41  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Discussion and Questions / goopy acrylic paint on: January 26, 2013 03:02:57 PM
what do I do about goopy acrylic paint?  what really makes me mad is that the bottle was brand new with the plastic seal still around the cap.  the problem seems to have been the fact that the cap was loose.  I only think this because when I took the cap off (after trying to squeeze paint out of the bottle and nothing happening), I didn't have to use any force.  a small amount of the paint is normal, but when that gets used up, I'm still left with a nearly full bottle of ooey, gooey sunshine yellow mess.  is there anything I can use to make it useable again, or is it a lost cause that can only be solved by buying a new bottle?
42  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / Silent Hill shadowbox on: January 23, 2013 12:38:46 AM
I was on a roll!  I technically finished this one last night too, but I didn't get around to taking a picture.

so by now, you may or may not know about my Resident Evil shadowbox and my Twilight Shadowbox.  if those weren't enough (which they weren't), I also made a shadowbox based on the latest installment of the Silent Hill movie franchise and the game it's based on [Silent Hill 3]:

I made the cookie tin based on rackycoo's Altered Altoid Tin Tutorial.  is it just me, or is it hard to find the Altoids smalls tins?  I finally found a 3 pack at Wal-Mart (and then singles at Hobby Lobby).  I tried to get it as close to this as I could:

that's an actual picture from Silent Hill 3.  the picture I wanted to use had words on it, so I had to go with a different one.  but I'm still happy with how it turned out.  Smiley

next up...well, you'll see.  Tongue

it's finally finished.  Grin Grin Grin

after finishing my Resident Evil shadowbox, I was inspired to make more based on movies I've seen and loved in the theater (and which ones I can find my ticket stubs for.  I seem to have misplaced my stub for "The Hunger Games" though.  Sad)  this time I've made a "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2" shadowbox.

I do have the apple in there because that's what started it all.  and every time I make something Twilight related, I like to throw an apple in there if I can.  Wink  I even painstakingly made little pictures for Renessme's locket.  if you look closely at Bella and Edward's pictures, you can see that they're rimmed in red.  I wanted to use black ink, but I couldn't find my black ink pad (which I had to move to get to the red one.  how stupid am I?) so I thought the red would be kinda cool.  and I really like it.  the jewelry display was a bit of a letdown since it is more than the depth of the box, but since it's so black in there, it works.  Smiley  the box wasn't in the greatest of shape.  it seemed to have been beat up during manufacturing, so I lined it with black velvet paper to hide dents and scratches on the inside.  measure twice cut once?  yeah right.  I measured like 5 times and still made the paper strips more narrow than they were supposed to be.  Roll Eyes

anyways, I'm pretty happy with it overall.  I do wish the crest had been like a cameo cabochon, but you gotta work with what you have.  or in my case, what you don't have.  Wink
44  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / bullet shell necklace on: January 07, 2013 04:28:09 AM
I finally got a hold of some bullet shells after all the pins I have for different ideas of what to do with them.  Grin

I made this one with a Luger 9mm and goldstone point.  I had made one with a tiny quartz point but I'm not very happy with it, so you won't see it here.  at least, not until I have another look at it to see if I can make it like this one.

now I need more points!!!  I still have some quartz ones, but I want to make a variety.  this was my only goldstone that just happened to be in a bead mix I got a while back.  hope you like!
45  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / wine cork necklaces on: January 07, 2013 04:22:22 AM
so after pinning at least 2 inspirational pictures of people using wine corks to make fabulous necklaces and decorations, I finally got around to making my own.  it was going to just be one, but while looking for pieces to use for the first one, I came across a second cork I had forgotten that I had.  happy surprise!  Grin

the first cork necklace comes from a $40 bottle of Anubis from Caduceus Cellars (for those who don't know, yes, that is Maynard James Keenan of Tool/A Perfect Circle/Puscifer fame).

the second cork necklace comes from a bottle of Gnarly Head.

I fell in love with these after all was said and done.  now I need more corks!!!  lol.
46  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Completed Projects / "flower" arranging on: January 06, 2013 07:45:39 PM
ok, so in this case it's fern arranging.  my parents wanted a fern to go in their bathroom on the little dividing wall between the shower and bath tub.  they had found others that they liked already assembled/arranged at Michaels for in the kitchen, but they just couldn't find one they liked for this area.  so, I went to Hobby Lobby with my dad to look at some completed ferns, but again, he couldn't find anything he liked.  then he thought maybe we could make one.  find the right container, buy some fake ferns, a little moss and some floral foam and we'd be set.  he found the perfect basket, we grabbed some chartreuse moss, pins, a fern, and an extra frond.  sat down today to put it all together.  he had to cut a little off the shaft of the fern since I'm so weak, and the center piece of the fern was way too tall, so he cut that down too.  then, I stuffed it all in the foam and it looked perfect.  it took it back out so I could add the moss with pins and a little glue, put the fern back in, added the frond, and ta-da!  a new, one-of-a-kind potted fern!  and it only cost $29.03!!!  SMALLER ones were upwards of $100, on sale at 50% off.  doing it this way, they got what they wanted and saved over $70!!!  actually, I had a coupon for the fern and the basket was 50% off, so even if they were full price, we still would have saved about $65.

whatcha think?  I'm pretty happy with it and I now want to make more!!!  maybe even make something with flowers this time!  Grin
47  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Darth Vader cookies cross stitch on: December 30, 2012 04:12:25 PM
I'm sure many of you have seen this before, but if you haven't, get ready to smile.  Smiley

a lot of people may have at least seen the t-shirt, but someone went and made a cross stitch pattern for it.  a friend on Facebook asked me if I could make it for her, so I did.  Smiley

I just love this pattern!  it's so funny!  Grin

I forgot to mention that this was done on 22 count Aida.  so it'll fit into a 5x7 frame with a little space around the outside of the border.
48  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Resident Evil shadowbox on: December 16, 2012 04:41:47 AM
cackling.  or maniacal laughter.  you choose what you feel sounds best when it comes to the sound I'm making just thinking about this project.

back in September, my neighbors and I went to see "Resident Evil: Retribution" in 3D.  I loved it.  then again, I love the whole franchise and can't wait for the next installment.  anyway, I wanted to make a showdowbox to show my love for RE and the fun I had with my neighbors.  I even wanted to include the 3D glasses.  I was only inspired though when I FINALLY got a hold of some spent bullet cases.  I bought the shadowbox one day when it was sale at 50% off and I had a coupon for an additional 25% off (I should have bought more!!!  I have at least 2 more clambering around in my head, dying to get out), but then it just sat around for all of November.  finally tonight...excuse me, this morning I decided to at least look around for an image I could use for the background.  the ideas in inspiration just EXPLODED from there.  I'll show you what ended up happening.  Grin

(click the picture to see it bigger/zoom)

you can still see a couple of spots where the paint is still a tad wet, and some of the glue was still a little tacky, so I made quick with the picture taking since I had to lay it down to get a good shot.  if you're familiar with the movie franchise, you'll know what the "A" means in my mind.  Tongue  in reality, I'm not sure what it stands for.  but anyway, I just LOVE how it turned out.  oh, and here's a picture I took in my bathroom after I played around with paint splatters for a bit:

49  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General / Silent Hill 3 inspired jewelry!!! on: November 02, 2012 01:03:01 AM
I see there is a lack of Silent Hill jewelry on Craftster (and I'm kinda sad.  I'd love to have more inspiration here!!), so I figured I better show this set off.  Grin

my neighbor and I have become really good friends since I moved here, and yesterday we decided to go see the new Silent Hill: Revelation 3D movie.  I really enjoyed it, by the way.  anyhow, I am OBSESSED with the Silent Hill franchise and I thoroughly enjoy wearing clothing and jewelry inspired by the movie I'm about to go see (had it not been 90 degrees that day, I would have worn my house robes to see the final Harry Potter movie) or just to walk out of the house.  I was so sad because I had nothing for Silent Hill.  I looked around Deviantart for a while and listened to some music from the game trying to be inspired...when it hit me!  Heather's pendant!  but I didn't have the kind of pendant I could put a jewel in (all of mine are the type you put pictures in).  then I remembered I had a pocket watch my dad got somewhere that had a lame fish on the front, so he gave it to me to use in my jewelry.  the pieces began to fall into place as I looked through the strategy guide.  I had everything I needed (or at least good replacements), and started putting things together.  I had to pop off the cover of the watch so you could see inside at all times, and used the empty hinge area to add a pendant.

ANYWAY!!!!!!!!!!!  (sorry if I rambled)  on to the picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!  and yes, I used the strategy guide as my background.  Tongue

keys - you find them and need them in every Silent Hill game. trying to find them and running into so many locked doors will make you wish your character could pick locks
red shoe - solves the Cinderella puzzle at Lakeside Amusement Park
doll head - solves the Snow White puzzle at Lakeside Amusement Park
Otherworld Laws (book) - contains info on cult symbolism in Silent Hill
silver coin - solves the soda machine puzzle at Hilltop Center
moonstone - unlocks the door engraved with a moon in Reverse Side Mall Corridor
Aglaophotis (red jewel) - use it or die

hope you enjoy!
50  Halloween / Halloween Decor and Parties / decorated funkins!!!!! on: October 13, 2012 04:44:10 PM
so my neighbor bought me 3 funkins (on sale of course) in exchange for some jewelry.  I've made a couple of pieces so far and even fixed another set, but I still have more to make.  we've decided to do Halloween crafting together, so I've been going over there to decorate stuff.  so far I've done 2 of my 3 funkins.

I HAD to have this first one because it looks like a candy corn, and I'm obsessed with the stuff.  Cheesy  I just used some black puffy paint to add the swirled dots and glued some golden rhinestones on it, being careful not to take away from the candy cornness of it.  Grin

then about a week ago, she was finally able to find a couple of black pumpkins, and I made that thing sparkle!  I loved the color of the big green ones on the top, but I was running out of them and they didn't come any smaller, but I thought the blue ones worked well with them.  but then I decided I didn't want so much blue and asked for my friend's opinion.  together we agreed that adding the dark pink rhinestones would make it all pop.  I LOVE how it turned out.

I still have a little white one to decorate, but I'm stuck on it's design.  I want to cut it though.  I still have other things to decorate while I mull over some ideas.  whatcha think?
