31  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / Craftster Craft Challenge Theme Ideas, Etc. / [ACCEPTED] if you can break it, you can make it! on: March 20, 2016 05:10:45 AM

I would love to see a challenge that calls for first busting something up, then using the bits to create something entirely different.

Not just china, but musical instruments, dismembered dolls, shredded greeting cards, furniture, purses, board games, greatcoats, rugs, old cars, ye old dog house, bicycles, the list goes on. Requirement is you need to get out your sledgehammers (or seam rippers, same thing) and take apart at least 50 percent of your original item(s) then create something using the parts. Only added items are from the original item(s) and glue or other fastenings.

Wow, I will be there would be some seriously cool entries for this!!
32  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / One Tiny Snarky Thing on: March 09, 2016 06:46:48 AM

Apparently, snarky is the new black.
I seem to be on a tiny thing kick. I see snark all over Craftster and wonder who would be up for this. The possibilities seem endless (and fun.) !  Tongue
33  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / So many catfood cans, so little time!! on: March 07, 2016 09:19:47 AM

I continue to recycle those 3-inch cat food cans and wonder each time I do, what I could be creating with them. Finally came up with something. This is a magnet for my fridge.

I began with painting the night sky with deep blue nail polish. Stars are just acrylic paint. Then I laid lower and background paper for the sea.

Next I inserted the ship (I knew I was saving that Sailing Guide book for something!!) and added three layers of various waves.

the quote around the edging was a real challenge. I cut a long strip, scored it down the middle, wrote out the words with each letter well separated so I could cut individually and fold out. It took three attempts to get it right. I measured twice and glued once. It did not come out even for some reason. had to rip it off and start over. Finally got the text to start at the bottom evenly. very delicate glueing going on here!!

I did not have any ribbon for edging but did have a large blue zipper. I simply cut the edge off and used that for the peacock blue edging around the circle.

thanks for looking!  It was fun (mostly) and I am happy with the result.

36  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Completed Projects / Oh, I'm so ashamed!!!!! on: February 14, 2016 11:56:02 AM

Isn't that what poor old Sadie looks like she is thinking?  I just finished grooming her and tons of fluff came off. She is eleven, I am staying with her for the weekend, and she was sortof tolerant about being brushed.
I had all this fluff in my hand and was headed for the trash. Then I thought, "hey, I'm a Craftster!!"
Thusly, I turned the fluff into a kitty play ball that my own elderly Danielle will get when I return home. Wow, these things are simple to make!!
37  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / She's 85 and still making a living crafting. on: February 06, 2016 10:33:23 AM
I just spent three wonderful days down in Boston with an 85-year old friend who has been supporting herself crafting for the past 50 years. I learned that her birthday is in a few days so I rushed home and made this shadow box depicting her craft room. while I was there, she was working on 'the dreaded Christmas balls' and fuming about it. So I had to make sure I had a box of them on the floor!

The painting on the upper left wall is a lot like those she does depicting local landmarks.

I adore miniature stuff but could not make this too small, as she had a stroke last year and it greatly affected her eyesight so she can no longer see small things. when I was there, I did lots of tiny work for her that she could no longer do. What a blast we had.

She was working with tweezers this week and kept dropping them in her trash where I had to hunt them down. So I also had to be sure to include her trash basket in this box!
thanks for looking!  It was a rush job to get into the post on time for her to get it for turning 86, but I think it came out ok.

39  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Earrings...what to do with 100 saved kitty whiskers on: January 19, 2016 06:28:18 AM

My collection, after having my own kitties, and fostering many, is over a thousand. On sofas and chairs, on the carpet, on my knees. I love spotting them and popping them into my pocket, where they often go thru the wash and are lost.  I figured I could spare a hundred to make a pair of earrings.
No one I encounter has been able to guess what they are made of. Most guesses involve the word feathers.
These are two years old now and holding up well
