite true to color, but close

now the buttons...splayed

and finally, action, baby!

...so, anyways, i just wanted to take a moment and say thanks y'all for being so inspiring, informative, and welcoming.

5  super simple, but cute...and handy too! in Needlework: Completed Projects by Vulvaline on: July 25, 2008 02:40:48 PM
so i ran across this idea in some random mag in a waiting room.  couldn't wait to get home and make one for my sweetie.  it barely took any time at all, and she dug it!

anyways here it is...the needlepointed ipod case.  will fit the biggest and baddest of them all.

6  Re: neither jewelry nor trinkets...beltbuckles! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: July 19, 2008 12:06:00 PM
oh, y'all are too kind!

anyways...here's how I turned them into buckles...the glue job on this one is sloppy, i'll give you that, but these were intended to rivet onto leather, and I am uber paranoid about my wares falling apart.  I can now say that I have worn mine to work every day for a week plus and no troubles at all!!! (i'm an industrial mechanic by trade, so that's saying something.)

can't remember the website I got them at, but i will look thru my invoices and get back to you on that one.  i found them originally by googling belt buckle findings.

can't wait to get going on more in-depth pieces now that I'm gaining familiarity with this medium.

7  neither jewelry nor trinkets...beltbuckles! in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: July 18, 2008 03:23:02 PM
so, i love belt buckles.  big ol' belt buckles! these aren't huge, the ovals are approx 3.5" by 2.5" and the rectangles are about 4" by 3", but they're cool as h.e.double hockeysticks!

as per my usual, I've embedded fabric (mostly of the vintage variety), needle and thread, and also vintage appliques.  the HOT one was merely for cheese factor.  we found a veritable f-ton of them at an art re-use shop and have no idea what to do with them, so...toss it in the resin, babe!

soon, I'll be posting the mix/match belts that I'm making to go along with them...
lemme know whatcha think!

8  time to share my resin joy...(pictures for days) in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: July 13, 2008 01:23:39 PM
I've not been doing resin all that long, but geez-oh-wow, am I in love!

mostly I put fabrics in.  I am a full-fledged textile-file!  I've also been using sewing accoutrement (needles, threads, bobbins), toys, electrical supplies, and schwag from around the house in general...

hope you enjoy, I did!

tie tacks/ lapel pins:

an overview of part of a display board: pendants

circle, square, diamond

what got me hooked on resin in the first place...needle and thread!

the cutest record player ever! (it's a matte finish, and didn't photo super clear)

detail shot - solder splosh in resin

and finally, a close up of my new favorite for the moment, textiles of buildings...

thanks for checking these out, comments/critiques welcome and appreciated

9  Cranio-rrarium in Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General by Vulvaline on: July 10, 2008 04:19:07 PM
i'm not quite sure this is where my post belongs, but this is definitely where it's landing.

i did this for my darlin' as a x-tothe-mas present. and she loved it!

*note...remember if you do a terrarium that's un-openable like this one...put some holes in a slightly hidden spot so the plants can breathe.*

i, unfortunately, learned the hard way.

hopes you likes!...btw, I'm almost to 10 posts, but for now a link is the best I can do.
