11  My first dress-brown and white poka dots in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by missgurle17 on: April 08, 2005 07:52:53 PM
SO I went to Joann's about a month ago with the 99cent pattern sale, bought some patterns yadda yadda ya... The pattern was too small for me so I had to do my best to make it bigger, first time ever doing that to a pattern...

Then I went to the thrift store to look for sheets and pillow cases only to find fabric...at WONDERFUL prices, I got some wonderful stuff, saw this fabric (measured when I got home just over 3 yards) for $1.99! Amazing! The dress was kind of tricky seeing as how there is a 13inch difference between my waist and hips (I have HUGE hips) SO anyways on to the dress!

Sideish View

Oh and I need to buy bigger (wider) ribbon (it isn't sewn on, I made a little thing coming out from each side to hold it on).

Comments, criticism are much appreciated!
Thanks for looking!

12  I want to draft patterns too! in Clothing: Discussion and Questions by missgurle17 on: April 06, 2005 10:49:27 PM
Yeah, so I want to learn! I know nothing about pattern drafting, I do know how to sew and read patterns (and actually understand why it works and all that). SO I am asking you crafty ladies who know how to draft patterns, how did you learn? What books did you use? If you even used any.

Would I be crazy to try and make something (first attempt would be a simple A-line strapless dress) without reading a book first? I got this amazing fabric (just over 3 yards for 2bucks at a thrift store!!!!!!!!) And I can never find the right pattern for what I want, it is simple, but I need it in my size (which isn't near a small) and all that, however if you know a good pattern, please recommend it.

OK so this is the fabric

Brown with white poka dots

And a cheezy stetch I made for the dress I want

13  Stars, stipes and...well you get the idea... in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by missgurle17 on: April 01, 2005 02:10:19 PM
So I had this shirt laying around...I had to do something with it! Plus it was a tad too small... The blue and red are both from other t-shirts (my kid sister gave me, so needles to say, they were small). After adding the stipes (to both front and back) I had to take it in at the sides, which gave it somewhat more of my 'girly' shape... this is a horrible picture...but it's the best I came up with.

It reminds me of baseball...maybe I'll wear it to a local game or something.
Close up of the stars

And this stitching is on the top and bottom...

14  Baseball tee and a Cute top in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by missgurle17 on: March 28, 2005 11:31:53 PM
So I made this baseball top awhile ago, and I got some wear out of it but of course I had to mess it up somehow...I got a little stain on it...
Yeah right there... So my question to you is...what would look good to 'cover' it up? It's kind of in a weird spot so I'm not so sure what would go good there...

I also made this last summer. I wore it to our senior lunch fun times...

Yes I used patterns for both of them...I could look them up if anyone cares to know...

Thanks for looking!

15  Ox-ford workshirt + Sewing Machine = This in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by missgurle17 on: March 28, 2005 11:23:18 PM
So I took one of my moms old ox-ford workshirts and turned it into this...

And this...

Back view...

I haven't finished the edges of the 'cover up' top, because I am not 100%sure on how I should do it...if I want to add color or keep it all white...it didn't take me long to make this, maybe an hour tops?

Thanks for looking!

16  Old t-shirt recon in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by missgurle17 on: March 21, 2005 12:27:38 PM
I got this shirt from a club, erm fashion club, I was a co president it was cool, we got free stuff, lol. And I even went to FIDM (we won it) 3 days of fashion for free...Anyways the shirt was to small for me, it was a girls m/l, and I am bigger than that, even too short. So I took it a part and made this, I really like it, it isn't real clean though, none of my recons are. And it fits well in the width but the length is way short still (even though I lowered it to make it longer). But it's really cute, for some reason I feel like the seams should be called princess seams...odd eh? Anyways on to it...

Thank you for looking Cheesy

17  Short Jacket in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by missgurle17 on: March 21, 2005 12:22:20 PM
Or would it be a shrug? I don't know anyways, Joann's was having the 99cent patterns a few weeks back, I bought as much as I could, ended up hating them all (thats the way it always works for me) except this one, Simplicity 4779.

The fabric isn't very 'spring-ey" but it is super soft. I've been a huge sucker for dark colors in the last couple of months, no idea as to a reason. It was super easy to make, the hardest part was hemming it (which I've always hated). Well on the the erm...sweater?

And for more of a side view...

I love it, it's my favorite item of clothing that I've ever made. When I wore it my mom asked me who shrunk my sweater...haha...it was actually a joke though...

Thanks for looking Cheesy

18  Simple, yet I love it. in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by missgurle17 on: February 24, 2005 11:49:24 PM
Hello, I believe I have posted a purse here before but I am not sure. Anyways I love making purses I always do because well you don't have to worry about how a purse will look on, haha.

I went into this with the idea to make a tampon bag, that idea failed (this would be a great pad bag though, but would be of no use for me). It came out a bit big but I love it. It's the first thing I've ever really put a zipper in, I am very happy with it, it looks so very professional...ok on to the pics...

19  first stencil...love hurts in Stenciling: Completed Projects by missgurle17 on: November 19, 2004 11:12:46 AM
I've been dying to stencil for the last 2 or so weeks but havnt been able to get all teh riht stuff...so yesterday I got it and I made this! (I didnt make the stencil, I found it here http://photobucket.com/albums/v189/_stencils_/ tons of great stencils, check it out) I used acryilic paint with textile medium.

anyways on with the pics...

I used poster board to cut out the stencils and I just taped it, the lesson I learned being a first time stenciler was to NOT tape it down so much (it as hard to get the stencil off) and to take the stencil off sooner...some of the paper stuck to the shirt! (I'm hoping itll come off when I wash it)

Well I hope you joyed!

20  halloween costume, halter, jean skirt-pic heavy in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by missgurle17 on: November 15, 2004 01:13:18 PM
ok so i know its late but i was never able to get pics of my halloween costume... i made a blue fairy skirt out of an old blue formal i bought at a thirft store last year for 8 bucks but never got to wear... so i reconstructed it into this:

sorry about the jeans under but i just put it on and stole my brothers cam

and it laying flat

i added the tule (it wasnt from the old dress) and it basically just closes with some velcrow (sp?) at the top waistband... i wore a black skirt under it and wore the same black top... and of course i had some wings! (got them from the 99cents store! woo)

ok next thing... a halter i reconstucted out of 2 t shirts, an old navy one (the light blue) and a tshirt store one (the darker) pretty simple, kinda small for me though...

and last a skirt i reconstructed out of 2 old pairs of jeans, it isnt my size, i didnt plan to make it my size (i so cant pull off a mini, even though they do rock) but i had a slight problem...

do u see the seam done the front left side (its on the right) yeah sucks, i need something to cover it up and i havnt figured out what to do... i dont want it to be too much with the pleats and everything u know? oh and theres a seem down the middle of the back that i have to fix (take in just a tad) cuz it came out a little funny with the pleats... but i do still rather like it! ohhh and it goes at a slight angle (this i love) anyways any ideas to help would rock...

hope u enjoyed!
