81  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Labyrinth needle book book on: January 18, 2010 02:51:42 PM
yes, book is in the title twice again.  Smiley  but that's what it is.  it's a needle book made to look like the Labyrinth book Sarah has in the movie.  you may be familiar with the New Moon book I made similar to this.  it's in my signature if you'd like to see that too.

it's an oversized needle book.  it has pages to put sewing needles in as well as a strip of Aida cloth on the inside cover for cross stitch/embroidery needles.

I really wish I would have saved the pictures, but I went through the movie and took screen captures of times when Sarah was showing the cover of the labyrinth book used in the movie.  it doesn't have little people on the front, but I knew I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to use them.  I searched for hours for them, I wasn't about to let them go to waste.  Grin
82  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / pretty Labyrinth-inspired pincushion on: January 18, 2010 02:36:03 PM
so I got this idea from kmichele_craftyfae.  it was so cute, I had to make one for my Labyrinth swap partner.  and I think it came out pretty cute if I do say so myself.  here it is:

I even glued 4 different Swarovski crystal beads to the tops of the pins.  the colors are pink alabaster, crystal, crystal aurora borealis, and rose water opal.

whatcha think?
83  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / more made with Klutz's Fantasy paper fashions!!! on: December 28, 2009 02:04:48 PM
I sat down and made some more.  Grin  if you didn't see my first 2, check here.

first we have a pink fairy.  she will NOT flatten!!!  grrr!!!  I guess I need heavier books.  oh well.

then I made a snow maiden (I know the picture link says queen, but maiden is actually more fitting).  her hooded cape is made from a piece of sticky-back glitter sheet.  it was SO annoying to get it on there just right, and as you can see, it kind of makes the whole thing bow.  but when I stick it to a piece of paper, I'm sure it'll lay flat.

next is a one piece mermaid getup.  let me tell you, getting those sequins and seed beads on there was a pain, but I like how they look.  Grin

lastly, a red and black witch's dress.  again, I couldn't get the ribbons flat (again, I guess I need heavier books), but you can't really tell here.  it's funny trying to get this piece flat.  because of the little square jobies on her boots, I have to leave her feet sticking out of the bottom of the book.  it kind of looks like the Wicked Witch of the West has now been flattened by a book.  Cheesy  and her leggings are actually red, not pink.

check out this book!  you can use these on bookmarks, cards, tags, etc.  it gets addicting.
84  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Look what I made with Klutz's Fantasy paper fashions!!! on: December 14, 2009 02:02:16 PM
when I first saw this here on Craftster, I had to have it.  I had to have Capsters too, but Borders was all out so I had to order it.  Sad  but this (plus everything else I do) will keep me plenty busy until it comes.

first we have a beautiful masquerade ball gown:

then I made a jester's costume:

there are so many possibilities with this kit, plus you can always use your own paper if you don't find what you want inside.  I have some black velvet paper I plan on using for a gown soon.  or maybe even a catsuit.  Grin
85  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Fatal Frame 2 and Spawn cross stitched bookmarks on: November 17, 2009 03:47:38 PM
I'd been needing more bookmarks, and after making some pretty nice cross stitched ones for swap partners, I decided to make some for myself.

the first one is based on one of my favorite video games called Fatal Frame 2: Crimson Butterfly.  this is Mio Amakura and a crimson butterfly:

the second one is based on one of my favorite comic/movie/video game characters named Spawn.  I love Spawn:

whatcha think?  Smiley

I wanted to add that I got the sprites from the following places:
Mio Amakura - Zodiac Brave
Crimson Butterfly (I edited the colors for my personal use) - A Butterfly
Spawn - Lord Zymeth @ The Spriters Resource
86  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / fat, calories, sodium, cholesterol...how do you cut down in homemade recipes?? on: October 02, 2009 10:09:00 PM
I was just looking through my mom's latest copy of Good Housekeeping and drooling over the recipes inside for soups and other goodies.  at the bottom of the recipes, they included fat content, sodium content, etc.  I understand that most of the foods you buy at the store have high sodium content as a preservative or whatever, and that they are more likely to be higher in cholesterol and all that for whatever reason, but why would they be so high in something that is made in your own kitchen?  one item I looked at had just shy of 1,000mg of sodium!  another had 31mg of cholesterol!  my parents and I all recently had blood work done (mine was far more through than theirs) and when we got the results back, my dad's cholesterol was in the "at risk" range while mine and my mom's were...well...a little higher than that.  high cholesterol runs in my mom's family and while we don't know about my family (I'm adopted) or my dad's family, we do know that we all need to watch mainly our cholesterol.  with high cholesterol plus heart disease in mom's family, dad only has one full artery in his lower legs (look at this picture.  see how below the knee it splits into 3 "main" arteries?  he only has the largest one.  the other 2 never formed.  it gets blocked off, he'll lose his feet), and I have benign (so I've been told) heart "issues", we all need to watch our everything intake.  how does one do that in homemade recipes??

I'm sorry about the rant, but I want us all to be in good health.  I worry about losing them every day, and not just to health related issues.  it's a major pain in the @$$ standing in the grocery store reading labels.  I'm almost to the point where I wish I could be vegan, but I like meat too much (though animal fats are bad), and I can't survive on fruits and vegetables alone.  I'm so torn!  I'm going through enough as it is right now, I don't need to be stressed about the foods I eat.  can anyone help?  my family and I would greatly appreciate it.
87  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / New Moon needle book book on: September 08, 2009 03:58:24 PM
yes, I know I put book in the title twice.  but that's because it's a needle book that looks like a book.  it has a black cover and white pages.  so, it's a book.  Grin

front cover of the pattern I designed:

spine with the book title:

it took me forever to make this and my fingers never hurt so much.
88  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Beads: Completed Projects / Washington starfish bracelet and Bella's Cottage earrings on: September 08, 2009 03:52:58 PM
since my partner has received for the Twilight swap, I can finally post some things I am very proud of.

first is the bracelet of starfish I made from beaded starfish that you might find lying on the beaches of western Washington state (oh yes, I did my research on this).

then, a pair of earrings inspired by Bella's cottage.  the key she was given with a soft pink bow, a sparkly blue bead that looks like the night sky, and some sparkly blue crystals like flowers in the garden.

89  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / picture hosting, out of curiosity on: August 23, 2009 12:21:03 PM
I found out about this while trying to find a member's gallery.

why was the picture hosting page not fully changed over?  was it forgotten?  or is there a real reason why?  what I mean is, the picture hosting page is a mix of the old cork board-like layout with the new blue and white background.

again, just out of curiosity.  Smiley
90  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / My Little Pony and Kingdom Hearts cross stitch on: August 08, 2009 08:20:35 PM
these were for 2 different swaps.  they have both been received, so I am safe to post them.

for the first swap, I made some things based on the video games in the Kingdom Hearts series.  this is a Riku card from Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories that I made into a patch:

this is the sprite I used:

the second is Buttons from My Little Pony.  I put this one on the cover of a needle book.  I had originally planned on doing that, but then I ran across this needle book by cacauate and based mine on it:

this is the sprite I used:

I decided to add the sprites I used for these projects.  Smiley
